  1. I regret not buying some of these sets at the time. I remember eyeing them and thinking they were fantastic structures. I wasn't collecting LEGO at the time, and have no love for Harry Potter in general. The 'Diagon Alley'(sp?) and 'Hogwarts' castles were lovely buildings though.
  2. This is the good thing about LEGO though. None of it is a waste of money, as the parts can be repurposed and used in other ways for other structures. I'm actually not complaining or anything. I'll buy the Avengers II sets without any hesitation and fully enjoy my purchases. I was merely being matter of fact, in that I don't much care if they produce a set for the 'Avengers Tower' or not. It's just 'spare parts and 'Avengers minifigs' as far as I'm concerned. Hahaha. :D
  3. He's not. He's the 'Robin' guy tied up in the 'red helmet'. Or, so I'm assuming. But, it's just an assumption, of course. :D
  4. I love those videos! Which is saying something, as I generally avoid video commentaries (a personal averison of mine). But, yeah, that's more in line with what I'm after...but a more comprehensive database where I can browse LEGO sets by designer. I have a hunch a complete list just doesn't exist, but even a resource where I can cobble the information myself from would be awesome! :D
  5. For the same reasons people purchase paintings they didn't paint and statues they didn't sculpt? It's a lovely sculpture that I can imagine would interest a lot of people: fans of space themes, LEGO, whimsy...or any combination thereof. It's really just a matter of finding someone with enough disposable income to whom this piece appeals. It'd by no means be a casual purchase. This would be a buy akin to furnishing or artwork. It's a matter of realizing that it would be absolutely perfect in that one corner of your den, and psyche yourself to the point where you 'need' to have it. Hahaha.
  6. I'm wondering if the LEGO Group ever produces a list of the designers behind each set? It never occurred to me before to inquire until recently when someone pointed out on here that the Lego Movie sets and the Ultra Agents sets shared the same design team. I'd been enjoying both lines (as opposed to other sets that weren't working for me), and it suddenly made perfect sense why. So, I was wondering if there's a way to learn who was behind various sets and look for more of their work when I'm shopping. Obviously, you can eyeball aesthetics that appeal to you in the finished model, but I'm thinking more about the actual building techniques used in the build.
  7. I'm really excited to hear that they're continuing the line! This is currently my favorite LEGO line. :D
  8. Fair enough. Perhaps my own wording was a little too strong as well. Sorry about that. A more honest way of expressing what I was trying to say would be that I'm not literally 'offended' by them so much as I'm averse to products that are not actually LEGO. It might not even be rational, in all actuality. I just don't like the idea of mixing other parts that don't belong. I'm the same way with everything though, not only LEGO. Like, there's a company that makes accessories and vehicles scaled for GI Joe and I'll have none of it among my own collection. Authenticity is rather imoprtant to me, and clone bricks (no matter the quality level or 'cool' factor) would just annoy my sensibilities. Not that there's anything intrinsically wrong with the products themselves nor the companies that make them. So, yeah, you were perhaps correct in calling me out there. My original post was rather abrasive, looking at it again. :D
  9. I passed on the GotG sets (I'm, like, the only person in the universe who absolutely hated the film, hahaha), so I can't speak for those. The only superhero builds I actually like are the X-men Blackbird from the Sentinel set and the Hydra tank from the Cap/Red Skull set. The rest (and I have scads of these) are all just 'parts'. The actual structures, like buildings and room sets, are all rubbish. They all feel incomplete and flimsy and look ridiculous on the shelf next to sets from other lines.
  10. It's moments like this when one realizes their place in the economic strata, eh? Hahaha. That would be an amazing piece to own (seriously: just imagine that in your den or office! It's all class, yet still 'fun'), but it's much to large a price tag to even begin to try and justify spending on LEGO. :p
  11. It's probably Jason then? Hopefully! He's my favorite current Bat-character. Red Hood and the Outlaws is a brilliant book. Although, I'd really want a Starfire and Arsenal figures then too. Hahaha. :p
  12. It's actually in my will that my collections (plural, including things like comic books, action figures, and other non-LEGO stuff) go to the Children's Hospital. They can (if they so desire) sell off any that might be of value, and any less profitable items can find a more direct use by their unfortunate patrons. I had to inquire if they would accept such a donation prior to including this clause though (at my solicitors insistance), as not all organizations are open to these sorts of donations.
  13. I don't actually much care what the sets themselves are. Is that weird? Superhero sets are 90% crap builds with some amazing minifigs. So an 'Avengers Tower' set is just going to be some tacky shell, riddled with crippling play features. It'll be ugly and akward, and end up as spare parts. As long as I get Wanda, Vision and Ultron minifigs though, I'm all over this line! :D
  14. I actually dislike the use of 'flesh' coloured minifigs. It's super annoying when you see an interesting face print, before it registers that it's not yellow. It limits the use of parts in an unnecessary manner. I have no issue with minifigs of people who's skin is darker getting appropriately coloured pieces though. In fact, I'd encourage more of this. Vitruvius, for example, wouldn't have the same feel if he were yellow. I'm slowly getting used to 'flesh' colours mingling with the little yellow guys, but I'd rather everyone who's skin might be white in a real life equivalent be rendered in the traditional yellow.
  15. I just put them in ziploc freezer bags, sorted by theme. They're all in a filing box (only one, so far). They're easy to find this way, as you just pull out the appropriate bag(s) to find the booklet you're after, rather than having to look through everything. I suppose if you have a tonne of City or something you'd need to develope more specific categories for each bag to narrow down a search.
  16. I suppose it was the Superheroes sets? Not really though. I was buying the sets that featured minifigs of favorite characters, but the builds themselves never really excited me (all of which live disassembled in ziploc bags now). This year's LEGO Movie sets though really got my attention and dragged me back into collecting and (more importanly) enjoying LEGO. I started with the Cloud Cuckoo Palace set, as it was pretty cheap and featured the characters you saw in all the adverts. After seeing the film I grabbed a few more to get some more favorite characters, and realized that I was really enjoying the actual sets (right?). They have fun, diverse builds and finished models that I couldn't stop picking up and 'playing' with. Once the film was released on Blu-ray, I kinda went off and decided I had to have them all. I bought a couple sets every Friday until I ran out of movie sets to buy. I'd gotten so accustomed to my weekend LEGO building now (in the space of a couple of months, hahaha) that I decided to keep going. I'm currently collecting the Ultra Agents line (also amazing!), but am fast running out of sets to get. I'm actually kind of worried about what I'll do when I've run out of Agents sets to get. Chima looks to have some interesting, imaginative builds...but I have no love for the little animal people.
  17. I hope the line continues as a staple for them. Granted, there is a finite number of models they can produce, based on what was actually on the screen. New wacky citizen concoctions from across LEGO's various themes can always be created from scratch. And new micromanger models! I honestly can't remember the last time I've enjoyed collecting a toy line so much. Every single set in the line is was fun to build, and looks great on a shelf. I'm pretty much fiending for the upcoming wave at this point (although, Ultra Agents has proven a decent distraction). :D
  18. I've literally just gotten back into LEGO (for more than collecting Superhero minifigs). So right now, I'm still kind of learning the ropes and sticking to the instructions. I've gotten to the point though where I have a bunch of models and sets, but it's not 'enough'. So I'm acquiring extra parts to build environs for these things and experimenting with building techniques I see online. So, I suppose I'm a 'collector'...but all of my kits are purchased for the sake of opening and building (hoarding MIB sets seems absurd to me), with only the finest finished models remaining as intended, and others being culled for parts.
  19. You have to go to the LEGO Store to buy those items. They're exclusive to the LEGO Store. You can order them from the online store though too, eh?
  20. I'm not sure what you're offended by? OP asked for our opinions, and I gave mine. It's obviously different from your own, but it was in no way a personal attack on you or anyone else. I like the LEGO system. I like to build with LEGO bricks. I like the designs that the LEGO Group produces. I feel that what other clone products have to offer is of no interest to me. It's inferior in every aspect that I find appealing about LEGO. This is but my opinion, as requested by the OP. If yours is different, that's awesome for you. I'm not offended that you don't share my opinion, and I'd expect the same of you. Cheers.
  21. Aye. That was the idea, but I don't know but one person locally who collects LEGO. I thought to eBay my extras, but I cannot compete with American sellers due to the high cost of Canada Post. Hahaha.
  22. I find the concept offensive, to be honest. It just seems to me to be unseemly to attempt to copy such an original idea, and cannot fathom supporting these other companies. I've not looked at thier wares in any depth, but I'd imagine there isn't near as much precision as you see with the LEGO system, where every part is 100% compatible with every other.
  23. I think we only have one castle here in Québec, the Château Frontenac. It kind of fits your desctiption?
  24. Awesome! Hopefully he'll be popping up on eBay from Canadian sellers then. I still need him! :D
  25. Heh. I remember playing this game in a level of Tomb Raider. I actually recall the rules and objective, as it took me forever to figure it out. :D
