I just like trains A LOT! I had wooden railways and I had a lot of LEGO and I decided I wanted a lego train when I was around 5. And now, 9 years later my collection is: 2X 7898 And 7897. And now I have a PF train kit. (Battery box, receiver, motor and remote control) but I'm tryin to expand my collection with a TRAXX diesel MOC.

so something like this? experiment... by RIZING!, on Flickr or experiment... by RIZING!, on Flickr this? -
Hi guys, I have been trying to make some trains (generally diesel) and a problem that I have always found is powering. for a steam locomotive this is usually pretty simple because of the lack of articulation but wel, bogies are articulated and motors are mounted in the build itself. my question was, how does gearing react to this? and what is the handiest for compact solutions? vertical or horizontal? with vertical you get this: lego 6L train bogie by alterlegotechnic, on Flickr how could something like this be used in a locomotive? would the motor stick loosely in the chassis and what about a vertical motor like this (http://www.brickshel...16/cam06194.jpg) will there happen something in corners? like that the would go faster or some? and with Horizontal you get this Iowa Pacific SLRG 515/518 Mechanics by wildchicken_13, on Flickr how can gearing do this? i mean the rotating bogie, what happens to the gears in it? obviously could 2 M motors be needed for a small train (around 4 cars) or will it fail? I heard something about a V2 receiver? I have a V1 (I think) and that a normal one won't be able to give enough power to both? What is better? XL or M? when will a XL be needed? so in one sentence: vertical or horizontal? what happens to gearing and what is easier when using normal motors?

I never had problems with this? I just make shure there is enough weight to keep everything on the rails.

re-release the EN? nah. it was expensive and didn't look right. the wheels where undersized and the boiler was oversized. if they would re-release it the boiler would need to be way smaller. the round front piece was to big and the attachment of the smoke deflecters was well, terrible! a new emerald night would need to be extremely modified imo. i can see it being a great set when you have 5 coaches and power functions but there are improvements possible. impossible. its way to big for lego scale and the 4 axle bogies would be eliminated due to the short baseplates and the problem with 4 axles on one bogie (3 is possible with one brick spaced apart, 4 wheels need to be straight next to each other. and i doubt LEGO will use things like sliding axles.

Cool! Definitely a lot of decorations!

I like it already! why do you actually want all the PF stuff in the locomotive itself? if its a class 4 the receiver and battery box could be easily hidden in the tender and the M motor in the locomotive itself. and if you need a a smaller tender you could hide the receiver in the cab! this obviously makes cab interior impossible but sometimes... the cables of the components are pretty long so you don't need to worry about that!

I believe zephyr1934 sells custom rods.

For images just google the name of the brick. That's how I do it.

I know someone told me about this system. He used a 9V motor with modified PF cables, a reciever and a PF remote. That also makes it possible to control 9V trains independetly.

a GE EMD could be cool! But I Don't see 5-10 cars happening unless you want to pay like twice the price of the maersk or some. although I don't see a Daylight happening. Those things are massive and rescaling it to 6 wide and even making it affordable seems to be pretty much impossible. unless LEGO won't design coaches for it but that would be pretty strange. unless you will get something like the horizon where you 'need' to buy two.

Is the 4561 a good set to start on LEGO Trains?
THERIZE replied to ilikeboomerang1's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Of you want 9V it's a good starter set. Not really something that will fit in city themes but it is cool. I don't use 9V and prefer the new system way more so I would not buy it myself. -
