[COR - FB1] Selling the best steeds
Captain Dee replied to SilentWolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This is a unique and memorable design. It does have a classic look, but I kinda like the white stripes even if they don't quite demonstrate the intended technique fully. The facade is nice and the interior turned out well.- 8 replies

Hmmm... I have exactly 100 unique minifigs posted so... doing this in my head... 0.15 db each would be.... 1500 dbs, correct? Yee-ha!! Wait, that can't be right... ok, my calculator says it comes out to 3.1415926 dbs... well there goes my get-rich-quick scheme. Bummer. So when do we start paying to feed them? Will that be v3.0, or sometime later on?

Korean as default language for Eurobricks
Captain Dee replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in Forum Information and Help
Shiver me timbers! Wait... how do you say "Arrrrr!" in Korean? Edit: Judging by the newest topic, some smart@$$ took it literally... -
Clever little build. It actually doesn't look like a bad place provided the weather is nice. At least he'll be well-fed and has a few birds to keep him company. And the on/off/on April Fool's joke is pretty good. Keep it up. Approved by leadership.

Neat build. The angular position is nice and I really like the roof. Good job showing the different minifig activities too. But I wonder what that guy is thinking as he drops his coin? Adventure and excitement I suppose? Good work. -

Welcome To Our New Pirates Regulator: Skaforhire
Captain Dee replied to Capn Frank's topic in LEGO Pirates
It's sad to see Captain Braunsfeld go... ... but Ska seems to be a very able replacement! Congrats on the new post! I didn't realize Stash2Sixx was on the staff - I assume he got Kolonialbeamter's vacant spot, but it wasn't announced, right? This means it's time for me to do "another"... -
[ESL FB3] Path of the Single Cut
Captain Dee replied to Phadeout's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Sure, it's different from usual Pirates material - but it shows good effort and looks great. That roof technique and the little courtyards are lovely and I like all the different vegetation. The tan arches look nice too. My only criticism is that the front and back portions don't come together very smoothly but other than that this is a fine build. Good work. Approved by Leadership -
[OL - FB2] The 'Commerce de Breshaun'
Captain Dee replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Beautiful, beautiful. This is my favorite of your BoBS ships so far. The hull shaping is nice and I really like those colors. The emphasis on rigging made a huge difference - she's instantly more impressive just from that one thing alone. So you built the first barque, and you're the first to use studdin' sails/stunsails. The stern decor is nice too. Overall she's a magnificent vessel. Good work and keep it up. -

Brothers, correct? (He's a good man for the job, that Phreditor-in-Chief! ) Somehow I remember reading some of your comments (catheads or something ) on one of his old WIP topics from waaay back (and waaay before my time as an EB member) and I remembered the avatar; I can't help it since I drive the real thing almost 365 days of the year. I couldn't remember seeing any input from you since I started lurking 2.5 years ago, so it's great to see you back! And also great to see another Oleon member. Edit: Deleted duplicate post. How did that happen?? -
[OL - FB1] Prospecting on ÃŽle de Zeus
Captain Dee replied to Gideon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice little prospecting scene. I like the dark green in particular. That's a great selection of minifigs and accessories - but what is the man in the hole holding? Is it a shovel turned sideways or something else? Anyway, this is a nice way of showing some early developments. -
Ah. Thanks. It makes a great turtle. And as usual, I've found another disadvantage to being such a narrow-minded buyer/builder (it's Pirates or nothing... well, most of the time... ) Love your building style.

Duke, is that you?! Please correct me if I'm wrong, but you haven't been very active around the Pirates forum for some time, aye? You wouldn't happen to be related to a prominent member/staffer/all around good-guy (and Oleander) would you? Welcome to BoBS! (from a Corry). Your sigfig looks great - that new bicorne is a perfect match for that torso, even if you stole the uniform from a Redcoat. I like your intro story as well. It's good to see you here, and I look forward to seeing your contributions. Oh, and nice avatar too. -
Excellent entry! To start, the rockwork is pretty basic, but I'm far from an expert on that. It works well enough, and makes a very convincing cliff upon which to build. The vegetation is just about perfect, the beach and water look nice and the turtle is brilliant. (What piece is the shell?) The defenses are also excellent. The sloped walls look great and the gun carriages are really good. The shot-heating furnace is a good feature, but perhaps vulnerable to enemy fire positioned so close to the cliff. Your minifig selection is good, the varying photo angles are nice and the story well-written. Including Bregir's characters adds quite a bit to the story as well. Excellent work.

Excellent ship Maxim! She's a beauty! That colorscheme is lovely - particularly all the dark red and gold. The hull looks good - a bit tall perhaps but otherwise very nicely shaped (although she almost appears too short in length - perhaps a function of height more than anything). The cabin is fabulous and manages to look well balanced despite being so large. I like the CMF figurehead and lovely custom rigging, and she's definitely well-armed. I'm not too fond of the anchor - the concept is nice but the shape doesn't quite do it for me. The accessible parts are nice. Overall she's a magnificent ship. Be careful what you wish for... Excellent work. Keep it up.

Look what I just got - Report your latest Pirate LEGO acquisitions
Captain Dee replied to V()()D()()'s topic in LEGO Pirates
Agreed on both counts. The new-style feather/flame pieces are okay, but the variety of the old ones was a lot better IMO. But I couldn't possibly leave the pack alone... good thing you bought it and not me, to preserve some collectable value... -
[SR-CH2B] Victory Is Short Lived
Captain Dee replied to dr_spock's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Neat build. Showing several factions is a good idea, and you certainly kept the carnage realistic. That big expanse of water is really impressive. The tower has a nice classic look, which is to say that it's fairly basic but gets the job done. I just don't quite understand why they're fighting over such a small land mass... The base is from Loot Island, right? Good work. -
[OL - FB2] Royal Merchant Shipping
Captain Dee replied to Capn Frank's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
What I meant was beyond the BoBS ratings how would they be classified. Obviously they're rather small, but they make some pretty good illusion-scale square-rigged caravels anyway. (I'm not totally familiar with that particular rigging but it's the first thing that came to mind.) -

Captain Dee replied to Capn Frank's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Fantastic work Phred! The classic white/blue colorscheme is lovely and you have really done a good job building on those small hulls. The level of detail is really good - the tiller, decking, smoothly tiled railings, built-up stern, semi-custom rigging, etc look great. They're like more realistic versions of the old Armada Flagship, and of course good-looking twins is better than one by herself! In purely realistic terms what would these be? Caravels of some type? Excellent work and may the winds forever be in your favor. -
A neat entry indeed. The overall layout is nice and I like the landscaping even if it is a bit sparse. The shot-heating oven is excellent and the heated shot looks great (Nexo parts?). The gabion baskets are the first in BoBS, right? Interestingly, the first pic on Wikipedia shows two cannons surrounded by baskets in a 1600s setting, so your entry fits the challenge setting perfectly. Good work.

[OL - FB1] The 'Royal Shipyards' in Breshaun
Captain Dee replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very nice. I like the idea of building a shipyard in sections - there are so many facilities that a full layout would be gigantic and difficult to design/build and photograph/render. This is a great entrance - I like the architecture and you've detailed everything nicely. The vessel under construction is a good feature and that interior is lovely. Good work and keep it up.- 24 replies

[ESL-CH2A] The Gun(s) of Ferro Azure
Captain Dee replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Excellent design. The earthworks look wonderful and would be so much more effective than a palisade alone. The landscaping is nice too, particularly the tree stumps along the edge of the defenses. This is one of the more realistic arrangements in my eyes. Good work.- 23 replies
