Im quite surprised by the high score for this set. I can see that is looks better and is more detailed then the corvette, but a $10 pricehike, and it loses the diff (which others have already managed to integrate) to me sounds like a nett loss. I might see how close i can get to building this from parts.

I agree 100% BUT, it isnt brand loyalty for me, i dislike the fact that while CADA is very clearly selling a Ferrari, it isnt properly licensed, so while they did a proper deal with the designer, Ferrari still get screwed out of their legitimate take out of this. Second, i dont like supporting china, there is soooo much stuff wrong with that country and their dealings with the rest of the world, id rather not send my euros over there if i dont have to. That said, CADAs Ferrari and McLaren put lego to shame, and that is against the proper 1:8 hypercars, this 1:10 set isnt even in the same ballpark

Yeah, which i totally get, and honestly i wouldnt mind a huracan or Aventador or whatever (id love a Miura though), so its not that i dont like modern lambos, i just dont like the sian :P I guess the headlights are a bit too much for me. -

Yeah, the building experience is what draws me into the Sian, but i dont like the headlights much, and the colour issues just kill my enthusiasm. If it had been a different lambo i might have been able to look past that, but the sian just isnt a dream lambo for me. I guess ill take a break for a bit, focussing too much on these reviews always bums me out a bit. As for the military stuff, i collect Cobi, and from what i can tell they havent ripped off any designs, i have seen cobi rip-offs on the regular chinese sites though (although i refuse to buy those) -

True, im not very into cranes and other construction/transport related stuff, i was actually moderately interested in the Osprey, but we all know how that went... The Ducati is an excellent set imho, the rubber band is my only gripe, and i swapped that out for gears as well, i really do not understand why lego didnt design it that way, but ah well. Otherwise it is an amazing set, completely blows away all my other motorcyles As for the Sian, i am slightly tempted, because i enjoyed the GT3RS and Chiron a lot, and seeing them on display makes me happy every time i see them, but im not a huuuge fan of the Sian in terms of looks, and honestly, i dont feel like rolling the dice on the colour-differences. Some people report very minor problems, and then there are posts of recent purchases with quite a lot of variance, and a €380 set shouldnt be a gamble imho.. Ive gotten sucked into collecting historical tanks from other brick companies (all legit and european by the way), so there is that, but technic, and lego is fading from my interest. Every set i find interesting on first glance seems to have some glaring design problem (like this McLaren missing a diff) which i find very hard to accept, and to some extent The GT3RS and Chiron have let the genie out of the box, and where i enjoyed 42000 and 42039 at the time, they (and their offspring, 42077, 42096, 42110, 42125 to name a few) all fall short. -

I did buy 42096 (at a discount, i think i paid €110), and while i did enjoy that quite a lot, i followed it up with the Chiron and the GT3RS, and with those two sets built, the RSR looks a whole lot less impressive in retrospect, im not sure i could build the Ferrari now and be satisfied, especially given the large amount of mods it needs to looks well and be sturdy, never mind the amount of functions. If lego wants to charge a premium for these 1:10 cars, they really to step up their game and make them "light" versions of the 1:8 hypercars, so at least a proper gearbox (can be a 4-spd with a stick seq shifter for simplicity) and some proper suspension/ride height. The defender hit that mark pretty well, the RSR and 488.... not so much -

They did it before in 42022, but that set cost a lot less. Honestly, given the quality issues with recent sets, both in terms of part quality (Sian) and just poor design choices (this, the rubber band drive on the ducati, the mysteriously unreliable defender drivetrain to name a few), im getting fed up with lego, especially given the ever rising price. I dont even know what i would want to buy from this wave, the only thing remotely enticing is the Ferrari, because im a Ferrari fan, but even there €180 for a 42077 reshell seems a bit too much like a rip off. Dark ages 2.0 i guess -

One wheel drive, what a joke on a 55 euro set The corvette was an interesting start, but both this and the jeep come with a serious pricr increase yet drop features -
@mostlytechnic I think it is a decent set for kids as well, i know it carries the 18+ label, but any somewhat lego savy kid of about 12 should have no issues with this, and i know i wouldve been pretty happy with this set at that age. But yeah, that 18+ label really makes this an odd one, not good enough to appeal to the technic die-hards and just a tad flawed for the tifosi/petrolheads

Walking the line between brilliant and insane, love it! While using the grinding disc i think it wobbled quite a lot though, i'd be more worried about the axle bending slightly and then going completely rogue rather then the disc shattering. (loved that you welded the fork back together by the way!)

Im incredibly torn on this set On the one hand, when i owned the enzo and 599 sets in the past, this is what i dreamt of, basically the same size car but with working suspension and more detail, and while they arent the top-end Ferraris, the rear engined V8 two seaters are the essence of Ferrari to me. Im also a big fan of GT/Le mans racing, and the #51 AF-Corse car is special to me in that regard. On the other hand, €180 for a set with this little features and issues like the lack of structural stiffness feels like a slap in the face. If lego can push out a set with the functions, details and partcount of the defender (ive got other issues with that set, but that is not relevant) for the same price, it kind of boggles the mind that we get a 42077 (which was feature light already) reshell and €80 extra on top. And one last minor gripe, from what i can tell the ferrari logo stickers arent clear-backed, meaning you cant make a proper streetcar out of it, even the Pista version has those logos on red/black parts. Obviously putting a full white stripe down the car's length isnt a huuuge issue, but clear back stickers should be the norm for stuff like logos on cars. I will probably end up buying it when i find it with a decent discount at a weak moment, but it is going to take a LOT of modding to make this look proper on the shelf, and that is before considering adding extra features.

Second half? Over here in europe, the first few years were start of march, and we've had two cars later up in the year, which coincided with product launches related to those sets (the 720s and the white porsche for forza)- 755 replies

Good point, buying lime green from bricklink is going to be a crapshoot in a post Sian world. All this stuff really annoyes me, id love to have a third car next to the GT3RS and Chiron, and the Lime green would complement the orange and blue very well, but these issues are entirely unacceptable given the price point, and them selling it as a high end, enthusiast show piece, and the (legitimate) alternatives are colours that dont match as well with the other two.

Oh it will be in there, i meant if they show up on lego's website. That way i can build it from parts if i cant find one for sale. -

I like that a lot! and im happy to see technic polybags, polybags are always a lot of bang/buck in my eyes, considering you get a well thought out fun little build for peanuts. Ill see if i can build this from my spares when the instructions show up, im just not sure if i have the small rear rotor. -
From what i understand corona threw a spanner in the works and they faced the choice of either not having sufficient amounts of lime green bricks (and thus having a super rare lambo), or lowering the colour consistency regulations to put the set out there. That said, lime green was an issue long before, just not as bad, and other colours have been inconsistent too (white for instance) I do like the look of that helicopter polybag by the way, i might see if i can build it out of spares, and will pick one up if i ever come across one.

excellent review as usual Sariel On the set though.. i dont mind the looks of the front, but the thing is an absolute disgrace for a technic set, it costs €55 over here, and it hardly has any actual technical functions, winches are a thing even on City sets, so we get steering and poorly working pendular suspension.... not every a hint of a driveline. Compare that to 42037 for instance, which cost the same over here.... (or the ducati for instance... that actually shows all the technical features a motorbike should have, and includes a gearbox for crying out loud)

yeah, probably just trying to play it of as a cute "we'll have to see what magic the elves come up with" BS. Even if the guy in charge of the twitter account doesnt have that info, that account represents the company, not the one guy with a degree in twitterology- 755 replies

Technic 2021 Set Discussion
Vectormatic replied to LvdH's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Not to mention that there is a limit to the medium of technic elements, the Chiron had noticable flex in its chassis with just its own weight to support, same goes for 42082 for instance. -
I doubt that body rigidity is a factor, lego cars never get any stifness out of the a-pillars or roof, It is always this big multilayer tunnel/floorplan which adds structure to the model. IF anything, proper B-pillars connected to the roof will actually add stiffnes, and make for a much shorter "floating" length of roof to the A-pilars.

Agreed 100%, these car bring nothing new to the party, but honestly, these cars are the succesors to 42000, 42039 and 42077, and none of those brought anything new to the table either, 42000s pushrod suspension was cool, but it wasnt a halo car, and neither are these. The new stuff is in the GT3RS, Chiron and Sian line, although even there, there isnt much revolutionary happening. At some point all car features have been done, and going further means so many bespoke parts that you end up with those RC model kits rather then lego with generic and multifunctional blocks.

I dont really see a kid with no experience starting with a set like this, that is what the sub $50 sets are for (stuff like the McLaren, the hovercraft, the Corvette etc..). Ill agree that this set should be a bit easier to build then the Sian, but either with the wavecatch, or a GT3RS double clutch gearbox should be totally doable without overstepping the complexity-niche a €180 set sits in. As for display model creds, i think the big sets like the GT3RS, Sian and Chiron are much better for that, those are true showpieces, while the 911 RSR had just a bit too many imperfections to make for a good display, and i suspect this ferrari will as well.
