*taptaptap* January can't come soon enough. I'm absolutely fiending for new movie sets. Hahaha. -
survey Picture versus Video Reviews
klinton replied to Bonaparte's topic in Forum Information and Help
I have an odd aversion to watching people play with toys that I want, so video reviews drive me up the wall. They actually annoy me to the point of getting physically agitated. I have a friend who seriously doesn't understand this and is always clicking open vids to show me of sets that he's hyped on. I kind of resent when I Google reviews for a set that I'm considering and all I can find is videos. Hahaha. Give me some clean, crisp images from various angles. I don't even care if you don't have much to say (as I find a lot of the waxing 'filler' chatter in written reviews completely unnecessary). I just want to see the assembled set. One thing I do wish LEGO reviewers were more inclined to do is to post ensemble or comparison pics with similar sets or other sets in the same series. I'm accustomed to action figure reviewers where this is common practice. It kind of gives you a feel for how the set will fit with your own collection. All told, the reviews on Eurobricks are top notch. That's what brought me here initially. I actively include the word 'eurobricks' in my Google searches for reviews. :D -
Has LEGO released a mech larger than this? Until I'd built this one, I kind of assumed that they had a pretty standard size for thier mech creations, with all seeming to follow a pretty similar construct. I'm full curious to see how they'd handle even larger creations. This one seems to cap out the limits of feasability. It's just stable enough that it's all good (with a little wobble, but nothing detrimental or off putting), but I think if it were any larger it'd be a teetering mess.

Each one has a full 'personality' to it, which is kind of amazing given the fact that they're all just little black boxes. Hahaha. I can't wait to see more in January! I kinda tried my hand at making new ones, but I've no skill for it. There are some great designs that pop up when you Google them though. :D

I'm not quite sure I understand the issue. Collecting Lego is an expensive hobby. It just is. It's not for the faint of heart or those of extremely limited disposable income. If someone is railing against not wanting to shell out a couple hundred dollars for a minifig (or whatever it goes for) to complete thier collection...said collection has already set them back several hundreds - or, likely thousands - of dollars to acquire all the requisite kits. They can obtain these promo items, but choose not to re-allocate the necessary funds. None of this is about life giving air or food. It's about a hobby. Actively collecting something is not always as simple as going to your local shoppe and buying up the new product. There are going to be 'grails' to hunt, wait, and likely spend for. You, as the collector willing to spend on any other set, need to decide if these bits are important to your 'collection'. If so, then firgure out how to obtain it. If not, then move along to the next bit. This LEGO Group is attracting attention to thier brand with these promos. Like it or not from your own personal 'collection' point of view, it's a postive action on thier part. It createes excitement and, most importantly, desire for the product.

Buying Lego in Germany - tax refund?
klinton replied to sarusaru's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
He doesn't live in Germany. He lives in Thailand. He's to 'live' in Germany for the next few months. I don't think that makes him a citizen. -
Aye, he's my favorite too! He's full adorable. He's not really any more 'film accurate' than any other though. He's really short. Like, about 2/3 the height of the ones in the 'Rescue Reinforcements' and 'Metalbeard' sets. :D
-
Honestly, the minifigs alone make this set a must buy. Seriously. The ship itself is pretty nifty too, but I'll admit it's not my favorite. I may have OD'd on the whimsy in the Movie sets though to truly appreciate it at the moment. But if it's appealing to you, don't hesitate! It's a nice little set. :D

It's actually my favorite way to build! I've a flat surface for the build itself (I think it was meant for using a laptop? It's a cushion on one side and a hard surface on top...), and there's tons of space to sort out your parts within easy reach. The only downside is getting up and down while you're building. If you hop up, parts fly everywhere. So you have to carefully stand up or sit back in. Hahaha.
-
Hehehe. I fully just assemble them at my desk or on my bed (with a surface for the build), depending on the mood or how long the build takes. I don't really have a 'space' yet. I've only really started actively collecting Lego this year (with only 43 sets), so I'm not overly 'organized' nor innundated to the point of requiring anything more sophisticated. Extra bits and/or dissassembled sets are all in ziploc bags, in three boxes that live in a closet.

Awesome! Thanks for all of the info! :D

Right now? It's blue wedges and tan plates. :p

...but what are the little black guys? Is there one in every pack? What's thier story? I bought one of these (Slumbo) in order to aquire his gem (for Vitruvius' staff), and while the Mixel character himself does nothing for me (outside of providing some always desirable light blue parts), this little black thing is freaking adorable! I'm just kinda wondering what thier deal is. :D

How does one apply MEK "glue" to bricks?
klinton replied to badbob001's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Did...did the Lego Movie mean nothing to you? Hahaha. Poor, poor Kragled Lego pieces. :p -
That actually totally makes sense. I picked up a couple of these because I loved the designs. I've been loving on the Movie sets (to the point of obsession, hahaha), and started grabbing these when I ran out of Movie sets to buy. I love this series! :D

Future The LEGO Movie Sets - Wishlist
klinton replied to Sir Brickalot's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That doesn't preclude it's eventual release though. At the time, it wasn't scheduled for release (and the comentary was recorded in...May? Just after the release of the Sea Cow, at any rate). I'd imagine it's more of a licencing thing than any lack of interest from Lego. Perhaps the Batmobile can/will see release in a Batman set, and not a movie set? :D -
2015 The LEGO Movie rumors and discussion
klinton replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It may be a 'rumor', but it's not grounded in any sort of truth. I've been hounding Matt for an Invisible Plane set since the release of 6862. He's assured me that there will be no Wonder Woman themed sets (in fact, her inclusion in 6862 was only at his insistence to get her made at all). Perhaps her viability as a selling point will change in the future with her higher profile in the upcoming Superman/Batman movie? At this moment though, there isn't any plan on the table for a Wonder Woman themed set unfortunately. :( -
That actually sounds like a pretty reasonable price. Not 'zomg amazing', but reasonable.

That's not true at all. There is, sadly, no invisible jet on the horizon. It'd be awesome though, eh? -
LEGO Minecraft (Minfigure Scale) 2014 Rumors and Discussion
klinton replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That doesn't really change the fact that these look like rubbish though. You would, in all honesty, get more bang for your buck filling a couple of PAB cups and building something yourself. The Minecraft micro sets were a stroke of genius. They captured the look and feel of the game perfectly. These...look like something I might have slapped together when I was five. All that poster was saying was that in a market where we're accustomed to elaborate building techniques and interesting pieces, these look fully plain. A modular might set you back 200$, but it'll deliver more bang for your buck than ten of these sets. But, to each thier own. I full understand one's analytical judgement being coloured by a pure love of the game. I'm the same way with other things (and am at a loss as to how people can't see the beauty, hahaha). /shrug. -
I'm not sure. If Lego continues to retire sets, they will always retain a certain amount of collectibility. Will they be as 'hot' as they are right now? I doubt it. Lego is in a bit of a spotlight right now, and people are being all 'Beanie Baby' about it. The inflated secondary market won't last, but the collectibility will remain. :D

2015 The LEGO Movie rumors and discussion
klinton replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Aye, this is what I think it will be. Either a submarine build, or else a 'scene' from the interior of the sub, with play features (and, of course, the couch). I'd assume it'll be a mid range set, with the various characters aboard the sub, and sad Kitty. I can't imagine it would be anything else? The couch didn't appear anywhere else besides inside the sub and the resuce by Metalbeard. We've already got the rescue scene (with Queasy Kitty) included with the Sea Cow. This will fully be somehow related to the submarine. I just don't think it'll be a build of the entire craft. -

I'd actually be horrified to see Unikitty looming behind me in traffic. I don't imagine she handles road rage well...hahaha! :p
