[TC22] Volvo L180HL
nerdsforprez replied to Akassin's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Also really enjoying this one. Unique build. Looking good so far... -
Forgive the comment here, although longtime AFOL and member of this site, I have not bought many flagship or other sets for a while. So kinda outta the loop. By my memory, we usually have more information regarding 2H sets by now. Is this accurate? Or am I misremembering. I am excited for the crawler crane and helicopter, and excited for more details to emerge.

Not sure I follow what you are referring to. The pistons used in 42130 are the same ones that have been used for the last billion years for Technic.....

Wow... lots to say about this build. All good things I have complained about color vomit for such a long time. I understand the reason for it, but it can, at least IMO, decrease the building experience. I love that you took the time and effort to limit such color vomit. And the flat silver pieces look great! The whole chassis looks clean, driveline clear and not unnecessarily encumbered. The bodywork is fantastic. I know there is alot of system parts, but even the technic panels are meticulously placed. Very well done. TY for sharing.

It better be Technic parts. Or actually it will not be like the F1 since the internal structure (should be) diagonal and therefore would have limited applicability. In fact, even if it is a new frame, with no internal built in structure I still think it would have limited applicability, 7x17 is quite large. But time will tell!!!

I think the lattice elements are something new. I mean, we have something similar but these elements may open a lot of doors for Technic cranes. My question will be how they plan to use them in future sets. They are fairly specific to cranes, and we can only have so many of them. I hope they come in different sets, because this really will leave the window open for one to upgrade this set if desired. Or at least available for a decent price on Bricks and Pieces...

Very excited to see this. In fact, I think I will follow. I have thought about getting this set, and all the modifications that could be done to it. If there is going to be a PIMP my titanic thread, then I definitely will be getting the set. The mods that I am going to do are not so much for improvement but rather to add something that it was not initially designed for, like your remote controlling it. Great stuff. I will keep a close eye...

THere really is nothing to explain. Technic is changing, which isn't really all that bad of news. They come out with some great new elements fairly frequently. For folks that feel this way I recommend just to stop buying sets for sets sake (lol...) and more for the pieces. I think AFOLs who are bored with official sets (I have been for quite a while now) need a paradigm shift. Official sets are parts packs; not something to build and be excited about. At least for me this paradigm shift works. I can think of a lot of fun things to do with those tasty panels; none of which actually include building the set.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before. I haven't read all 13 pages of this thread, and I am not excited for the set so I am not up to speed. HOwever, I did just watch @racingbricks YT video and it appears there is a sticker that really surprises me TLG allowed to pass. Right behind the cockpit. both sides. Reads "Bitci.com" but the way it is illustrated looks awfully like "Bit**". I cannot believe that passed inspection....I wonder if there are going to be complaints...

Thanks! Adhesive is not temp. which actually I am glad for. So I don't have to worry about coming home from work one day in like 4-5 years only to see everything crashed to the floor. Actually, there are only a few segments strategically anchored with adhesive. The rest is jointed to those anchor points with bricks, so actually it will be easy to take down if I have to. The wall was planned, and built, to be removable if needed with some, but not a lot of effort.

I agree to a point. I do like the lines produced by flex axles, but I also am not a huge fan of gaps and spaces, which flex axles left in most models. A benefit to these gaps/spaces though was that you could see more underneath. And I like that with FA one could see more of the chassis, gearbox, etc. However, I do like more full bodywork at the same time with panels, etc. As long as the build is modular, and one can remove the body easily to see said gears, chassis, etc.

Now presented on Beyond the Brick's YT page! I like what John (owner) did to change the music. But everything else really stayed the same.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed.
