Sea Rats: Sign-up and Discussion
Captain Dee replied to Darkdragon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Welcome to BoBS, Kappy! (from a Corry...) Another Sea Rat will help improve the disparity between factions. -
Absolute masterpiece!! This is one of the finest Lego ships built yet. The scale is incredible. The hull looks really good and the rigging is just magnificent. Excellent work all the way around. This should earn you a spot on the frontpage, "Ship Expert", etc etc. Custom guns might look a little better but otherwise she's a work of art. The assortment of photos is nice without being overwhelming. I also like the water technique - I don't think I've seen that before. She's a beauty. Exquisite creation my friend.

[SR-FB2 Mar] Tropical Fruit Decision
Captain Dee replied to MKJoshA's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice little scene. The building facade is good, especially the door and eaves. The fruits for sale and the pirate drinking in the cart are good features but the tree steals the show. The trunk looks pretty massive - making it taller with a larger canopy would be nice, but of course that takes parts... Good work. -
[COR-FB3] The Velvet Room (Port Raleigh)
Captain Dee replied to CelesAurivern's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Neat little room. The furnishings are nice and the floor is a creative use of purple. The round table approach to business is good; pity most of them have to stand though. Keep it up. -
Beautiful collection of builds. The market is my favorite with the lovely tower and courtyard area. It's a very pleasing composition with good colors and architecture, and the activity within the crowd is great. The landscape in the second-from-last pic is really good too, especially the rolling sand. Good work.

Variations of Fortifications around BoBS
Captain Dee replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
These battlefield defenses look great. You should build four of these and put them on display. All four factions look good, and Captain Cookie's band gang crew looks like they're having fun. But anyone who can sleep through that must have been imbibing beforehand... -
[SR-MCRA Results Mar] Captain's Cabin
Captain Dee replied to MKJoshA's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That's one spacious cabin, and the scale is nice. But I figured it might be a little more cluttered overall, and maybe have more windows. I like the table and globe, which I didn't even know existed. This type of arrangement works pretty good for storytelling. Keep it up. -
[Esl - MTF] An Unusual Instrument
Captain Dee replied to Umbra-Manis's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Creative take on the mini-challenge. I suppose the sounds produced by that "instrument" would be somewhat predictable and somewhat unpredictable. The build looks great overall, from the base to the cart to the posing. But I'm afraid it wouldn't quite match my taste in music...- 9 replies

[ESL - FB:1] A Purchase From a Veteran
Captain Dee replied to halixon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Neat interior and yes, good job with the candles. I like the furniture and the fireplace is a unique design. It took me a little to get used to seeing map tiles recessed into the table but it looks so much better that way. The storeroom in back looks nice and the back corner with the mushrooms and moss is a neat feature. Some tiles would polish things off nicely; otherwise good work. -
No, these are not just your "strange thoughts." I've had similar thoughts as well.

It seems I misinterpreted the nature of the question. Because the vessel was purchased and already licensed, there's no reason the dockyard couldn't be licensed as well. It's an entirely different build and obviously functions independently of the vessel.

Attention freebuilders - the approval period for 3+ freebuilds has been shortened from 3 weeks to 2 weeks to get dbs in your hands sooner (because few if any approvals were being granted that far out). This means earnings from builds posted as late as the 17th of this month will be awarded at the end of the month. Other changes are being discussed as a part of the accounting solution so stay tuned. The rules topics will be updated eventually to reflect the changes.

[ESL-FB5] Fields of Gold
Captain Dee replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I failed to mention (here and elsewhere) that the approval period has been shortened from 3 weeks to 2 weeks, to place dbs in the hands of players sooner (due to the fact that virtually no approvals were being granted that far out). If this was posted a day sooner you would've earned the dbs at the end of this month...- 17 replies

Oh, I love it! It's such a pleasing sight to behold. You've done well in building up the working area to allow good placement of the vessel. All the loose timbers and other materials clutter up the scene nicely and the painter's scaffold and supplies looks great. It's a more accessible scale than what I attempted. I like the back wall, but what does it represent? Also, a little detail to the stone surface (cobblestone or something) would look nice but then who am I to talk... It looks pretty good with exposed studs anyway. And I'm liking that crew - it's a great use for those minifigs and similar to what I wanted to do had I not built in the scale I chose. I'm getting an "early exploration" vibe from the high stern and single mast of the vessel. She looks pretty good, although a bit angular overall for my taste. The damaged section is very well represented and overall she fits the setting well. But whoever you bought it from might want to do a more thorough job checking for hidden stashes of gold next time! About the license, (second question) I'm not aware of any conversation about getting two licenses from one MOC. I've wondered this myself, and it seems the question mostly involves ships that first appear in some scene, like what you've posted here. The easy way around the issue is to post the vessel by itself as a freebuild in completed form - as shown it's still a WIP of sorts, and unlikely to earn a license that way. Good work and keep it up.

Aaand a fitting end to the voyage. Looks good once more. The port buildings are rather colorful and the different water depths are nice. Good work.

4Profit, Part Two - Pirate Attack! [ESL, MRCA]
Captain Dee replied to Kai NRG's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Wow, great action scene! It turned out really well in micro form. All those different ship designs are nice. This is a great way of showing what happened. Good work. -
[COR-MRCA] Good business on the pier of Nova Terreli
Captain Dee replied to Brickwolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Indeed, this really illustrates the outcome well. Despite being so simple, the outstretched arms and hands full of coins are enough to tell the story without words. It's that obvious. Of course the other men on the pier help to fill out the scene, and the man fishing is a useful feature. I like this concept a lot. Oh, and fleshies and yellows don't mix well to my eyes either, but it really doesn't bother me. It's your build! -
4Profit, Part One - Leaving Terelli [ESL, MRCA]
Captain Dee replied to Phadeout's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very good micro build. Those billowing sails are great and the different ship designs are nice. I like the various buildings and the water looks pretty good too. Keep it up. -
[SR Mar FB 2] – Meeting the locals
Captain Dee replied to Gulagurag's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Neat little scene. As I read I was like, "Uh oh... This is getting real..." But I see it didn't quite come to that. Whew. Anyway, good work with those poses, especially in showing the leader's "retirement." The campfire and tents look pretty good in that setting. Keep it up. -
Glassworks and Stone Quarry, Port Raleigh
Captain Dee replied to Fuzzy MacFuzz's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Neat build. I really like the glassblower's facility - that's a nice design and the stack of glass panes is a good feature. I just hope they're careful! I also really like the use of the Loot Island base for the quarry - the shape is great for that use and the overhead structure with the crane looks pretty good too. The layering of the beach is nice and the water looks fantastic. Good work and it's good to see Port Raleigh advancing.- 16 replies

Hmm. Getting a bit advanced, are we? Did they even know what aqua regia was in those days? Warm, pearl, and chrome? Frog legs? Save some for me! Neat build with a lot of good details and an interesting story to match. Uncle's mysterious "appearance" is cool. I really like the spiral staircase and floor. As for electricity, they should just go fly a kite.

[Cor - FB3 March] On hot Coals.
Captain Dee replied to BrickOn's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Neat concept and build - and those coals look pretty convincing. The jungle surroundings are really nice. The sun monument and that hut look great. The headgear is appropriately over-the-top for the tribe. Getting a few reds involved is a cool idea too. Basis in reality or not, it hurts to think about what they're doing... and the health risks involved... Good work. Approved by Corrington leadership. -
[SR Mar FB1] – Coming out the other side
Captain Dee replied to Gulagurag's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This is one of those scenes that really needs no explanation, other than to say she's still alive. Good continuation of the prior story. The beach looks good, and for a first attempt the edge of the jungle looks pretty good. The vine probably wouldn't naturally create an arch - if you could show it climbing even a small tree it would look better. Keep it up. -
[SR Feb MRCA] - Will of the gods
Captain Dee replied to Gulagurag's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Wow... that is one big wave. Good job with the micro build, and as for the rest of the water on that one, you could add some more plates in blue, white and trans-clear to show a heaving surface. Tilting the ship a little would also make it seem more vulnerable per the story. The second one is neat too. I'm assuming you used the same base - good idea if that's the case, and switching to full scale is a good way to show the outcome. The water looks better overall than the first, and a few more of those same parts would really look great. Good work. Too bad it ended that way.
