[SR - CH 1 - Cat B] Captain Rodsh found land
Captain Dee replied to Bart's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This is a classic scene - beach, palm trees, digging up a buried/sunken chest. The edges are a little rough but the terrain and plants are nice. I like the basic waves but think they'd look better coming straight in to the beach (turned 90 degrees) or at an angle, although angling that particular style would be difficult. Nice job overall. -
[SR-FB4] Cantu's Fort in Rassilon
Captain Dee replied to MKJoshA's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very good fort. The rocks on the shore are beautiful and the walls and tower look great. The interior is pretty good too although a few more goods would help to "clutter it up" without necessarily being dirty or messy. I like the fact that the gunpowder is stored by itself; however the cannons would look better on wheels and there's no room behind them for recoil and loading! Perhaps you intend that upper level to be a cutaway for photographic purposes. I also think stone fort walls from the era of gunpowder should be much thicker but I understand parts limitations. Overall this is a fine build and so... I approve. -
Very nice build. I like those massive walls and the big archway; the blue windows are lovely as well. It looks really nice considering that grey is the dominant color, but blue always stands out when used with it. The table and book stand are beautiful but... it looks like someone ripped all the pages from the book and fled; it must have had some sensitive or incriminating contents! You've done well with the different minifigs and their poses and the elevated floor gives it a serious courtroom-type mood. Good work and of course... I approve.

[ESL - Ch1 Cat B] Ruins in the jungle
Captain Dee replied to Tezclatipoca's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Those are some huge flowers. The jungle looks pretty good and I like the ruins. That flag is unique and interesting - I don't envy the man tasked with carrying it. The wave technique is nice but they would look better if they were wider. This is a good take on the challenge and has plenty of story-telling potential. Keep it up.- 12 replies

Neat idea with the buried wreck, and very good job with actually burying it so smoothly with all those bricks. I never would've thought of Vikings, but this being a fictional world... Clever story as well, but I wouldn't be quite as trusting of strangers speaking another language! After taking the gift of gold, they might lure you into the woods and then... But it's your story to tell of course. Interesting concept.

[COR-FB 3]The Emporium's Delivery Service
Captain Dee replied to CelesAurivern's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
The wagon design is pretty good but loaded that high I fear it will tip whenever they cross the first anthill. A ten-year-old seems rather young to be operating it though! I suppose both he and the horse are very well trained. I would think the doubloon would be the best currency since that's the game currency.- 14 replies

[ESL - FB] Grist Mill in Nova Terreli
Captain Dee replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That's a pretty good windmill, and I like these domestic settings a lot. The structure looks great, especially the roundhouse. The top roof would look better with some texture - a few scattered tiles and/or plates would help - and the blades might benefit from a little dressing up although it would make them bulkier. The fact that it turns is nice, and the standard staircase piece looks surprisingly good - it just needs an addition, maybe turned 90 degrees to slide along the lower building intead of sticking out that much more. I've been inside a few historic mills and even witnessed one operating but they were all water-powered, so these windmills alway get my attention. Good work overall. -
Look what I just got - Report your latest Pirate LEGO acquisitions
Captain Dee replied to V()()D()()'s topic in LEGO Pirates
Well... I just couldn't help myself. Now that the sets are about to be retired (premature, right? It hasn't even been a year!) I've made a couple trips to TRU and cleaned the shelves @ 20% off. I think I got... let's see... 9 more Shipwreck Defenses, 3 more Outposts and 1 more Fort to go with my big pile of parts from last spring. I would've gotten another Brick Bounty or two if they'd had any more, but that's all they had. I'm guessing they're done on B&P - I hope I'm wrong but I just don't see them coming back when the service starts back since the new stuff is out. I wanted to order a bunch of the powdered wig pieces but it may never happen. Good thing I got several last year. -
[COR - FB] McPherson`s Swords and Bullets
Captain Dee replied to Tomsche's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I like the use of the faction colors in this swordsmith's shed, and having him cast musket shot as well should be enough to keep him busy. I like the arched front but I think it would look better if the top of the arch was below the roofline. The yellow is a classic color but it would look better with some texture if you could manage. The interior details are nice and the cobblestone is great; perhaps a random plant or two would add a little more life to the scene. Good job fading the color of the smoke. Is the crab hungry for bacon? -
The Empire of Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion
Captain Dee replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Well, Phred, if you want my goods you'll need to capture a ship or try the black market or something... ...because the Dee family doesn't sell outside Corrington! Nothing against friendly, peaceful trade, but some things just aren't sold directly into opposing hands. Do you like broccoli? Spinach? Brussel sprouts? I'll sell you all you want!!- 897 replies

The Empire of Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion
Captain Dee replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I don't have a specific enterprise in mind for the guild - that would be too limiting. I would apply it to what I call "heavy industry" for the time - shipbuilding, iron-working, etc. There are lots of options and I don't want to restrict what other people can build. I hope to illustrate this fully when I get my character intro up. EDIT: I'm mostly interested in the use of the Dragon Knight torsos; the shields aren't a big concern to me but I will use a few of them for decorative purposes. You can see one of the torsos in question on the lower left minifig in my sign-up on the previous page.- 897 replies

The Empire of Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion

I like the idea, Gideon, and thanks for reminding me that I wanted to do basically the same thing with the 2013 Dragon Knights heraldry for the Dee family. -
The Empire of Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion
Captain Dee replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I failed to mention in my sign-up post (previous page) that I want to claim the heraldry of the 2013 Dragon Knights as the Dee family crest and also as the symbol of the craftsman's guild operated by the family - as long as no one objects. (I just saw Gideon's post of the same type and it reminded me that I'd forgot to include that bit.) Of course I'm open to anyone using those torsos in particular for members of the aforementioned guild. I wanted a unique look and since I have enough of those minifigs (deep into triple digits!) to equip a sizeable shipyard (or something) I thought a guild with uniforms would be a good way to use them. Thoughts?- 897 replies

Excellent mine my friend. The rockwork is pretty basic but I really like all the details you've included. It looks like a little bit of everything is going on and the chutes, ladders, platforms ans hoists are all nice. Good work.
-
Fantastic tower. I've long wondered if such a wall technique was being used (never tried it myself but I had visualized the concept) and now I have my answer. The snowscape and tree look great as usual and the elk is a nice design. Good work.

The Empire of Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion
Captain Dee replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks for the kind welcome, Bregir. Yeah, it was always going to be Corrington for me - the last time I checked my blood was red, not blue or green or black. Too bad it took me so long to join up but I finally overcame my big aggravating technical hurdle and I'm ready to go. We seem pretty well represented by now, and ought to be a match for those insufferable Oleanders. Is it just me, or is trash talk the official language of all those *other* factions? Hehe, here I am engaging in trash talk by NOT engaging in trash talk... surely a sign of our superior advanced forward scientific magnificent progressive society. I tip my tricorn hat to you, my fellow Corries, and bow in obeisance to our lovely Queen Anetta!- 897 replies

Hello Eurobricks!! This is my first post in the Historic Themes. I don't often build in the Castle themes, but I enjoy viewing other creations and occasionally I put something together. I'm drawn to unusual subject matter and considering the general lack of respect shown toward the 2013 Castle sets, I thought I'd build a depiction of the contents of the royal treasury - not the structure, mind you, just the contents. I think it makes for an interesting composition - now the king needs to take his wealth and build a suitable castle! There are about 4100 pieces and it's all centered on 4 48x48 baseplates. Taking the photos was challenging because most of the chests (approx. 250 of them, all full of treasure!) are loose and I had to be really gentle moving it around. I took a bunch of pics but decided to show just 2 - an overview shot and a detailed view with the saturation of color greatly reduced via Photoshop to produce a cool effect. This was built in early 2014 and besides the 2013 Castle minifigs (the King, princes and princesses) it includes the Admiral's daughter from set 10210 as the Queen and 2 copies of the CMF William Shakespeare as the royal accountants. Enjoy!! - Sir Dee Edit: Could a Moderator please remove the apostrophe in the word "Contents" in the title? Stupid mistake, my apologies, posting while tired.

The Empire of Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion
Captain Dee replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
It is my pleasure to introduce Sir Jay Dee of Corrington, shown here dressed three different ways! Sir Dee represents the fourth generation of a family business enterprise specializing in the manufacture of various items important to the Corrington empire. (One of those items is sitting in the foreground...) I replaced the original photo; I believe this one is much better! This is intended as my sign-up and not the full character intro. The main build was posted in the Pirates MOC forum for a different purpose and can be currently seen there. Edit: replaced photo- 897 replies

Oops... sorry Phred, I stand corrected on the post location. Missing a whole day of new material due to attending two funerals has that effect. Back to the house: gorgeous interior details, Vincent! I love that colorscheme and the scale is impressive. Very well done.
-
Vincent, that's a beautiful mansion, and it was posted as a flickr find by Mr. Townsend on Oct. 22 last year. Now that you've came along I hope you'll deeplink lots of good pics for us - because this is a superb creation. Welcome to Eurobricks and happy building! EDIT: Sir Phred... this IS the MOC forum!

I think the official name is very fitting, because this is a very nice vessel. The colors are perfect and the shape is just beautiful. Those custom guns and the big hatch are nice. I also like the fact that you went to the trouble to build a full pier - it greatly enhances the story and gives everything a good sense of scale. The building may be a little small but I guess you didn't want it distracting from the sloop. Good work. Edit: Approved!

[COR - Ch1 Cat A] A morning swim
Captain Dee replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Unique and interesting take on the challenge - I've been wondering how long it would be before someone used the native minifigs. The canoe looks great and the rest of the scene is nice as well. I really like that rolling water technique and the girl standing on the front is a neat (and slightly precarious) idea. Good work. -
Phred, I'll return the 2x favor and say this is a fine topsail... something! No, really, I think cutter is very appropriate. The design is really good and incorporates the faction colors well. I like those sails - I've never liked plain white paper, but a tan or really light brown such as this looks great. She's just a very attractive and well-detailed vessel. But I have to ask - is she still afloat, or did you hole her below the waterline before committing your act of blue-blooded treason?
-
You have some good characters and the story thus far is interesting. I think in purely practical terms it would be difficult to store 30 days worth of supplies on a vessel that size, so I vote B (15 days).

[COR-FB] The Peregrine (Small Cog)
Captain Dee replied to CelesAurivern's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I like the whimsical feel of this - and it makes a good caricature, to borrow from prior comments. It reminds me a lot of the illustrations from a children's book about the early explorers. And it looks like a fun play piece, but maybe that's just the little boy in me... The photography doesn't do it much justice though. The flash reflection is messy but I see it's already been addressed. Good start and I look forward to what you build next.- 13 replies
