Its not a big thing. I know that taking the time for video, editing etc. can be a pain sometimes. Your presentation is actually great with the explanation and the pictures. I actually think that a video would be less work!! Anyways, and video, even if it is with a cell phone and little editing is helpful to see the functions. Especially in a build that is so unique.

When building the wall there really wasn't any dust on top of the door frames. So I assume there won't be a ton. True... though I am not sure I will do anymore. Too busy. But we will see... Very valuable thoughts. In fact, I began adding many, many more "greebles" - and focused on different techniques, etc. However, like you said, it became too busy. So I toned it down and really am pleased with the results. And... I think there is still enough to make the build unique and not too redundant.

Project is done! I'll be brief: - took about 4 months to complete. - has lights, and hidden trinkets, from either my kids or my childhood behind secret walls, sliding doors, etc. I am not posting pics of them, you will have to see YT video to see them. I am big on cyclical nature of things, and use my Lego room to remind me of this. So things from my childhood, kids, etc. only made sense. - Combines two of my favorite Lego genres. Technic and Space/Sci-fi. Why Technic? I consider the hidden doors, etc. as functions along with the lights. - Details of the build are above. Stills: (also check out my flickr account, I will be posting higher resolution photos there in time). Lemme know your thoughts!

[MOC] Mack R series
nerdsforprez replied to LegoV94's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow... I really really love this model. Looks and functioning are top notch. I detail I love that I don't think has been pointed out... the air ride suspension! Brilliant! (not functioning, the aesthetic detail in the underbelly shot) Presentation of the suspension is also terrific. Tires are a great choice. There is even a little indent to the front axle tires from the weight. Something that mimics real life that you often don't get from Lego tires... -
lol.... now that is something!! Really we were talking about official sets though. Which... looks like the AROCS lifted just great! The tower crane... well, that is just an awesome MOC, not an official set Its not that Lego can't be built for heavy lifts. That certainly is not the case. We all know of David Szmandra's work. Beautiful, perhaps the best crawler crane out of Lego I have seen. https://www.brothers-brick.com/2017/12/27/fully-functioning-124-scale-lego-crane-24-ft-tall-can-lift-chair-video/ 1:24 scale Liebherr LR 11000 that can extend 24 ft. tall. Can still lift a chair when using just the main boom. Years ago I built my own Liebherr LR 1750. Over 7 ft. tall and could still lift several hundred grams even in the tallest configuration. Mimicked the famous lift in 2012 of the LR 13000 lifting several other Liebherr crawler cranes. My lift was of 9394, 8288, and 42042. It wasn't pretty, but it got the job done!

You are right. My bad. Looking back I could have sworn the info from promo bricks said it will have a luffing jib, but as you say that is not the case and nearly everyone agrees this likely will not happen. Now I see the point of confusion for our previous posts. Talk about top down memory processing
-
Gotcha. My point is, if you have read the entire thread, is that we already know there is a luffing jib. Or at least that is what is rumored. So, as far as anything can be labeled as "known" for this set, a luffing jib can be (really, at this point nothing is known... but you get my drift). So, the question is: powerboom and luffing jib, or just regular boom with luffing jib, and we all know which would have more pieces. That is why I had the take that I did on what you said. I have built, and played with every Lego crane since 8288 with just a few exceptions. Still own 8288, 42009, 42042, and many more. Their lifting capacity is not great. Any of them. Nor really should it be, I don't think that is in Lego's design goals. Of course they can lift something, but it will not be much. And if you have followed other recent official Lego crane sets, you will know there have been no shortage of folks breaking or damaging them because they are trying to lift too much with them.
-
Sorry for the no response. I am not sure what you mean here. The powerboom will consume more pieces than regular boom b/c it has two columns. Sorry, not trying to be snarky, genuinely not sure what you mean here. About the manual. I think that is waaaaaay too technical. We are talking about ABS here. They (TLG) don't really want you to be lifting ANYTHING if they can help it. I have a Liebherr LTM 11200 9.1, a 30lb beauty diecast metal model, which is amazingly robust, which does not even come with lifting specifications. except I think it may encourage people to try and lift even more
-
But com'on...in reality why would we? What would motivate TLG to provide that? It would only increase chances of buyers trying to lift ridiculous things, likely breaking parts, complaints, etc...and we already know the part count is low. Power boom would only take away from that. I don't think it's likely we get that setup.

If this is the case I fear it is going to stick out a ton. I just can't see a carrier large enough to fill it out at only 2900 pieces and 4 ft. tall. Found this on YT. This to me looks perhaps in the ball park of 2900 pieces. Their turntable appears to be non-Lego. Metal perhaps. But wondering what others think. This might be even slightly more than 3000 pieces. But the turntable for the RTC or BWE would definitely stick out a ton and look weird. Another thing. Looking at pics of this online there are multiple versions with double columns in the main mast. Is this only for certain versions? B/c it does not appear in every version or configuration. Anyone know the story here?
-
I was thinking along the exact same questions as @gvo25. About the turntable.... I am not sure if the one from the rough terrain crane (red) will be used. That would make the superstructure large, which, if we really are looking at only ~2900 pieces I think that would make the superstructure too large (unless we have new, large, lattice pieces for the boom). Perhaps the turntable from the UCS AT-AT is really on the table (see what I did there) About the string. I would love if TLG offered reeving of the string multiple times through the hook block, etc. But realistically I am not sure that will happen. Anyone who has reeved a large Lego crane cable system knows it can be a pain. Or any model crane for that matter. The amount of complaints, etc. may be difficult for TLG to handle. This is one thing that really intrigues me about this set. This really is a gamble for TLG. Even if the build of a large Lego crane is somewhat redundant, the setting it up, with back mast, luffing jib, all the string, etc. can be difficult and time-consuming. Reeving is a complete pain! That is the thing that I love about model cranes. They are the only Lego models I truly feel one can play with, i.e. setting them up. Years ago I built an over 8 ft. tall crane and it literally took hours to set up and do a lift. I loved it. But by the end my back hurt, neck, etc. I really felt, at the end of the day, like I was actually working on a construction site! My point is.. setting up can be very time-consuming and difficult. I would not expect too much. Also...and I am glad that no one has yet discussed (that I have seen) how much this thing is going to be able to lift. No doubt there will be folks who test these limits, try to lift something absurd, and then complain to TLG about it. So I really think this is actually a real challenge for them to put in a set. 8288 was a real treat. I have it here in my Lego room. But it is flimsy as hell, and can't lift anything. I hope TLG is prepared to face all the complaints they will have if they release something that flimsy....

Well you would know better than me. But I guess the operative phrase here is "it may be simple." Its not that I don't think it can be done in this amount of pieces, but if it is it will be just as you say, simple. Nothing to really justify the price point. What I am saying is if the price point is correct, then I think there will be more pieces, if the pieces count is accurate there will be more pieces, details, etc.
-
Yes. Agreed. Perhaps even smaller than 42042. If 42042 had ~1400 pieces, and this only has ~2800, ~1400 for back mast, extension jib, and derrick ballast does not seem like a lot. IMO, something has to give. We have wrong information on something. Price. Piece count.... something. For what it is worth though... this set may be somewhat unique... something we have been clamoring for for awhile. The only other mobile crane we have that has extension jib, back mast, etc. was 8288 if I am not mistaken. Not motorized. No mobile derrick ballast. Although overpriced, as a lover of cranes, this may be a set I pick up.

Thank you for the encouragement. Means a lot to me. Can't wait till my next project This is awesome! You really didn't have to do this, but I am sure everyone will appreciate the gesture. Folks can now judge for themselves. Like @brunojj1has said, mad respect for how you have dealt with the whole situation.

Yea and sorry I did not mean to offer you as tribute. I will bow out of this discussion for now. The squabble all sounds somewhat silly to me and shooting from the hip type of reactivity. As mentioned in the OP's last post, clearly this is a very different build than Jorge's original. But I suppose every one is entitled to their own evaluation of the two builds. I just hope folks actually evaluate the two before sounding off, instead of just looking at them....
