I have harped about the clutch gears in both these models. They are more a hindrance than anything and do wear down over time. In fact, I have found that lifting limitations on both these models is a result of the clutch gears...... Not the motors. I suspect the clutch gears are also to blames for your problems.

I probably will have several observations as I complete this project..... likely not unlike what others have mentioned so forgive if it is redundant. Not to beat a dead horse, I actually really like this set and try not to be too outspoken on its downfalls, but...why? The colors on the identified pieces don't match those that are adjacent to them. Its not like these pieces were not already made in orange... if not perhaps I could understand. But they are elsewhere in the model (even in the chassis) orange.... it would have been too easy to make them orange. Working on the rear lights and I really did not like the gap here: The fix was too easy..... I didn't like the bag plus I will be using that space so I get to use the parts from the bag for other things. Lego doesn't make a 1x1 liftarm (or more commonly known as connector) in orange so I used the 1x2 liftarm in orange from the bag... worked fine End result looks much better.... with the LED not exposing the bulb but shining through the bionicle piece. Upper back lights are also done. Four LEDs in the upper back lights....

And..... it is back out @ Lego S@H (US). Despite all its flaws.... this set is quite popular. I know this comment can go in the "your best Technic bargains" thread but it can also go here....... I bought mine second-hand from someone..... but perfect condition, sealed, etc. They only charged me the initial 300$. They even wanted to get me to cover tax....but I did not budge. I did not know it at the time but what I great deal I was getting. Probably one of the best "deals" I have had before.....which is saying a lot b/c I bought it for MRSP (minus taxes)!!

Gotcha The cost of the project that I am planning will run 60-70$ USD. It is hard for me to keep track b/c I am using a lot of stuff that I already have..... but did have to order some new stuff. In reality, if one wanted to go much cheaper they could. 2 lights for two headlights.... two lights for lower lights, and same for the back. This could be done for around half of what I am doing. A quick update.... there will be multiple LEDs for most of the lights. Just like real... higher-end cars. Especially the back lights. That is why mine is so expensive. Kinda like this. And for the orange lights I want to go for something like this.... Unfortunately..... after playing around a lot today I am not sure I will be able to do that. The light is too focused. all I get is something that looks like this: Which I think looks really cheesy. I will keep trying. But if can't get things to look more like the top pic then I will go for lights (orange) in the interior and so far it really looks good. I am happy with it. Kinda like this but a very light....subtle orange. Clashing with the black it looks really good. Now all I have to be able to do is get my hands on a camera that can actually accurately capture it.

I really think these type of questions are hard to answer. We get them all the time here on the forum. I don't want to sound dismissive, the question itself is a great one and one that likely is asked by hundreds of AFOLs worldwide every day. The problem with such questions, however, is that armed with the internet you should already be able to find the information you need. Many would be tempted to respond to this post with... "well the BWE offers this... and the Porsche offers this.... the BWE has this as a pro and this as a con and the Porsche...." you get the idea. But that info. is all out there. The pros and cons, strengths and weaknesses of the sets ... etc.... In reviews, the threads dedicated to each set.... etc. I am not sure any of us can say anything further ..... and we sure can't dictate what you value the most. I think at this point the information of what each set contains and is all about is out there.... all you might get are personal opinions regarding what people value at this point. Although you will get a lot of "value" comments, remember that this a highly subjective term.....If you value pieces for little money - then....BWE, if you want a highly detailed cool book with cool packaging, and an awesome display model then perhaps the Porsche. It really is up to you. If you haven't taken the time to do research, that is what I suggest you do first. I think that will be much more helpful than any responses you get on this question. Perhaps even including mine!

Doesn't matter. What you are getting at is supply and demand. Being in production or not is indirectly related to concept because although it is directly related to supply it is indirectly related to demand. The Xerion tires, given that they are in production, are in supply, but are so in a limited number. They will be in huge demand right now. That is ultimately what demands the cost. Take a look at the tumbler tires (drag racer) - those tires are now in three sets (one discontinued). And I don't think that they will be nearly as sought after as the Xerion's tires. Their average price right now is nearly 20$ USD. 'Bout the same price as a good RC truck tire. I totally could be wrong..... just my opinion... but if they are as expensive as PP tires on BL (w/o the set) I would, personally just get third-party tires. Also..... if they are used in other sets in the future you are right, that would help the price go down. Hopefully that is in future plans for TLG.

I don’t think the following modifications need their own thread, heaven knows the Porsche has enough threads dedicated to it already. However, this is the first probably several posts on something that I have been planning for a while, and now I got the first shipment for my modifications. @didumos69 has done a great job with his ultimate playable version of 42056. Now I get to work on my ultimate displayable version. The repairs will not be exhaustive, just a few minor tweaks here and there that I think make the model look better. But the ultimate additions to the model….well, you likely already guessed it. To add LED lights…… This will be more difficult that perhaps it appears at first glance. I have done lights with several models and I think it is a lot of fun. Check out lights on the Arocs. But planning where the lights go, sequence they are plugged in, tension, wire management, organization of power unit and additional output units, etc. all goes into a project like this. Like fishing, if the wires get too crossed and taut, they will not work properly. I love the lights I am working with, have used old ones on project in the past, but they are anything but robust. They really cannot be to be able to fit into some of the small places I will require them to go. They are very fragile and require lots of care. And planning. Unfortunately I can’t just plan and unplug at will if I don’t like something….. after having used these for quite some time I have figured each light has only (more or less) 4-5 plug/unplugs into the power or output unit before it becomes useless. The wires just really can’t take more than that (and this is even with the greatest precaution NOT to pull the wire, but pull from the base). The quality of the photos may not be the greatest. I have to use a point-and-shoot camera and make-shift background for all these shots. I am on a business trip for several months and don’t have access to my regular photo equipment. But I hope to make the quality of the photos still pretty good…… Let the fun begin…..

These really are great shots because they how dense the Claas must be. I can't believe it has nearly as many parts as the Unimog and so many more than the Volvo loader. Really looking forward to this build..... Unless these are available from TLG for cheap I still dont recommend this. They will likely be as expensive as the PP tires when they hit BL, and a good pair of RC truck tires will be still much better quality for the same or even cheaper price. I like these tires as much as the next guy.... and so happy to see them in an official set. If one is going to buy the set they will be a great addition.... but to buy them separately, unless TLG sells them cheap, IMO is not a good move...

Non-vehicle sets & MOCs
nerdsforprez replied to miguev's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Pretty much grohl's whole thread.... -
Will do and yes.... I second the LDD request..... and I would not be surprised if someone weren't working on that right now.....

My first modification and improvement would be to have the set released on July 27, 6:16 am Central Time (US) - so I could actually have a set to begin improving

Color Coding
nerdsforprez replied to Richard Dower's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well put. I think the operative phrase is "for me" - it is not universally a non-issue; no single person has a right to that claim. But individually, sure, each person is entitled to their POV. To an extent I agree with your perspective. If no one really sees the internals.... then who cares? Ever built the inside of any of the SW UCS sets? Try the R2D2 model...... color vomit heaven! But no one will see the inside of the R2 model.... so it does not really matter. However, with the Porsche, people certainly DO see the inside. Or at least for many builders, because the innards.... gears, etc. are an integral part of the model. That is the whole reasoning behind the popular modification (Hispabricks) to make it more modular and be able to easily remove the chassis from the bodywork.......That is why I still argue that color vomit really does matter for this model.... I think that many will be displaying it as a modular build.... i..e. one that they will occasionally (or frequently) want to be removing the bodywork from the chassis -
Color Coding
nerdsforprez replied to Richard Dower's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
While I see your POV, and although you qualify your stance on the issue with "IMO" - stating that it is a "non-issue" is a little strong I think. Not a big deal for you...... probably... but a "non-issue?" If color coding, and thus the vomit is primarily a marketing/PR thing (i.e. trying to diversify the fan base) to allow more people into the hobby, that is completely understandable. However, although AFOLs (who complain of color vomit) do not comprise the majority of consumers they most likely comprise a lot of loyalists. Adults who raise their kids on Lego. Adults who create wonderful MOCs and share them with the world on social media. Adults who share Lego on media outlets, talk Lego with their business associates, friends, create MOCs for companies, etc. Adults who know the product and the company as well as those that work in it. These folks may not be the majority..... but they are imperative for Lego's success. Make no mistake about it..... the internet has really been the driving force of Lego's success in recent years (decade.... almost two). Even the success of the SW genre would be nothing with out the internet. And it has been the loyalists of Lego..... that grew up with it in the 70s, 80's 90's etc. that are a main publishers of Lego media content. It is free marketing man.......So whether it is the issue of color vomit, product quality, etc... the main idea is that the opinion of veteran consumers of the product DOES matter... ALOT. Whether it be product quality, simplifying of instructions, color vomit, etc.... whatever... Lego really does have to listen. And they do...... you stated it yourself in your original post. I think TLG for the most part gets it. Think of what would happen if all those that had a complaint of color vomit (or other AFOL issues) got ignored for so long they they outgrew Lego......went to some other hobby. Like perhaps Sariel, or other popular builders? So so much free marketing and publicity would go down the drain....... -
Always fun to wake up and see something like this. Wonderful job..... I think it is just a 1x1 inverted round plate......not the top of an axle....and it is not tan, but like a burnt orange. The same piece that is in the middle of the steering wheel, only inverted. You can see the differences on image one and two of the post. Tan axles are exposed off to the side of the dash.....

666 - lets just stay mechanical shall we? This is a world-wide forum after all Name fits IMO..... and this is a wonderful job. Love the front grill as well.... to be more specific, the orientation of all the panels works so well, as their given orientation gives the appearance of more grills. Steering, two speeds and raising clearance are too much fun. Great job. Would love to see this thing driven by BuWizz.... And as a side note.... I am so happy that we are getting more and more new tires..... I think we can only continue to expect to see some really fun and great creations.

Ugh....moving has its advantages and disadvantages. New adventures but new headaches as well. I hope everything arrived in good condition. I have been there myself plenty o' times. The shed it nice and secure.....in reality, the kiddos have their own Lego rooms. Their bedrooms...... I knew I could not be the only one. Leave it to Blakbird to be another one.... Although I am not into reviewing sets....I hope to have some fun modifications to the Porsche set here in a few weeks. Waiting for BL order and others as well.....And then the BWE and Xerion come out.....Great way to decompress after hard day at work....

This is terrific..... I love to see non-vehicle machines/creations out of technic. The designs are superb, and video creative and nicely done.......although if I hear the phrase "paradigm shift" once more I think I will throw up in my mouth.......

Given that I am away for a work related job for several months I had to set up a temporary place to build at my hotel. I could not really bring any of my collection with me..... but lucky for me some incredibly awesome sets for the 2H of 2016 have come out and I can build and mod them right here in my own temp building pad! Wondering if any one else has had to do this before?

nerdsforprez replied to Toni-23's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Glad you did. This is a nice little creation.... good to now now there are instructions available. -
@didumos69 - I received my set a while back and more or less it is built. I have included all the changes above and will be implementing several of my own. Hopefully I can post them.... but as I am away for a business job I may not be able to for a while. Thank you for your hard work on this. I know it is kinda fun to get feedback regarding your efforts.... so consider yourself informed The friction reducing changes and other changes discussed above to the gear box work like a charm. Shifting on the set is flawless right now. -- To all others... Thanks for the recommendations. Community-like projects such as this one are incredibly fun and informative.
