Lovely house. It brings back fond memories of "Near Seclusion" in the Outer Banks. The angular position on the base is nice and being built on stilts provides a very good view of the beach. Those plants fit the scene well too. The interior is really nice, although the lighting makes it look a bit drab. And as for those "blues", well, what did they expect to come marching in with such demands... Good work.

ESL - CF - B: A King's Gift (colonial schooner)
Captain Dee replied to kabel's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Beautiful schooner! Those lines are fantastic and the black on white hull goes really well with the yellow and blue. The rigging looks nice; perhaps the upper masts look short due to the thickness of the lower parts, which almost look too big on the narrow hull. But overall she's a beauty, and the story is an interesting twist on The Situation. Good work. -
Magnificent ship. I've never seen a hull built that way and it turned out well, even if the lines are mostly straight. And it's deceptively large as well. The rigging looks great, especially the sectioned masts, and all the other fine details add up to a really good design. Excellent work.

[ESL - OLFC - A] A gift from MAESTRO in Breshaun
Captain Dee replied to Maxim I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very nice bustling little scene. All those minifigs make a good crowd and that roof is pretty neat - I don't think I've seen that technique before. And the chest o' gold is a welcome feature that should appear a lot more often in this Age of Sail Pirates. -

This is an interesting story, and the build is really nice. The variety of vegetation looks perfect. Too bad for the poor souls who partake... Good idea and good work.- 15 replies

[ESL] Class 5T Prince Fernando
Captain Dee replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This is a fine way to differentiate sisterships. The figurehead is noted and the sails look nice. I suppose most people will tell you they look better (more realistic perhaps) but I always liked the red sails of the HoE. Here's to better luck in the monthy trade action. -
I'm in love!! This is just beautiful, and all the more impressive for it's heavy use of classic techniques. The shape of the house is perfect and the colors are gorgeous; the dark red roof is perfect with the white and yellow of the walls. It looks bigger than it really is, especially in the first pic, which is testament to the well-proportioned design. The landscape looks really good too despite being fairly simple, and the road and fountain are both lovely. The cast of player characters is neat. And Guy's uncle shouting at the statue means he's in top form - or maybe practicing up on it. Excellent work, and proof that a mansion can be done in the classic scale and still be beautiful. It's my favorite of your land-based builds.

[SR-FB3] The first settlers of Moray's Den
Captain Dee replied to Jacob Nion's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This is a nice landing scene, even if the description sounds a bit ominous. The beach, the water, the vegetation - all of them look great. But attempting to carry a pig through the churning surf sounds rather interesting, entertaining even (for any bystanders...) Overall this is a good way to show the settlers getting started.- 17 replies

[ESL - FB1] The Nova Terreli River Port
Captain Dee replied to Elostirion's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This is a fabulous port scene. Besides being very colorful it is richly detailed - a feast for the eyes. All the different features go together really well and the assortment of small boats make it look very busy. The collection of minifigs is great, and the poses are perfect; my only issue is the double-sided heads look bad with tricornes (which is why I hate those heads...) There are lots of good port scenes here on EB and this ranks among my favorites. Good work.- 19 replies

[OL-FB1] "Empty Barrel" Rum runner
Captain Dee replied to Col. Brik's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Hmmm... and here I can't see the pics on my phone... bummer. Usually not a problem. -
Beautiful villa. The design is perfect for the setting and the scale is believable as well. The red roof looks great with those white walls and the landscape is nice. I actually like the lighting - perhaps it doesn't suit the professional mind, but the build brings to mind a warm sunny environment and not the cloudy overcast look of indirect light. Good work.

Nice plantation. The terrain and cane plants look great and the water flowing through it is a useful feature. The ox tilling the ground atop the highest terrace is nice as well. It's good to see a plantation that fits the island's description.

The base and overall terrain look great, and the tree design is good apart from the trunk color. As for the obvious size discrepancy, perhaps we should assume they'd just finished cutting down the bigger trees and this is what's left. It's a nice depiction of land being cleared, either for lumber or firewood or just to make room for something else.

[COR - FB1] Design Sketches
Captain Dee replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Beautiful contract build. The vessel and station look nice, although I agree with the thought that the angled position of the building wouldn't be very practical. Otherwise it looks great; the water in particular is wonderful and the smaller boat is fitting. Good work.- 19 replies

[OL - CH2B] The Diary of Derelin Magini
Captain Dee replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This was an excellent challenge entry. The layout is superb and looks very realistic. Besides just being big, it's very nicely detailed and the minifig action from both sides is very life-like. The fort and palisade are fitting for the situation; too bad the effort was wasted. Good work.- 22 replies

Word! You mean they said "word" back then? The two prior installments are pretty good too, especially that fine looking crew of officers and soldiers.

The artisan vs factory classification is a bit of a grey area. I tend to view smaller shipyards as being more artisanal, but that's a matter of perspective. Shipyards don't usually bring to mind the typical image of a factory, but they are definitely a place of manufacturing, and usually included numerous facilities that contributed to the final product. The old VOC shipyard in Amsterdam is a great period example and included large carpenter shops and blacksmith shops between the slipways and the main warehouse, with twin ropewalks stretching into the distance on the side. On this basis a complete shipyard could easily be designated a factory for game purposes, or the various components could be classed individually as stated above.

I'd say a shipyard is much more artisan than commerce. But a building within the yard dedicated to finances could be commerce if anyone is inclined to build one. As for the prison - yes, technically it's a residence, but the licensing options are fairly limited in that regard. It's one example that isn't covered very well in the existing categories.

Garmadon, that micro-scale rowboat-ship is incredible. It's without question the best ship I've ever seen built on a rowboat hull. The lantern looks out of place though; it would be gigantic at that scale. Any chance of some detail pics?- 780 replies

Voting Thread - Eslandola vs. Mardier Build-off
Captain Dee replied to Kai NRG's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This was a good build-off. Both sides were represented well - and both featuring LDD was good for balance. I think the Mardierians' builds are more cohesive overall, and the stories slightly better as well. Jacob's features the best textures, no question, and also has a really good pirate-y look about it with the tower and custom cannon. Kai's seems better at portraying the essence of the contest, makes better use of the whole MOC in the story, and has some really good features as well - and earns my vote for best overall. The others are pretty good too. Windusky's prison is nice, Umbra's pineapple demon is great, KB's courtroom scene is really good and Bregir's facade and crowd are neat. Overall this was a good effort... ...but I'm also wondering what long-term consequences might result! -

This is another fine digital design. I also think it's my favorite of yours so far. The dark colors are part of the appeal, and it has nice proportions overall. Many of the classic galleon characteristics are present and it looks like a good old design. Keep it up.- 13 replies

Funny story - and a good way to depict the undesirable outcome. I've never seen South Park, but that phrase had me laughing over the referrence anyway. The comic-like approach works well for this. Good work; maybe the next run will be more to your liking.

[ESL MRCA] Whatever happened to the Fénix?

Lovely interior and funny story! I've been trying to talk in italics all day, but then I tripped over the dreaded "s" word. The crowded tabletop looks inviting except for one thing: do they always dine with cutlasses so readily at hand? Anyway, it's a lively little scene. Keep it up. -

Whoa... wait up!! Uhhh... let's see now... where did I put my list? For #9 I suggest "Pininfarina" and for #4 I suggest, umm, "Aventadore." No, make that "Zonda." HA!! Just kidding. I'm cool with "Alicentia" and whatever gets the most for the other. (Actually I'm not terribly concerned which is why I didn't speak up sooner.)- 897 replies
