It's a nice church façade. I like the steeple and stained glass window, and the patches of snow on the ground are a very nice effect. I also like that you have brought another religion into the game to balance against Oleon's Faith.

Thanks. The color scheme did turn out quite nice. And I always try to use the striping to accentuate the curves. And thanks re the photography; it was tricky getting some of those deck detail shots. Thanks! I would have liked to get some more ornamentation into the stern, but it didn't work out. I struggle with stern decoration on my ships. Admittedly it is a small class 7, but still a class 7. I think it is a touch longer than the Alajandro da Vargas, but more importantly it has more decks, and larger decks above the main gun deck at that. It also compares favorably with my existing class 7 La Contessa.

Guilder understood the self-serving sentiment, but the ETWC's vote still surprised him. Guilder eyed Guelds in a new light for a moment, then addressed the whole council. "By a vote of 16-2, the motion to hold a special election for the Prio Seas delegation has been approved. Campaigns may commence immediately, to be concluded by February 4. At that time we shall finally have all of colonial Eslandola represented in this council."

With only one ship larger than class 6 active in the Eslandolan Navy, shipbuilders throughout the islands have been put to work. In Weelond, the new class 7 flagship of the Sea of Storms fleet is finally ready to sail. Her name, Espada de Luna (“Sword of Luna”), and figurehead pay tribute to her duty as a warship and to the deity favored by mariners in the Church of the Two Coins. On the fo’c’sle, a lieutenant oversees crewmen tending to the mainstay. At the waist of the ship, another lieutenant oversees crewmen securing one of the cannons. On the quarterdeck, Captain de Flynt discusses matters with Lieutenant Jacobs. A member of the rigging crew up in the top mast pauses for a moment to take in a view of the deck below. The large stern gallery is topped by artwork of a raised sword against a crescent moon. And so Espada de Luna is ready to take her place in Eslandola’s fleet. --- This has been sitting on my shelf for a couple of months, and I finally finished up the rigging and sails. As always, all C&C welcome.

"Very good" said Guilder. "It appears this matter will pass, but will it be unanimous? We need only hear from (@Garmadon and) the ETWC delegation. Agent Guelds, how do you and your compatriots vote on this issue?"

Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Capt Wolf replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I think these (above) are good guidelines. These I think are off a bit, in large part because of the point you make about some ships being longer or looking bigger. I'm not sure why my ships look bigger, but my class 6 Prince Fernando is 3-1/2 mids plus a custom stern, and my class 7 La Contessa is only 4 mids plus a custom stern. I also think it's very difficult to build anything larger than a class 7 on prefabs, as the proportions begin to get out of balance. I think it would be best if we kept these as only guidelines, not hard and fast rules. If anything, we need to add more visual examples to the ship class guide. I've always thought this from day one. I've always thought the Margot is a better example of a class 8 than a class 7. Going by "historical standards", this would be a fifth rate ship. By the BotBS standards this should be a class 7 in my opinion. Your ship looks very close to the Margot shown there. And while I can see why some would put this as class 7, I can see why others would say it is a class 8. i would support it as a class 8. Call it a small class 8 if you want, but still a class 8. -

My entry: The Charity of Luna -
The Church of Sol and Luna is a duotheistic religion that worships gods represented by the sun and the moon. Sometimes it is referred to as the Church of Two Coins, as Sol or the sun is represented by a gold coin and Luna or the moon is represented by a silver coin. Sol is highly regarded by farmers who depend on the sun for their crops to grow. Mariners tend to favor Luna, who controls the tides and provides the stars for navigation. While the assignment of a gold coin for Sol and a silver coin for Luna would appear to slight Luna, the two gods are of equal importance; the occasional eclipse is Luna’s way of reminding worshippers of that. Those from outside Eslandola might be shocked to learn that a principle teaching of the church is charity, as one should give thanks for each gold piece Sol provides by giving away a silver piece to honor Luna. While increased giving frequently occurs after an eclipse, the main holiday of giving occurs at the first full moon after the winter solstice. It is considered one of the holiest nights of the year in the church, honoring Luna and the charity she inspires. In the days between the solstice and the full moon, followers donate to local charities. On the night of the full moon -- Merrynight -- followers give presents to the needy and help feed the hungry. As a church member, Governor Guilder faithfully gives to the needy. With the full moon of Merrynight rising in the sky, Guilder, decked out in a green holiday suit, is busy at the Weelond orphanage. He has already delivered a large roasting bird and other food for a big holiday meal, and now he has a wagon full of more food supplies -- and other surprises for the orphans. Guilder directs his helpers to unload the wagon while, because he doesn’t want to flaunt his charity work publicly, he puts on a cap and fake beard to hide his identity from the kids. Inside, while some of the kids are still eating, the disguised Guilder hands out presents! The head mistress of the orphanage can’t recall seeing the children so happy, and is grateful the governor believes in the charity of Luna this Merrynight. --- The full build: Some additional pictures:

"Excellent!" exclaimed Guilder. "Seeing as how there appears to be strong agreement on this proposal from a majority of the delegations, need for extended debate is limited. As representative of the Sea of Storms, I will second the call for a vote. And as Admius Legistrad, I recognize that a vote has been called and seconded. The proposal is as follows." Proposed: That Eslandola shall hold a special election for the Prio Seas delegation to the Colonial Council, with campaigns to run through February 4. "Each member of each delegation may vote Yea or Nay on this matter." ------------ Aaron van der Meede stood from the Sea of Storms delegation. "I vote Yea on this proposal." New council member Pieter Reyngout, also of the Sea of Storms delegation, then stood as well. "And in my first action as a member of this council, I too vote Yea on the proposal." Reyngout and van der Meede both sat back down, and Guilder spoke once more. "In my capacity as member of the Sea of Storms delegation, I also vote Yea! Let all regions be represented fully in this council!"

Lots of good characters here, Garm! You've done a great job with continuing the theme. I especially like blacksmith (the moustache is perfect for this character), coachman (great face), royal guard, and raiding sea rat (especially his grenade!). But they're all very well put together. Someone above said that they are down-to-earth for the most part, and I agree. Great job with the parrot (I was wondering how you attached it, which I see has been answered above). Fantastic job all around!

The council hall was filled with the murmur of multiple conversations, when ... WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! ... Willem Guilder pounded his gavel to get everyone's attention. "Welcome, members of the 2nd Colonial Council. We have some new members this year, and the independent traders are finally represented, with the election of Commodore Hammish Grei and his associates." Guilder motioned to their delegation, and Grei, Lady Valentia Cantoni, and Viscount Alexander Doblin each stood and waved briefly to their fellow council members. "And although we proceeded with business last year without representatives for the independent traders, I think we were not our best for it. So this year, when I look at the empty table where the Prio Seas representatives should be seated, I feel we must do something about it." Guilder looked around and saw nods of agreement from members of various delegations with whom he had broached this subject privately. "I know that there were people interested in running for the Prio Seas seats, and for various reasons their campaigns were unable to commence before the election deadline. Thus, for our first item of business this session, I propose that we hold a special election for the Prio Seas delegation, with campaigns to run through February 4, so that we can finally have a full and proper Colonial Council." "Does anyone second this motion so we can begin debate?"

[META] A quick overview of the map
Capt Wolf replied to Mesabi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I'm staying out of the size/scale discussion and am just going to say that it's neat to have this map comparison to provoke some thought. Thanks for creating it! -
Nice little build. I like the wall and the shelves, and the general office detail. But I really like the leaking chest! It reminds me of another RP game I played a long time ago, when my character was forced to hide a dead body in a crate marked "body parts".

The sloop Mysterious Lady, aka the Gypsy
Capt Wolf replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks. I had to go dark tan; otherwise it'd just be a big brown blob! Thanks. Re colors, I wanted to use the sand green on a ship. As for the bow, I played around with other options (hinged plates and bricks, etc.) but didn't find a combination that worked. It's a small space. (Actually, I did find a potential alternative, but don't have the pieces in the right colors. So I may have a revised bow in the future.) Thanks! It took some experimenting to get a color scheme with the sand green that worked, and I am quite pleased with how the grates look. I love that I can remove them and pose figures partially in the hold. -

Very nice! Very clean, and another great example of your style. Good use of varied greens in the foreground of the first pic. I like the barred window and the fence. Good fig posing, as usual. All around great job. And another crane! It's crane month at BoBS! -

[ESL] Council campaign: On to Bardo!
Capt Wolf replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks! Since Guilder was running for the Sea of Storms seat, I thought I had to have a campaign stop in Bardo. Thanks. I always enjoy it when I need to copy someone else's style or specific builds to look right in a setting of their creation. It's a nice change of pace, and one of the things I enjoy about BoBS. I think Guilder and Montoya are probably more alike than either of them cares to admit. COR-ESL relations should be fine. But we haven't heard from Montoya in awhile, have we not? Is he going to make it back soon?- 4 replies

The sloop Mysterious Lady, aka the Gypsy
Capt Wolf replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks. By panels, do you mean the hatch covers? They're 1x1 bricks upside down on a 4x4 plate. Thanks both! The goal here was just a clean little ship, fully tiled, and playable. -
Launched from the docks of Bardo is this old merchant sloop, the Mysterious Lady. She has seen a lot of ports and a lot of owners in her day, a frequent traveler among the islands of the Sea of Storms. She is affectionately referred to as "The Gypsy" by her crew. Now purchased by Willem Guilder and refurbished, she is ready to sail again. Hurrying to get underway, the crew is still busy getting things in order, even after setting for sea. Cargo still needs to be stored below decks. At least the sails are set properly, and the men can come down. The captain has the helm on the quarter deck. The cargo is now stored away, and the hatches are closed. The "Gypsy" sails to her new destination, a new lease on life. To be licensed as a class 3 trader. She is very similar to my Lady of Madrice. As always, all C&C welcome.

[ESL - FB] The Storm might have passed...
Capt Wolf replied to Legostone's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
For now, my need for a crane has passed, as I built a simpler design. But I'll get back to it eventually. I don't think I have the pieces for the treadmill itself at the moment. -
