That's a pretty neat ship, especially considering the scale. Black and gold/bronze look good together. I like the way you depicted the furled sails and the anchor is a bonus for something this size. The staircases at the stern provide a good sense of scale. Keep it up.

Puvel, there's a chart (somewhere, game economics thread I think) that shows how the DBs are calculated based on approvals. Good question about the end of the month - it will make things a little more complicated to award whatever has been earned up to that point and the rest later, but if it could be helpful to someone it might work out that way. Perhaps Ska could weigh in on the matter. Incidentally I have volunteered to tally these approvals/DBs so you may be hearing more from me as this progresses!

Beautiful carrack, Mike! The black widow colors of Corrington are slowly growing on me, and this example is fantastic. The white of the fore- and aftcastles really makes it stand out in a way that red and black alone cannot. It's such a smooth design overall, and though the hull doesn't quite give me the full carrack impression the basic design definitely does. The all-black sails and rigging look a lot better than I would've guessed. She's a fine vessel with an imaginative name and the business deal sounds interesting. Good work.

[OL - FB3] Little Hermes trade ship
Captain Dee replied to blackdeathgr's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That's a nice sloop but I agree with the thought that a jib and possibly a taller mast would look better. It's also a very generous offer. I've never really liked the look of the palisade bricks on ships just because it gives the planking a vertical, rather than horizontal, appearance. But it's a solid design overall. I approve. -

We Corries don't need space to breathe. We quite enjoy seeing Blues duke it out with other nations. Right, Bregir?- 55 replies

Duel: Hugo d'Offren VS Elysabeth of Drondil
Captain Dee replied to TitusV's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
If 'tis an untimely death thou seekest, methinks thou hast divined a method of unfailing certainty. Sorry, I've been wanting to say that... DUEL!! About the ship issue... Bregir is right about numbers. A single rated vessel isn't capable of doing all that much by itself, they're expensive to build and maintain, etc etc. Frigates often saw much more action. It's really nothing to get overly excited about. I never liked arms races anyway - I much prefer foot races personally.- 55 replies

CelesAurivern - not to worry my friend, this ship has nothing to do with gameplay and I assure you it will never be licensed. I'm building it for a very special purpose and I think everyone, from every faction, will appreciate that purpose when I post it. But no more hints... :)- 897 replies

Bregir - you might want to re-read my little hint. I believe it includes the word "broadside!" Ayrlego - Welcome aboard! Corrington really took off after a slow start. That intro is great and both builds are really nice. The interior is one of the best-equipped yet. Glad to have you with us.- 897 replies

Technically speaking any agricultural enterprise involving the sale of goods would qualify as Commerce - but obviously most of them would fall into the Plantation category. If you only built the ranch I would call it a Plantation (it serves as a generic term since neither Farm nor Ranch are options); however I like your idea of doing both the ranch and the office for the reason Ska mentioned. I think there's room for lots of creativity with this whole process - for example, does an iron foundry qualify strictly as Artisan or Factory? It would seem to fit the description of both (craftsmen for the former, producing something from raw materials for the latter), so the builder would have the option of going either way.- 897 replies

Corn/maize is difficult in Lego but this is pretty good. I like the variety of the plants - it has a very uneven appearance, just like all the old non-hybrid types. I'm not entirely sold on yellow though - both the tassel and ear shuck tend to be a tan or light brown as the plants mature and dry down before harvest. But it's still a good scene and the minifigs are nice. One question: are they going to eat it or bottle it?

Correction: first rate PREFAB ship-of-the line. It's a big compromise for sure and length-to-width is way off even when widened to 20 studs. Should we be having these conversations or is it cluttering up the thread?- 897 replies

Bregir, ever since my dalliance with GoH I realized you liked all things shipping but I didn't know you were into it that much. Now that I'm faithfully back home where I belong I thought I'd build something unique. I had almost gotten bored with shipbuilding (how or why I don't know) and while sorting the parts to a couple Brick Bountys I had a crazy idea: to build the best ship I could using only the parts or type of parts that came in the 2015 Pirates sets. After some experimentation I settled on a SOTL which measures approximately 115 studs at the waterline or 133+/- prow-to-stern. I was serious about using available pieces which includes masts and shrouds - both of which are ugly, but that's the challenge I gave myself. I did break down and use a few hinge bricks that didn't come in the sets, and a couple other odd pieces, but it's pretty true to the idea. As for firepower, I dropped a hint in the "Once upon a time" thread. That's all I'm willing to say right now...- 897 replies

The Algus Saga - Celebrate Good Times, Come On!
Captain Dee replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Guilds of Historica
You got the new Queen! Excuse my excitement. We won't be seeing them here in the US for a bit longer it seems. This is another fine addition to your story. I like the structure a lot, especially all the arches and slit windows on the facade. And of course you've added a few whimsical touches to keep it humorous. But no trivia of any type? *Whew* I can breathe easy. The king/duke and queen minifigs look great together and the colonel peering through the door is a neat touch. Keep it up.- 18 replies

The vessel I've been working on is both a ship and a SHIP (just the hull alone - let alone the bowsprit and other rigging!) It started as another staff gift but then along came this Bob character and complicated matters...- 897 replies

Whew... the trashtalk is serious when it overflows one faction thread into another! You Greenies are vicious towards each other. We Corries could sit back with a flaggon of rum and bet on who throws the next punch, and urge you all on when it calms back down. Allow me to wade in by saying the word "cool" is not even in the vocabulary of a proper Corry. We have more important matters to discuss. The lady above will have the most impressive set of guns yet. I really do need to get busy finishing up mine...- 897 replies

Good review as always. Those old rafts just look better than the new ones. Those short shrouds are perfect for shipbuilding; too bad they don't still make them. Keep it up. Edit: Isn't the correct set name Raft Raiders, rather than Riders? But Riders is probably more accurate - I don't think you'd do much raiding from something that size!

Examiner LEGO Pirate article with cool box artwork...
Captain Dee replied to TalonCard's topic in LEGO Pirates
The article is pretty good and there are some good pics - but those ads were annoying. I'd like to see an article about the catalog dioramas; those were always beautiful. (Yes, I've seen the pics here on EB...) It's hard to believe the Armada sets are 20 years old already. -
Bregir - the "narrow" prefab hull parts are 12 studs wide; the "wide" ones are 16. This is an old-style hull; they're easy to spot by the opening for the anchor chain in the bow (where he's mounted the small guns). The old sterns are unique parts while the newer ships use the same parts for bow and stern, with an upper and lower piece. I like the new parts better for the bow and usually prefer the lines of the old stern. Good job on that technical explanation. That type of thing will surely improve the shipbuilding here in BoBS. Oh, and I agree that it looks like a cog if you remove that jib.

Cloth is nice but for experimentation I prefer paper just because it's cheap and easy. If you're building something for permanent display then cloth would definitely look better. Good luck!

Ah... that colorscheme is a veritable feast for my eyes... Good start, but I'm also not really seeing a true sloop (perhaps that is really just used as an example here?) It reminds me of the 15th or 16th century with that rigging and towering aftcastle, which is fitting for an exploration story. The stern is a bit boxy though, and those massive gunports look a little crude with so many exposed studs. But it's still a pretty decent vessel with a good crew and serious firepower. I assume they just moved the swivels from the forecastle to the stern for a nice farewell pic, eh? Godspeed Cap'n Wolf!

Nice intro. You have a good-looking crew of characters. I really like the last pic with the different attire, but Elizabeth seems to be the focal point as Micah is almost hiding in plain sight the way his pants and shirt sleeve are blended into the surroundings. Sounds like adventure awaits.

That's an eye-catching arrangement. The lake water looks great and the plants fill out the scene well. Purple seems an odd choice for a border but in this case it provides a really nice colorful contrast. The native is unique and the redcoat in the wig happens to be one of my favorite combos. Interesting story to go with it. Good work.

That's a neat little gift. It looks great in those colors. But you're more generous with your tan palisade bricks than me!

Whats the deal with the 2015 pirates line?
Captain Dee replied to Captain Pirate Man's topic in LEGO Pirates
I don't have many thoughts, but I'm surprised to see the sets nearing the end of their life when they've only been available for, what, all of 9 months or so? Things come and go so fast anymore. I have no idea how they sold overall, but at Christmas the shelves in my area just about got cleared (and no, I wasn't the one doing the clearing!) I just thought they would've been available in stores for at least a year but that doesn't seem to be the case... although TRU has been putting out a few at a time marked 20% off. I can't make full sense of it all beyond the arrival of the new stuff. -
