  1. Agree with all the above. However, one thing I might add that may help with the disillusionment that accompanies the dummy-ing down of Lego Technic is that while the sets themselves might be decreasing in quality, sophistication, etc. I think the mass production and globalization of Technic sets is also what is at least partially driving the hobby of MOCing, and the overall hobby as we know it. Obviously, the internet has a huge part of it, but consider the vast amount of parts available to so many people. Yes, Lego is expensive, but there are hundreds, if not thousands of us MOC-ers with tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of pieces. The amalgamation of these numbers is astonishing. And this does not occur without mass producing a product, which doesn't really occur w/o globalization of the product, mass marketing it (which IMO, is synonymous with dummying something down), etc. To increase accessibility and inclusion to more and more people TLG has to include folks that otherwise would not be interested in what began as a fairly intellectual product (i.e. including folks to the left of a standard IQ distribution). Therefore their dummying down of things actually makes sense from their perspective IMO. This greater global market I think enhances the hobby and allows thousands of us to have the collections we do. I don't think such huge collections would be available to so many w/o the above process. In short, the mass marketing, globalization, etc. of Lego Technic while perhaps dummying down the overall product is what provides the life force of the hobby of MOCing as we know it.....
  2. I also like the white better and will be doing the same. The neon yellow just don't fit IMO. And I really don't see the problem others are having with white. Even took a look at my UCS SW Imperial Shuttle the other day... I see no problems with it Now a 10+ year old set...
  3. I watched this one as well but I guess I can't say I saw what you saw. He pretty much just covered the points already discussed in other reviews (sagging rear and play in rotor head). The points about perhaps some motorized functions not working that well due to gearbox friction almost becomes a moot point because in the "final words" at the end of the video he praises how well the motorized functions work. So.... not sure what you are seeing in this review...
  4. Shared this with my family at dinner last night. Started such a good conversation with my kids. What a great story. Wonderful job guys.
  5. Okay...thxs. I haven't bought and official set for a while..... let alone one on the release date. So I really don't have a pulse for it anymore
  6. question for the group in the US. I did a quick online search and it appears that sets are released in the US at midnight pacific time. So, for the 1 AUG release, that would be 12 AM pacific time. I want to make sure, the thread that I read was over year old. That means for me on the East coast I need to be up by like 3 for the Airbus H175 if I don't want to miss out. Do folks think that it will be that popular that I need to make such extreme measures to purchase it day 1 of release? I have been traveling now for quite some time and am really looking forward to staying put and working on improving this set....
  7. Yup. Good idea. Just reading this. Keep us posted. If it does not work I am thinking about looking on shapeways or something for a printed solution. Or something similar to what @blbills posted...
  8. I called 2 local stores. Neither are offering early. Too bad. I could drive and make the purchase on the weekend, but start work on Mon so can't purchase on the "official" release
  9. very comprehensive answer. Thank you.
  10. Sorry for what might be silly questions. I have not made a PAB order for many years. First question I have is what is the difference, if any, between old PAB service and the new Bricks and Pieces. Second question is I can look online and see which pieces are available, but as I understand it there are many pieces not listed on the site. If this is accurate, how is the best way to determine which pieces are available and which are not? And what is the distinction, because virtually everything is available if one calls and reports a piece not included in a set, so, if it is available as a replacement why not through PAB/Bricks and Pieces? Thanks in advance for any responses...
  11. This is how I feel about the recent trend of TLG to color-code the insides of large UCS SW sets and Technic sets. Awesome build BTW...
  12. I am not sure where you are storing things....but white MOCs/set parts in my collection don't show what you're reporting at all. Course I really don't have anything pre 2012.....but still. Wonder if this has been others experience as well.
  13. Day one purchase for me. Excited. I am sure there will be some maj improvements from the AFOL community. Great Review from @Sariel. Though I can't see how resembling the real thing is a problem or weakness (identified "problem" #1). Much like a supercar moving at high speeds, you can't see much steering turn of the front wheels when it navigate corners. Same with the pitch of the rotors moving at high speeds. You really are not going to see the pitch change much. Very clever camera use though (23:53).
  14. Very cool. Indeed, works very smoothly. Thanks for sharing.
  15. I love this build. I have built @brunojj1's version and have it sitting in my Lego room and it just so happens the P1 is one of my favorite all-time cars. This is beautiful, concise, and appropriately dense. I would love to build it one day and have it sitting next to @brunojj1's 1/8 scale version....
  16. This indeed is a gorgeous build! Heck, I love it just at the chassis level. Looks so clean. I remember seeing this at the WIP stage/thread. Just curious, you linked this post to the WIP which has updated pics in DEC of 2021. I thought the build was completed at that time. Is this final stage any different than the final stage posted on the WIP thread?
  17. To be sure. Not to mention different interpretations of these aspects. I agree that color scheme is among my top priorities, but I rather enjoy 10304's color scheme. Or shall I say schemes.... I am not much for vibrant color in my cars.... period. I like the black and grays with just a hint of color. I am in the process of ordering my own MB CLA 45 AMG, and though it comes in some vibrant colors I am ordering it in matte gray....
  18. Oh man I am really excited about this. Perhaps I will buy two and build the different variants to place on the new bridge I built over the entry into my Lego room. Like I did with the Mustang (including Firas' model). Different takes I guess. Per first glance, this is on par with 10265 to me.
  19. TY both for the kind comments!
  20. Ahhh!! This discussion would go great in our Show us your Working Place/LEGO room thread
  21. Made a new post here: But since it has to do with my Lego room thought I would put a link here as well. Lego rooms are fun! I am using mine more like a canvas, my last two projects have actually been build right into the walls!
  22. Admittedly, I am not sure where to post this one. Built more out of Technic bricks than anything, and I am a regular at the good 'ol Technic subforum, but the good o' eye test indicated to me that this was the best place for the post. And sorry for the bold typing. I wrote this up elsewhere and when I pasted it here it was bold font. DK how to change it. If the MODs would like to, that would be great. This build is a symbol of sorts. Mounted just above the entrance as one comes in my Lego room. Arched road bridge with two Ford Mustangs approaching one another; one a 1960’s Ford Mustang (Lego 10265) and the other a 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 (Firas Abu Jaber’s B model for Lego 10265) about to cross paths. A cross-roads of sorts. The moment at which one’s past intersects one future, or vice versa, however you choose to see it. Cars can also be placed going in the same direction, with one ahead the other, as a sort of metaphor. Building with Lego serves as a time portal for me, as I step back 30 some odd years. Does this mean the past is winning the race? The future? I suppose the real answer lies open to interpretation. I can appreciate the metaphor as I enter my Lego room. Lego was a big part of my life growing up as a kid, I probably spent as much time building, sorting, etc. as I did playing with other kids. But then puberty kicked in, hanging with friends, graduations, and life all followed and Lego was forgotten. But once school was done, careers were solidified, and children raised I found myself returning to Lego. Returning to a root of sorts, some 30 years later, resembled closely (off about a decade in each direction) by the two Lego models shown in this build. The past and future of a hobby I enjoy. Right about the entry of my Lego Room. About the build, as can be seen, the framework of the bridge is built mainly with a Technic chassis. Lots of triangles, to provide strength but keep the build lightweight. Still light enough to be lifted by a model crane. The road part of the model uses the SNOT technique for interlocking 2x4 DBG bricks (mostly, there are 2x8, 2x6, and other sized bricks as well). The SNOT technique road separates and is notched, to help with separation and removal, as a one-piece road would not work for installation. Watch the video for a better demonstration. Really the only place to install a build like this in my Lego room was in the entryway, which also serves the metaphor, and could only be done at this odd angle. This added to the complexity of the build, but I must say added to the fun as well. My YT channel is new. As described in the YT post. I have a near-decade old channel that died after the school which was affiliated with the account decided to end their relationship w/ YT. So, any new subscribers would be great. If you want to check out any old stuff, here is the old channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/FunctionOverFormTV Video for the Sci-fi Lego Wall you see in the background is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8JeVrf1uQA&t=39s Video for the whole room renovation is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra-EghDl-yY&t=57s Thanks for checking this out. Any comments are welcome!
  23. I also am loving what you have posted thus far. Agree with the other comments regarding the drivetrain. Unique build so far. Keep us informed with your progress....
  24. Awesome room Jim!! Fun to have some real building space. You should also post additional pics to this thread. Hate to see it die....
  25. Good to know, thanks. Which kinda makes it all more puzzling why the top is so out of proportion. The BB would have been a good excuse, but I guess it is not located there.
