  1. This is a brilliant layout but calling it "large" is an understatement. More like "huge!" The fleet looks great even if some of the ships are official sets; the big one in the first pic is especially beautiful in those colors. That's the baddest sea monster I've ever seen in Lego. The islander section is perfect - very moody and "dark." Overall this is excellent. I didn't know you were into Pirates. Any chance you'll hang around or are you leaving port? I'd love to see more creations be they yours or collabs. Good work. Keep it up! P.S. Whenever I hear "sweetness" I think of Cap'n Jack Sparrow and Angelica. YAARRR!!
  2. This is a neat concept. Rivendell is indeed beautiful - the design and colors are among the best official sets and your scene looks great with the curving stairs. The White Council is nice too. Keep it up.
  3. Wait... this happened while sorting? Noooo... You're the only one *wink wink* to ever fall victim to that trap... Seriously, this is really good. The edited background really concentrates the focus and the overall composition is sharp, colorful and well-posed. Using several different types of minifigs is unusual but it looks great. Good work.
  4. The Black Pearl? For 31 bucks?! That's highway robber- uh, well, that's piracy for you, matey! Seriously, that is impressive. I'm not a fan of the model but I love the black hull, and you've hit the jackpot on this one. Well, maybe more like dug up the buried treasure, but, you know... Good find.
  5. Knowing your interests in Lego I'm not surprised to see a hybrid creation like this, and I think it turned out pretty good. I'm seeing more of the Oriental boat than the big SES but it's an interesting design and colorscheme nonetheless and adds a little fresh variety to the theme. I'm also happy to see things being indexed again! Your English is really good too. (My exposure to Russian is limited to Polina Gagarina, Aida Nikolaychuk and their lovely "Kolibelnaya" even though I don't understand a word they're saying!) Your enthusiasm for Pirates is great. Good work.
  6. I strongly doubt it - but I could be wrong. The big IFS was quite a bit larger than the preceding sets, and when something of high demand commands a price of 5 times the original value to the point that people are willing to BL the thing by parts, a market obviously exists. I just suspect it's a lot smaller market than something like Star Wars.
  7. "BoBS" it shall be then. It definitely rolls off the tongue easily. My hesitation stems from the fact that the one Bob from my childhood was just... weird. But it's not a big deal really. BoBS will work just fine.
  8. This is a lovely creation. It has lots of classic components and the two-sided design offers great play features. The rocks are well-sculpted and the cove in the back is beautiful. The weathered cabin is fine and overall this looks like a lot of fun. Good work!
  9. Obviously this poll is preliminary and therefore doesn't mean much - which is why I said I'm curious as to how it works out once it actually gets started. I expect the Pirates will be noticeably different than the others in terms of what they build, and I had noticed the greater enthusiasm expressed by some of the others. The big question is how Oleon will compare to the rest since the bluecoats are currently in production. Time will tell... but if Corrington falls behind I'll have to do something even if I'm not highly active - if Phred lets me off mop-up duty...
  10. I think the newer style midsection is better but both will work if you connect them well. The reddish brown of the Brick Bounty might be easier to come by at the moment if you don't have them in dark brown already, but I do think the dark brown looks better. I'm impressed that people are Bricklinking this set, but the market is just insane right now so I understand why. I got mine off ebay but I can't say I love it - it just looks too small to my eyes. But it's still a pretty good ship. Good luck!
  11. Love that scene in Phred's post. Seems the excitement is at an all-time high. Still not sure whether I can commit to it though. Curious as to the official abbreviation/acronymn. "BoBS" and "BOBS" seem too relaxed; we had "PotC" and "LotR" so "BotBS" seems fitting. Or maybe just "BBS" for short. Just noticed AG has 1000+ topics and wonder if this will have a subforum as well or if it will be included in the standard Pirates forum. Should boost interest in the theme either way. Also wondering what happened to my sentence structure...
  12. With 116 members voting this poll is a bit lopsided. It's surprising to me to see Eslandola and Corrington combine for the same number of votes as the Pirates/Sea Rats. It will be interesting to see how it works out numerically whenever this starts up, but there's no question that the wrong side of the law is quite popular at the moment.
  13. The whole setting is nice and the building really stands out in red. I usually don't use plain red for buildings because it often looks odd, but mixed with dark red, black, and gold it looks pretty good. The overall design is nice too. The change from warm to cold is very good, especially where the water is freezing over. The ice just looks so natural. The garden is neat too and has your colorful touch. This is fine entry. Good work.
  14. Wow, nice work! The presentation is perfect and the plane itself is excellent. Too bad its not available as a set. Looks like an adventure awaits. Keep soaring!
  15. Fun build, fun build. Very clever "Binx." Johnny is like, 'What the...?" Solid tan looks nice for that setting. Keep it up.
  16. I have one more addition (well, ok, technically I have lots more, but...) I wish TLG would seriously improve the masts and rigging on the ships. The lower masts from the Brick Bounty are clunkers if you ask me. They may be reasonably stable but they look horrible. And the newer-style shrouds are just awful. They should taper toward the top as the ropes get closer, not stay the same width all the way up. The old style had some taper and was better, and I wish they'd bring it back, but they should take it farther by offering a seperate wider bottom piece that would clip onto the bottom of the main shroud piece - it would allow more accurate variations in shroud height/length without requiring a huge new piece. Yeah, I know you can clip the one type of ladder on at the top, but it just looks weird. Change those things and the ships would definitely be better. ^ The above list has some great set ideas too.
  17. Oh no... That Queen and Tribal Woman are going to do horrible things to my wallet... I might get a few others - oh, shoot, I know I will - but those two are the highlights for me. The queen's dress is really good and the baby alone is great, but I like both figures in their entirety. The farmer will be useful for his hat and pig, otherwise he's so-so. Astronaut is cool; winged warrior is irresistible in gold even though I have no use for the minifigure; ballerina is neat; janitor's mop is great, and so on. Pretty good series if not excellent. I'll happily trade my satyrs for your queens any day. Deal?
  18. The posability of the new style horses is perfect for these things and the background looks good. It has a really good sense of motion overall. Nice work.
  19. Shiver me timbers! That is one incredible haul you've got there. It's a good trip down memory lane, poring over the catalog photos for hours at a time. Just think how much better we'd all be if our parents had bought us all that when it was new... an "investment" of sorts. Have fun building and make some kind of incredible layout or something.
  20. Funny! The dungeon looks, well, about as nice as a dungeon can look. I especially like the door and tiled floor. And those shears/cutters look wicked, besides making good use of those big swords. Nice work.
  21. Excellent. Towers like this always remind me of Sabre Island, even though this one is inland. The design is nice and simple and looks quite good in grey. The landscape definitely has the tropical feel with those lovely trees and parrots, and that fabulous blue sky background adds to the effect. Big-wheeled cannons are kinda rare in this theme and they're a welcome addition. And most importantly - new bluecoats wearing tricornes! Sure, the shakos are nice, but they always remind me of the 19th century. Tricornes seem much more appropriate for the age of piracy or the 18th century either way. Again, I really like the design and mood of this. I feel like I could just step right into the scene, and that to me is the best sign of a job well done. Excellent.
  22. Say it ain't so, Cap'n! And here I've been wanting to build something for the whole group of you, him included. Will his post be vacant or will someone else be stepping up? I followed the link to his profile and saw he was last active in early September. By saying you hope he will "eventually return" do you mean we won't be seeing him in these waters at all? All the best, KB, wherever those sails take you.
  23. If NK gets added to the poll I might have to change my answer to the third question... On a more serious note, I voted in favor of the Dragon Knights only because the Black Knights are grouped with them, which seems downright silly to me. The Black Knights were easily my favorite as a child, and the Dragon Masters were easily my least favorite when they came out. But a few more offerings bumped the DM up from the bottom, even though I still dislike them.
  24. Hmm... looks like it would be fun for anyone with lots of play time. It's definitely complex based on what I saw while perusing their forum. Perhaps BoBS will look similar - maybe a little less complicated though. Interesting find.
  25. The first version looks more realistic but the second definitely fits the minifigs better. I'm guessing the uneven distance between pockets is just to keep it 8 studs long? I think an even distance between all the pockets would look best, even though the total length would be an odd number of studs.
