  1. It was a narrative device utilised to appease the intended audience: children. If they'd gone full out "this wasn't real, what you've been watching for the past hour. Emmet and his friends are just this other kid's playthings", it would have literally alienated the demographic the film was intended for (I know, it's hard to believe this wasn't created soley to sell toys to collectors, hahaha). They pretty much needed to establish that Emmet is "real", and you yoo can take him home to have adventures at your house, boys and girls. It was risky enough, having the entire back end of the film, but that little bit helped to anchor the 'fantasy' for kids. Nothing more.
  2. What does it matter if Emmet could move and think? I mean...was that scene any less realistic than the entire movie up to that point? If you go into a cartoon about walking, talking Lego minifigs and leave dissapointed that it wasn't 'realistic' enough... the problem wasn't the movie.
  3. In the 'New 52' she wields a divine sword (as well as her lasso). It's actually a nice touch that they included one for her. :D
  4. Ghost Vitruvius was there at the end too, hanging out by the couch when the Duplo aliens landed (the same scene where President Business was sitting on it).
  5. They have new faces though. Both of the previous Benny's have the same face prints, and I think I like this one more. Angry Wildstyle looks great too! I really like the Good Cop print here too. So, while I was initially a little purturbed that these sets were so minifig heavy, an light on the builds...these are some most welcome figs. :D Emmet's car, too, I'm full pleased to see. I'm a little too shy to ask for such things (it was a free build for kids at TRU), so I'm glad I don't have to pay premium prices for it now. It'll be nice to have another double decker couch so I can swap out the studded tiles with more smooth ones. The more I look at these, the happier I am, actually. I was hoping for larger sets, but the line has already been pretty exhaustive so that might just be greedy. :D
  6. I was hoping for a little bit more substance. These seem like minifig packs, with some small builds tossed in. I'm stoked for Ghost Vitruvius, more than anything else here. I've been wanting him, so I'm super chuffed that he's coming! Sad Kitty and 'Super Angry' Kitty are fun too. The cheap Skeletron is a nice bonus as well. I love the cop car and bike set! And more Robo SWAT guys are always welcome. This set is pretty much perfect. I'm not super stoked for these, but I'm not overly dissapointed either. There are some good bits, along side a whole lot of rehash.
  7. Okay...this wait is absolutely killing me. I need to see those other two sets. I can't recall the last time I've stalked the interwebs so furiously, looking for news. Hahaha.
  8. Can't you just carefully take and xacto knife to the stickers, as you're dissassembling the model? I actually prefer STAMP decals to pre-segmented ones that you apply individually to each part. They're easier to apply, and can be trimmed by hand after application.
  9. I've come thisclose to buying this house on several occasions now. Something keeps me from pulling the trigger though. Fanastic review though! I'll probably give in one of these days. It really is a nice house. :D
  10. Right? I was a little dissapointed too. Oh, well. Well have them in hand soon enough. Less than four months to release now! :D
  11. It's better than the one I expected to see (which was none at all). Given that her invisible plane hasn't been a 'thing' for many years now (it was done away with Post-Crisis, and briefly reintroduced by Byrne, only to dissapear entirely again when Luke took over the book. In the New 52, it doesn't exist at all. Steve Trevor has an 'invisible jet', but it's just military craft with cloaking tech...). This makes me happy as all get out! It's kind of the single greatest thing the LEGO Group could have released. :D If it's not to your liking, at the very least it introduces some key transclear parts to MOC a better plane...something that's currently impossible to do. :D
  12. Bah. She was, in fact, owning Lex' mech like no one's buisness. Superman was splayed out on the pavement after a blast from the Kryptonite ray, leaving the dirty work up to Diana. She full sorted it. That's how it went down.
  13. These look amazing! The only thing I'm less than thrilled with is having to buy a larger set with a useless Bat-mech (to be immediately dissassembled and stored away with every other worthless Bat-vehicle I've amassed) to get the invisible plane. :/ The plane itself looks glorious though! :D
  14. I actually don't mind the Soldier's Fort. It's full what I expect from a 'Pirates' set. I'll be grabbing a couple of these. The rest though....yeah, I dunno what to say.
  15. I don't think lying to his parents is any sort of appropriate behavior. For whatever reason, right or wrong, his parents have expressed thier wishes. As thier child your friend has an obligation to obey thier wishes. Your friend would do well to sit down with thier parents and explain why LEGO is so important to them. Perhaps a compromise can be reached? Suggesing your friend defy thier wishes and lie to them is an awful suggestion though.
  16. It feels to me like you're going about it all wrong, and thus your frustration? The key to LEGO isn't in the finished model or in the minifigs. It's the act of building. Granted, there are some models that you're going to love and want to keep on a shelf. Even those, though, I'd suggest taking down every now and again and tearing them apart to rebuild. If you're just checking off lists and collecting minifigs, then I can see why it must feel tedious and unsatisfying. For sorting your parts, take it in stride. Try sorting by set, assembling all the requisite parts for each set in a ziploc, and then moving on to the next. Each complete set is a mini milestone so it doesn't feel like a giant, insurmountable task. Just have fun with it. No hobby should feel like 'work'. If getting back to basics doesn't work for you, then pack it all away and find something else to amuse yourself with. LEGO isn't going anywhere, and you can revisit it when you feel the spark again. :D
  17. They're not at my TRU yet, as of last day. :/
  18. Thanks for all of the suggestions, guys! It's much appreciated. :D
  19. Different strokes, I guess? That Magneto is full my favorite look for the character. It's not something I ever expected to see LEGO release, when he has more garish costumes to offer. As for Cyke, it makes sense that they went with that look it's in line with the era represented by the other X-men minifigs we have. The 90's look, while popular with a certain generation who grew up on that gob awful cartoon, isn't really all that representative of the character. This is undeniably his classic look, and most of his costumes are a variation on the whole 'body sock' look. So, literally any other look not based on a few years in the 90s would more or less look like this (with his X-factor blue and white costume offering a brighter pallet, perhaps).
  20. I don't see why people insist on making a distinction, to be honest. They're all little LEGO people going to the same place on your shelves, displays and/or parts buckets. The LEGO Movie set especially doesn't feel any different from any other CMF wave. While the Simpsons are clearly very specific characters who's parts have limited use, their accessories (the hilight of any CMF wave, really) are as useful as any other wave. The coffee 'to go' cup in the Movie wave is, hands down, the greatest minifig accessory. Ever. :D
  21. M.O.D.O.K. in the Marvel line too. But he's got a right enormous head.
  22. Aye! It was fully fun. I'm a complete sucker for Muppets though, so I might be less than objective. These last two films did a fantastic job of embracing what it is that makes the Muppets special (unlike some of the unfortunate 90s offerings...). :D Aye, so he did. It would seem that reading isn't my strong point. My apologies. :D But, yeah, there are endless options for the Muppets. Once they've done a head sculpt for the core cast, they each have so many iconic looks to offer up. I...I really need this to happen. I'd never thought about it before, but picturing it in my head now, this is pretty much the greatest idea. Ever. :D
  23. Thank you! I was trying to take a picture, but my photo skills + glossy paper = fail. :p I'd kill for a LEGO Tigra! Come on...:D It makes me sad to see a comics acurate Vision and Wanda. Hopefully they see production along side the movie versions (or even instead of!). We got movie Cap and Thor, and then comics accurate versions too....so you never know! :D
  24. I would literally sell my soul (and toss in my grandma to sweeten the pot) to have Muppets minifigs. You have no idea how insanely happy these would make me. They're Disney though, not Warner. I don't see this being a roadblock, as we have Disney Princesses currently on store shelves. Can you imagine the possibilities with LEGO Muppets?! Every single set you have would suddenly be 200% more interesting with Muppets on it. From spaceships to pirateships to cars to dumptrucks...ect. Muppets make everything better! :D
