  1. This is going to sound like a sensitive comment.... but I assure you, it is not meant to discourage or hurt. But I do think it needs to be mentioned. Even the greats have provided information that instructions don't provide much bucks. Sariel is one of most popular builders out there.... not to mentioned he often does reviews, etc. for TLG and probably has more insight into the Lego community than most out there, and even he has said numerous times he doesn't make much money off instructions. You bring up Lucio..... another great builder..... but I see the conversation going in the direction of perhaps placing the cart before the horse. The builder you speak of, that potentially could bring in some dough for instructions have already established themselves and their builds. They have proven that they can build something that is high demand. Perhaps the thing to do is first create something that is widely popular, with some form of fan base, and then inquire to those fans about any interest in instructions and what people would be willing to pay. Not the other way around.........asking for interest or information from others before creating something that has the potential interest. Again, not meant to be overly critical. My apologies if you have created something of such interest.... if so then tie it to this post. If not.... then perhaps start from the build and then go from there.....
  2. Funny. That's exactly how I took @braker23's comments towards YOU......lol...Anyways, lets not let that distract from this great little build. I love the compact size, looks and performance. Job well done!
  3. Clicked the "follow" button...... excited to see what is coming....
  4. If my memory can't serve, or if I don't want to do the work to find it, then perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned it. --- I did not remember the context, etc.... only the tid-bit that I shared. I didn't mean it as a negative. I didn't have a problem with it.... and I don't think there was anyone that did. I was just pointing out the distinction. 'Complain' probably was the wrong word. I completely agree with you. Designer, plan builder...etc. all should earn something. I have bought plans from several builders out there and have been very happy to do so.
  5. This question has been asked on numerous occasions. The answer is always a resounding "making MOC plans will not make you much money." Lego building, even MOCing and making plans, is still very much a hobby. I don't see that changing in the foreseeable future. You have to consider one thing, that the original product, Lego itself, is already very pricy. Actually for many people, in and of itself, it is intolerably pricy. And if one were to produce a model that is so super cool that people are willing to dole out dough for instructions, I mean the amount that would be of sustenance, think of what would happen to BL prices for the pieces. Not saying that Sheepo's mustang is that kind of model, but..... one could argue that it is nearly "that kind of model" - because look at the prices of a simple #3 connector in red. Yes.... it is limited but limited quantities standing alone doesn't mean much. When his mustang came out prices escalated incredibly quickly. I have heard Blakbird say it before and I agree with him, that Sheepo's mustang almost single-handedly is responsible for the ridiculous prices on this piece. You build a model that is in such high demand that people are willing to pay high prices for instructions then the pieces will follow. AFOLs only have so much money........ they can't pay for it all. There still is very much a concern about Lego prices. Check out the thread for the Porsche. One will argue that the lack of technics lead to it being deemed only slightly better than an average set by members on this site..... but reading the thread one will quickly realize .... the price was the main reason. Last thing I will mention... and I have said this before. I can't remember the thread or when (and not going to research it), but it was relatively recent... was someone had mentioned as a defense to a stance on some issue, or even complained, that Blackbird charges for instructions/renders. Number one, he does not.... I think there is an icon on his Technopedia page for donations. Very, very different things. In addition, there is a very large difference between charging money for instructions to make money versus charging simply to recoup some of the costs associated with building the models in the first place. To reiterate: these are very different issues here. I would be interested to hear from Crowkillers and others (many have already chimed in) -- But my guess is they all charge because of the latter..... not the former.
  6. Problem with great projects like this is now you have a following. So no pressure..... I will also be following.... love the idea of the motorcycle rims being used here.....
  7. Although not a big fan of the stickers, gotta admit this is a great addition to this thread.....
  8. Forgive me if this has already been posted, but I don't remember seeing it. Or if the creator of the video/Porsche mod is a member here and didn't want things posted.... but I found this fairly mesmerizing.....
  9. I love this truck. I especially love the fact that the scale is a little smaller than we are accustomed to seeing. But I also agree with the comment above, is something hitting/scraping when driving forward?
  10. I agree with zux. His comment does not sound salty to me. It is a valid point. Many have large projects and just wait to post when the project is actually done. Not much utility in a post like this other than those that are personal. Which make sense and are valid, just not very community-driven.
  11. I have been doing this, or something similar, for quite some time now. I did a whole write up on this issue about a year ago to demonstrate a lesson: we hear so much complaining about the weakness of Lego PF motors, yet, I argue it is mostly the connections between pieces that cause failures in drivelines of Lego Technic models.... not because of weak motors. Not all the time .... but a lot of the time. Whole write up is here: http://www.moc-pages.../moc.php/422162 http://www.eurobrick...opic=117666&hl= This also somewhat mimics the Minds-i system I have written about many times before. I am super tempted to just buy one of the sets, and do review. They seem so much like Lego....I have contacted them though and they have not been the greatest in getting back to me.... so I am reluctant to make a purchase.
  12. THis thread is so long....hard to follow correctly... but the link you provide for the back end takes me to what looks like Efferman's mod of the backend. Sorry if I am reading it wrong. Also, as mentioned in the write-up, I did not try to re-do the whole back end. I am away from my collection and anything I build right now has to come from the 42056 set. Unless of course I make BL orders. But all I did was add a covering to a gap with the already existing pieces of the set. Just enough to cover the LED I installed. So.... comparing a one-stud fix to a whole re-do of the back end is a kinda apples and oranges IMO. I agree though, it does look much better. However, really all I see is mostly just changes to the little back fin, right under the rear spoiler.
  13. I've always enjoyed your work. I love the planning and thought that goes not only into your builds...... but even your organization. Well done. I especially love the "just do it" Nike shirt.... front and center. Some strange reason I feel like I need to now go work on something.... Just one thing... in the video you mention your desire to replace your notebook... because during video rendering it heats up to like 95 degrees celsius. Are you sure it is celsius? That is around 200 degrees fahrenheit. That is really hot. If so..... yea, I would plan getting a new one ASAP.
  14. I have since moved my collection inside..... my whole building room in fact. Child (well adult now) moving out off to school. I have not noticed any differences. Even on sets like the B wing. If you see in the pic above (or know anything about the set there is quite a bit of torque on the vertical body when on the stand because the linear weight (up and down) is now somewhat horizontal. In fact, I have heavily modified the set adding weight to the upper half and therefore to balance it a boat weight (hidden, can't be seen) at the bottom for balance. I say this because it creates more torque on the body and I was concerned that at high temps the body would bend over time. No such thing ever happened. It is perfectly fine and straight. Yes..... for those that know the set the body is several plates thick.... but still, I think it takes temps in excess of 150-160ish or even more to really warp ABS......
  15. You're welcome (smiley face) On phone...no emoticons
  16. I also question the whole heat thing. I live in Texas, and, well, perhaps we don't get as hot as AZ, we get pretty darn hot. I have since moved my building area inside, but for the longest time I kept sets in my shed. Large sets that weigh a lot and tension is an issue. Yes, it is air conditioned, but I really only turn it on when I am building. When I go on vacation, trips, etc. I don't. Temperatures I am sure get 120 degrees or hotter. I don't store packaged sets in there.... so can't speak as to packaging, etc..... but as far as the ABS, outside the package...... my sets have withstood texas summer heat just fine.
  17. Innocent enough question..... not sure it needs its own thread, but it is a common question. Sometimes personal questions like this can't be answered by others. Getting others' opinion might be helpful, but ultimately it will be you who come up with your own answer. Honestly, don't worry too much about it. In fact i honestly think it indicates a developmental stage in the hobby. When I first started back building, like in 2012 or something, I thought I would keep everything I built. But I think as you get better you get more critical as well, and you see some of your stuff as crap. So you want to rid yourself of it. Also, I think it indicates where your alliances are. None are wrong. some like to collect. Others like to build. You might be more of a builder than a collector and just realizing it. Not a bad thing
  18. This method: Pretty much the same method used by others here in this thread. I used different pieces just because I am away from my collection and have a limited amount right now. I don't think closing the gap that I did had been proposed yet. But this thread is so long; I haven't read the whole thing or followed it the whole time. I would not be surprised if someone else had proposed it. But I have not seen it.
  19. Finished my modification of adding lights to this set. Pleased with the outcome. Not a huge project.... but while I am away from my collection it was quite a bit of fun and great way to relax. More pics and full write-up at http://www.moc-pages.../moc.php/431720
  20. Sorry for bumping this topic.... I was actually browsing the index (first time ever, it is really useful!) and saw this topic. 2H of 2016 has seen some strong sets. I am sure most are not willing to add 42056 here, but was about the BWE, and if not, probably the Xerion? The reviews so far have been very positive.
  21. Mobile cranes rank among my favorite projects out there, and your build ranks among the finest. Wonderful details and functionality. Thank you for sharing.
  22. Agree with above. Vacuums, air power etc. should not be underestimated. These types of projects (i.e. vacuumed powered machines as well as air-powered) used to plaster the internet. Not so much of a big deal anymore, but others have posted similar numbers. Even much higher with air turbines built out of Lego. Not everyone can be wrong.
  23. Thanks again Jim for the wonderful review. Indeed, this set will be heavily modified. I wonder even if more so than the Unimog (who seems to be the current champ of modifications). In terms of the dully version...... I think that would be awesome. If they were able to completely keep water out, I wonder how close they could be to making a vehicle amphibeous. Like a SHERP or something. THe huge, tractor-like tires would be great for water. They are almost paddled.....
  24. not to mention I set up a bunch of hidden cameras......lol..
