That's a fine Islander creation with some good details. I wonder if he's burying the treasure or unearthing it - it seems like a strange place for it either way. Overall this is a good scene that fits the theme well.

Ok - so I just watched "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" for, like, the first time ever, man. Now I know where the idea comes from. Umbrellas, anyone?

[MOC] Bluecoat Fort - Inspired by Eldorado Fortress
Captain Dee replied to Pimbo's topic in Pirate MOCs
Aha! You posted it... I agree that it is pretty basic, but it's still a nice fort and the height of the build really makes it look imposing. The first pic in particular really shows this well. Even though the interior may not be highly detailed, it still has some good features and plenty of usable play space. The dining room and governor's office are nice. Overall it looks like a fun project, and the ship in some of the pics gives it a good seaside feel. Good work. -
[Frozen Beyond, Cat C] AppleCalypse Now!
Captain Dee replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Guilds of Historica
Total coincidence, I promise - just like the timing of this post. Yesterday I just happened to randomly check this topic after your last message and today I'd just left a reply elsewhere when I saw you'd just posted a reply here so I had to check it out. Funny how it worked out!- 25 replies

This is a well-textured base and the irregular shape is nice. The story is interesting too, but I'm a bit confused by the "lefts" and "rights" of their directions... Besides that, good work.

[Frozen Beyond, Cat C] AppleCalypse Now!
Captain Dee replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Guilds of Historica
*GULP* Sir yes sir I'll get right on it sir! This is a very nice colorful lively scene - especially after seeing so much ice and snow! It seems they've all banded together to "terminate with extreme prejudice." I don't know how dragon-breath smells, but "I love the smell of napalm in the morning." Excellent tie-in, and very good job integrating so many humorous parts into one build. The dragons are cute and the rainbow spell is cool, but the apple-launchers are my favorite part. Whew. Close call. Did I pass or fail?- 25 replies

REVIEW: 71011 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 15
Captain Dee replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Hmm, that would be cool. But it might take a while for Lego to release 14 CMF knights unless they did a whole series of them, which ain't happenin'. Still, one good matching knight would certainly be nice. -
No carronades. I view this as a pre-1750 vessel. Yeah, that gun count is ambitious to say the least. Probably not realistic for a ship of that time...
-
A little patience... Better to take the necessary time than to rush into it, eh? Maxim, I'm impressed with the variety of your minifigs. There's plenty of options to pick from. And the modified LotR ship looks much better than the official set, but maybe I'm just prejudiced ;) Q: What flies a red flag and sports a 62-gun broadside?

I like this concept and have thought about it previously. Building a full town or city in bricks is an enormous and expensive task. Designing it in LDD is still quite a job but not costly. It's a trade-off of having the actual thing with limitations vs having whatever you want in digital form. But it seems to be difficult to do entire towns as a single digital creation due to computing requirements, and I've always assumed it would have to be done as seperate sections like this. Anyway, this is a really nice arrangement. There's a bit too much open space though. More details or closer positioning of the buildings would help to close it in somewhat. I really like the port area. Cool find and sorry I can't help :(

I'm rather unimpressed by the new "cutlass". It looks like an oversize steak knife or some kind of mechanical cutterbar. Unusual weapons might please the kids but I'm not seeing how these will fit the Pirates theme in anything less than a cartoonish capacity.

This is an excellent creation. The angular approach is nice and the sloping canal looks great with its repaired walls and sluice gate. The crops look neat and tidy and to my eyes the tree is a natural fit for that arid environment. I'm particularily impressed with the fact that someone was brave enough to build an arrow-straight trunk and show what real trees often look like! This is a nice composition and I should've posted this comment months ago. Good work.

[Frozen Beyond, Cat B] Ice Worm in the Sand
Captain Dee replied to Gideon's topic in Guilds of Historica
That's a very creative design, and the presentation is absolutely perfect. White against tan really stands out well and the shaping of the base is great, especially where it's coming out of the ground. On a side note, if you removed the mouth and straightened the body it would make a really cool column... Good work as always :)- 27 replies

Latest CMF series impact on Historic themes
Captain Dee replied to SirBlake's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I usually don't like big variations in color for armored historic figures, but while I'm not crazy about the red and green, I don't think it looks terrible. I can live with it. I think people dislike that combination in general (not just in the context of this conversation) only because of Christmas, which really strikes me as odd. The colors were complimentary long before there was a holiday that associated with them. Red and green don't mean "Christmas" and I think it's funny that people shy away from them. Again, I would prefer either red or green, but I think it works. I don't think that combo was an accident or an oversight - the designers know better than that. I'm willing to at least give this figure a try as-is. -
I took a look at your Brickshelf folder... there's some good stuff in there. If you haven't done it in the past you should post that fort here on EB - it looks great. And Auqazone is one of the few themes besides Town, Castle and of course Pirates that I actually like!

This looks like a fun creation although I'm not a fan of undead/skeleton armies. The tower/wall is really nice and there's plenty action going on. The placing of the water is really good but it would be better with some small waves. Neat find.

Haha! I don't often laugh at Lego creations but this made me think of Calvin & Hobbes ("The Attack of the Deranged Killer Monster Mutant Snow Goons" or something). The monster would seem menacing if it hadn't tickled my funny bone. The smooth snow is nice and I like your use of ice to break up the solid white. I really like the tree; it has that barren winter look. The king is really taking chances facing them so closely, eh? But then he has the whole collection of rabbit's feet... Good work.

As play features go this is nifty, and I like it better than motorized versions I've seen before. The ships look nice too, especially the last pic. Keep it up.

This is one of the most incredible Lego creations I've ever seen - and I don't really like LotR/Hobbit. It is simply magnificient in every way, and the brilliant photography puts the presentation in a league of it's own. I feel like I could step right into the scenes. Excellent work!

I for one am not a theme-mixer and I sure hope any 2016-and-beyond Pirates sets aren't steampunk'd. (Ninjago Pirates is a story of its own that I find equally unappealing.) Metalbeard's Sea Cow might be beloved by many, but considering the price and piece count I see it as a wasted opportunity to create a truly magnificient historic sailing ship. Revisiting the old concepts can be good if done well and it can be bad if it's too redundant - but many of the classic Pirates sets/concepts haven't been remade in any way, so there's plenty room for it. I just don't know how well it would sell considering the current push towards action-crossovers.

Ugh. Don't remind us... Maybe if Knexo Nites are successful Lego will do "Nexo Everything." They're obviously not hesitant to throw largely unrelated themes in a blender and market whatever comes out. The key is marketing. If they call it "Pirates of the Nexo" with a main character called "Cap'n Jack Nexo" maybe it will be well received :)

Those are pretty cool - especially the second. They have a nice moody feel and look like the ship is emerging through mist. Chance shots can sure be interesting.

REVIEW: 71011 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 15
Captain Dee replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm surprised and pleased to see the Queen's skirt piece attach to the torso with the same tall studs used on the standard legs. That's a huge improvement even if it still allows no articulation. She's just beautiful. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 15 poll
Captain Dee replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
This looks to be a pretty good series overall. If I can only pick one it's the Queen, easy. -
That's a pretty good intro - and full scene pics are always nice. The burning thief is brilliant. Dumb crook, as usual. When your would-be victim has glowing eyes, a spiky crown and carries a staff with a bright colored top, forget it - you're toast. I like the lighting in the photos for one simple reason - the broken shadows give it a very realistic forest look with such a big contrast from light to dark. I know many people prefer more even lighting regardless of the scene, but I feel like I could step right into this. The second-to-last pic looking straight up the stream is especially good at showing this. Good way to start out. Keep it up.
