  1. Hmmm... ok. I also, although don't have many chromed pieces, have not known them to chip. Funny.... everything seems to come down to trying to be cost effective yet as has already been pointed out, this appears to be priced on the higher end of things.......
  2. Sariel, do you have any knowledge of the costs associated with chromed pieces? I think the "yet" in your statement above should be emphasized. I have noticed this on the wish list of AFOLs across many genres; this exact sentiment has been expressed for years on many different forums. I assume the reluctance of TLG to make pieces in chrome has to do with the cost. Yet, given the Porsche (42056), this set, and many others it appears TLG is not timid to price sets fairly high. So why not just make more chrome pieces?
  3. +1 to this comment. Equally as fun to watch as well, IMO, has been to see the adjustment of member's comments. Initially they started somewhat harsh and perhaps overly critical, but as time progressed I think some evaluating occurred and comments turned from unhelpful to much more supportive and helpful. Kudos to @Lego2016Lego for sticking with the project and to the community for helping and their support.....
  4. lol... you are obviously new to EB. Get to know blakbird and his technicopedia.com. they are invaluable resources for amusement, jealousy, and education. I am the same. I have the mustang and also Crowkillers vampire which I have kept built. But I often take the soft axles, and other parts, for other builds. That all being said, I hate to be the party pooper, but I am not sure what this thread adds to already existing threads. We have one for people's building space and one for their displays and collections. Even these are very similar IMO. We have one dedicated to also people's pictures of builds/mocs, official or unofficial. I see the obvious, this thread is only for "unofficial" sets..... but I dunno seems a little redundant to me. Just my opinion.
  5. and good on you for that.... .this is what LEGO is all about. You kind of lose me on the whole "world is flat" analogy but at least we can agree on what is quoted I have always enjoyed your work and look forward to your future creations/improvements to stock LEGO elements.
  6. Perhaps you misunderstood the reason why I posted my projects. I knowingly used a small motor because I anticipated that other things would fail before the lack of power from the 380 motor, and I was right. I posted them to demonstrate less about the power of the motor, but rather, even at the power of only a 380 motor other LEGO elements, or at least how the Mustang was built, were beginning to fail. Even at the moderate speed I was able to achieve with a 380 motor the suspension of the vehicle was beginning to fail; the car was bobbing up and down profusely. Yes, the suspension could have been rebuilt but the overall point was that in terms of trying to make LEGO perform more like RC there is SO much more to consider that just power. I would argue that connections (pins and liftarms, pins and connectors, etc.) are much more important to consider than even motors and power. Such was the rational for this project here: http://www.moc-pages.com/moc.php/422162 But in terms of increasing speed many other things to consider as well. Suspension, tires, gears, lubrication, etc. And even after all that, suppose, for arguments' sake, one can build a LEGO model that performs like an RC vehicle, then you will inevitably have some crashes, which as LEGO stands right now, won't hold together. I think it is a valid question to ask: Okay, I know people want LEGO to perform better, but really? At the Level of RC cars? They will spend more time rebuilding and ordering parts than driving. Don't get me wrong, one look at my pages and you will see I am all into third party parts, increasing the functionality of LEGO, including its strength, speed, etc. I use more third party parts (at times) than probably most out there. But, I know the limitations. LEGO into RC territory? Just ain't gonna happen. Perhaps very low-grade RC (brushed motors, etc) but nothing compared to what RC is really capable of. To me, the question of "why can't LEGO perform at the level of RC cars" is much like the question "why can't LEGO cranes lift as much as real cranes?" [relative to their weight of course] or perhaps the most infamous one "can LEGO fly?". The answer lies in the fact that regardless of building methods, planes/drones, real cranes, like RC cars, are using completely different materials than LEGO builds. One has to consider not just building methods and techniques, but actual materials. And sure, you can use third party elements that use metal or other stronger materials than ABS, but then you have to seriously consider the question if the end product is actually LEGO...... In summary, I am all about increasing the performance of LEGO. My pages demonstrate that. But, lets not lead people astray that LEGO performance will ever compare to RC. Speed aside, there are so many other factors to consider. You would have to change the tires (LEGO tires separate from rims too easily), likely the suspension, gears (ABS would be stripped with a 550 drill motor before you could say "play well"), drive line, the hundreds of connections that would burst at too much stress, not to mention add constant lubrication to the whole drive line (anywhere an axle went through a hole), and more for the model to behave like an RC car. Sounds less and less like LEGO to me...
  7. Sitting at the airport, catching yet another flight, and I finally get around to checking this out. Thank you so much for sharing; after a day of dealing with difficult people while traveling, I am reminded of awesome people can be and the lack of limitations of the human mind. Great stuff......
  8. Because stepping on LEGO is everyone's problem..... Just a silly little post as I kill time after work.... away from my collection...
  9. Jim can perhaps clarify, but not sure that is what he meant. I think what he is saying is that regardless, MOC or MOD, your creation is excellent enough to be in the HOF.
  10. For what it is worth, from an outsider's perspective reading this for the first time it did appear as an attack and I agree with @ JamesJT. I think the operative phrase was in what looked like a superlative, saying that "all" of Paul's MOCs are MODs.However, I think your response (@Charbel) was perfect and that you truly intended no harm. And for what it is worth, although @Alasdair Ryan has the ultimate say, I am agreeing with what appears like the consensus here and would say that your 919 is a true MOC not a MOD.
  11. Agreed. Also, "running all weekend" is the operative phrase here. In fact, as a children's toy, I'd say that if LEGO can even do that it qualifies as a VERY durable toy.
  12. This is so very funny.... I promise I had the exact same idea from watching the hydraulic press channel. Not for the contest....just to make in general. Although the press itself was going to be in Technic I would have made the back ground in regular system bricks to give it the appearance of an actual shop. Also, I was not even going to use pneumatics. Rather, four large LA in a square like shape so it would actually have some crushing power. Obviously, it could not crush anything of substance, but some things might be fun. LIttle grapes, play-doh, etc... One hindrance though... is the lack of travel in the LA and also pneumatics, I will be interested in how you plan to over come it......Others have commented on the lack of power. That is one obstacle, but the other is the limited range of the pneumatic cylinders. Either way, what you crush will have to be small. But..... perhaps placing four cylinders, kinda in the position of the four corners of a square, will give it perhaps some power.....
  13. I think another point to this discussion is to clarify what we mean by quality. Define it. Because I suspect much of what is meant by quality can actually be summarized by using less ABS. Not to bring up an unrelated topic, but complaints of LEGO being more expensive nowadays can somewhat be derailed when you consider how much ABS was used in each mold in the past compared to now. It is quite a bit less. So..... the idea of "poorer" quality might simply be summarized by the fact that LEGO uses less ABS than in the past..... Some may consider these the same thing..... I do not.
  14. I have always thought that C models are a little unappreciated. It is very difficult to build out of limited number of parts. Your project is great. It should be added to the C model thread
  15. Please read the forum rules and guidelines. You are responding to posts nearly three years old. Lets think about this for a minute......
  16. +1I agree with the above. And for what it is worth @ Myers Technic.... I did not see anything wrong with your posts. Could have left the age thing out but other than that not a problem
  17. I know this thread has been moved but I think a few comments are warranted about member's responses. Lets be sensitive to people who are open about emotional problems they are having. What the OP is trying to convey here is that he/she has a medical diagnosis.... and some members come back with responses such as "have the self control" and don't come back until you are "mature enough" types of responses? Com'on guys and gals. We are better than that. There are whole threads in the "community" section of the forum where people receive support for some of the conditions they have. Aspergers, Autism, etc..... and they are supported. This person is no different. And for what it is worth the whole "just don't log in to your account" business isn't going to work for the OP. That is exactly the point they are trying to make if people would listen. They can't just leave it open because they brood and mull over the account (obsess) until finally they give in and check the account (compulsion). If one is interested in finding more about the condition then look it up. It is one of the more genetically loaded psychiatric illness out there....... giving emphasis to the fact that it is simply not a "maturity" or "self-control" thing.
  18. As commented on mocpages, great job. As someone who also likes to build light on several of my projects, this is excellent.
  19. Ditto to all that has been said. Also, keep in mind that many builders, myself included, have many projects going at once. Because so much rebuilding goes on, it can be helpful to have several projects going at once to break up the monotony.
  20. Couldn't tell you honestly. I am a doc and covering down for another provider at the hospital. This type of stuff could not be further from my education/background......but I do enjoy learning about it
  21. Currently I am serving a temporary military assignment at fort Leonard wood in the US. There are several of these, or at least some version of them, on display all around the base. Very accurate and wonderful build
  22. I have been wanting to comment on this for a while..... just have not had the chance. Not only do I think this is a cool project, I think it raises some cool points for the future projects for many. BuWizz will be coming soon, and like this project, I am sure there are many that either have a project in mind, if not already made, and just waiting for BuWizz to release (I know I do. I have something already build in LDD waiting for BuWizz. I won't be sharing it until it releases). Buwizz will be lots of fun, but like this project, I think it will really test the limits of Lego elements. XL motors already twist axles, RC motors under high loads strip gears..... what else is going to happen with Buwizz? I think the third-party market for other things like metal axles, some pieces, tires, and perhaps even shocks might rise. As long as one is not purist I think projects like BuWizz will really open doors for some cool builds that may be actually fun to drive.... as long as one doesn't have a problem with perhaps breaking a Lego element or two......
  23. Google "baracade transformer"
  24. Sounds ambitious. I checked out your channel and the beginning of the crane looks promising. Good luck! Give us updates when they arrive. I am also a big fan of large cranes..... mobile or crawler..... I think large cranes have a certain beauty to them.......
