Review Review: 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!
klinton replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Is there a smaller version of the LEGO bar pieces (like the lightsaber blades, but in grey)? Something like that to brace the arms would solve a world of headache. I just leave them in the little docking bay for the most part, but I can imagine people wanting to 'play' with them might get a bit annoyed.- 228 replies

This seems like the right thread? I was wondering if anyone here knew where to find clear supports for planes and/or spacecraft? Where you could mount the ship on it 'in flight' and attatch it to a plate or something? Is this something LEGO makes (there were a bunch shown in the film, so I'm assuming so...) or is it third party? EDIT: This is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for.

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
klinton replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Yup. It was a free hand out today at the comic store. It featured a bunch of adverts from Marvel's partner companies. LEGO had a two page spread with a tonne of minifigs. It was fun. :D -
Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion

Did anyone here get the 75th Anniversary Marvel magazine today? The giant two page LEGO spread featuring everyone from Sqirrel Girl (!!) to Professor X was glorious. :D -
Would Ninjago be succesful without Lego.
klinton replied to Takanuinuva's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Not everything needs to work within the LEGO Movie mythology though. The characters don't need to be 'aware' of the fact that they're made of LEGO. It's perfectly fine that it's it's own story that doesn't overtly address that it's LEGO. As to if it would work if it wasn't LEGO...it's kind of a moot point, as it is the brainchild of LEGO designers and was never intended to be anything other. Other ninja franchises can and do sell without being made of LEGO, so I'd imagine Lloyd and company would be just fine. They'd have much less exciting playsets and vehicles though... -
I don't like these price points, to be honest. These feel like they'll be 'starter packs' more than anything. I'm super stoked for new pirate sets, but I wish the set featured a few higher end sets for things like the island and a ship. I've not seen the actual models though, so they could be brilliantly designed with a lower part count. It is possible. :D

Aye, that requires an extra step. You have to print it twice: Once in white and then once in the desired colour. You can do it on the same sheet, if you line it up perfectly. Or, you can just print it in white and then in the colour and apply the coloured decal on top the white one. The former has a better dhelf life though. :D

Oh, for sure. That's why I felt compelled to add the disclosure. The reviewer also opened thier critique by freely admitting that they're no fan of mechs, so I don't feel they're amiss in any real way. I'd not read this particular review until just now and found it important to add a positive comment to the discussion. I love this set! :D

Aye, I feel this review is a little unduly harsh. This was one of the first sets I grabbed from the movie line, and it's still a favorite. I may have a bit of a bias myself though, as Metalbeard himself was my favorite character in the film. So perhaps I'm just not critical enough? I'm at a bit of a loss as to how the reviewer found him so lacking. :/

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion
klinton replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
OMG! Thank you! That somehow escaped my attention while browsing LEGO products (I'm relatively new to collecting LEGO again, so there is just SO MUCH out there). This was a favorite theme of mine when I was younger. :D -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion
klinton replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'd actually love see the Tiki guy. A new release from that theme with modern prints would be awesome! -
By 'integrity' I mean that you don't have to worry about having grab it carefully lest the structure come apart. LEGO ships I've had in the past weren't near this robust. It's a solid stucture that you can actively 'play' with. If I had kids, I'd have no concerns with allowing them to play with it. :D

There are larger bags (designed for poultry) that fit the magazine sized instruction manuals. My grocer sells them in ten count boxes.

Eurobricks structure, moderating, member involvement and more
klinton replied to SMC's topic in Forum Information and Help
Huh. I actually really appreciate this reply. It's nice to see that social concerns (gender equality, in this case) are an active consideration here, and not just offered token lip service. And on a site devoted to construction toys no less! :D As to the larger subject of this thread, I don't find the moderation here to be at all intrusive. I generally use forums on mobile (where user ranks aren't visible here) and was surprised to see that persons happily chatting along with everyone were, in fact, staff. There's no sense of 'overlording' or any sort of elitism that is common to other forums I've visited. Yet, these boards are generally filled with apt discussion and polite postings. So, whatever you're all doing: keep it up! It's one of my favorite online destinations these days. :D -
Hahaha, right? The goal posts in the this discussion aren't so much being moved with every comment, as it's become increasingly apearent that someone has completely dissassembled them and is now using thier parts for a Hello Kitty MOC. :p I'm quite sure it's safe to associate voice actors like Pratt with Emmet, as despite country/language specific dubbing, the animation was clearly based on his performance. But, this isn't my thread nor my goal posts to define, so I'll leave you all to it. :p

I think your rash judgements stem more from desire than actual critiques of the set. You can't justify the price tag to yourself (yet the part/price ratio is fantastic), and are transposing that confusion into erroneous statements about the set. It is, hands down, the finest set the LEGO Group has produced this year. I too hesitated on pulling the trigger on this one, and scoffed at some of it's more fantastic elements. But it was certainly worth every penny, and then some. It's an amazingly fun build to complete. I actually did it in a single sitting that lasted for about eight hours and resulted in some serious cramping, but I had a tonne of fun, hahaha. It should, and likely does, appeal to any LEGO fan who enjoys the building process. It features such a wide array of techniques that I believe it to be almost entirely unique in LEGO's offerings as an excellent 'tutor' to newer fans. The end product is a solid structure one can actually pick up and manipulate without concern for it's integrity (unlike other large LEGO ships I've had over the years). Benny's Spaceship is an equally fantastic model, but they're two entirely unique experiences. I'd honestly suggest the both to any LEGO fan, as one can't possibly be offered as a 'substitute' for the other. Seriously, pick this one up. It's worth the time and money you'll invest. :D

Does LEGO ever publish designer credits?
klinton replied to klinton's topic in General LEGO Discussion
None of this actually surprises me. When I have spoken to members of the design team, they're generally very modest and down to earth people. It's rather refreshing when compared to comic book creators who often behave like tempermental rock stars. I'm not looking at it from a 'these people should get more credit' POV (that's entirely up to them, should they desire it or not), but merely a personal interest in selecting LEGO kits that are more likely to entertain me. There is something very special about the designs of most of the sets in both the Ultra Agents and LEGO Movie ranges that just isn't present in other LEGO offerings. The builds are very creative and interesting where other sets have felt more mechanical and left me unsatisfied. The finished models look fantastic and demand to be displayed and 'played with' (very important, hahaha), where other sets have been torn down and parted out within hours of my having completed them. -
Aye, Jason is fully more of a 'prodigal son' than an enemy these days. He's def on the side of the angels, and not a villain. I haven't seen the images though, so I literally just tossed out some blind speculation there based on the description 'Hulk' had given. It's hardly worth arguing about. We'll see soon enough. :D

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
klinton replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'd actually purchased it, in anticipation of seeing the film believe it or not. I was super stoked for a Gamora minifig. I can't support anything about the movie though. It's the antithesis of everything I love about these characters and the comics from which they (supposedly) came. There was far too much spitting on the source material for my tastes. This is a larger discussion that doesn't really belong in this thread though. And, really, the best set for 2014 is a full tie between Benny's Spaceship and Metalbeard's Sea Cow. Both were absolute masterpieces that were insanely fun to build and fun models to 'play' with (I actually have the Spaceship sitting next to me, having just picked it off the shelf to swoosh it around a bit and fidget with the pop-out wings feature, hahaha). I really wish LEGO would put half the effort into thier superhero sets as they did with those two. I'm not all that worried about Pietro's hair. The beautiful thing about LEGO is that you can just switch the piece out, hahaha. :p If it's incorrect, I think Magneto's hair from the X-men set will work fine. I actually expect to have to do this anyhow, as I'm thinking he'll have 'floppy' hair, when Pietro has always had a very distinct hairstyle resembling that part rather closely. :D -
It's 40$ CAD. I don't know what it is in other countries? I think it's actually a tiny bit cheaper if you buy it at Walmart (it's a Walmart exclusive) instead of the LEGO Store. I think it rang up at 34$ or something? I remember it being less than what I'd expected at any rate.

Oooh! Thank you Faefrost! That's pretty much exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. :D -
40$, you say? Get the 'Flying Flusher' from the Lego Movie set! It's a really fun build and who doesn't need a plumbing van for their city? :D

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
klinton replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
You are clearly a man of great taste (I saw your Batman comment in the DC thread just now too, hahaha)! I have a little bit of hope that she'll be sporting a red ensemble and her signature headpiece by the end of the film (and, thus, in all merchandise too). After seeing what abominations Marvel is willing to pass off as their charcters in the GotG film though, I'm a bit concerned. *crossy mcfingers* -
Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
klinton replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
I am SO completely stoked for a LEGO Vision! You have no idea. He's full my favorite Marvel character. :D I'm excited for Wanda too, albeit slightly less so as I'm no fan of her movie look (second only to her terribad costume from the final issues of WCA and her miniseries). If LEGO doesn't include him in a set I'll be completely gutted. -
I'm actually so completely tired of Batman. I'd rather see them produce something fun that's not Batman related. A Watchtower set. Or some (non Bat related) villain's lair. Or even an old school 'Hall of Justice'. I would literally sell my own grandma to get LEGO to release an Amazon temple set with Hipolyta and Phillipus minifigs! Anything not associated with Batman would make me happy. I get that Batman sells and everything...but, ugh. Enough. I'm actually growing annoyed that I'm having to buy increasingly stupid Batman vehicles just to get other characters. I feel the same way about the comics too, actually. I full cringe every time he shows up in stories outside of his own books....which is all the time, hahahaha. :p
