Kings Port Advertiser and Ship List New Terra’s independent source for shipping news. February-March 618. Vol 3, Issue 2 PIRATE PURGE II BEGINS! Infamous Pirate Gregory Decker Captured! The combined anti-piracy efforts of Corrington and Eslandola got off to a slow start this past month, so it is Oleon who gets our headline with the capture of the pirate Gregory Decker and his ships Executioner and Poisoned Peach. The longtime scourge of the Brick Seas was caught near Baskers Island by an Oleon squadron led by HRS Pride of Oleon and including HRS Combattante, and Licorne. The squadron sailed into the Mardierian capital of Londa with Decker’s two ships in tow. We await word on how soon the pirate may be hanged after the trial. From Nova Terreli: Sea Rats Gain Upper Hand on Joint Corrington-Eslandola Efforts From Nova Terreli we have bad news for Eslandola naval efforts. A joint Corrington-Eslandola squadron was decimated by the Sea Rats’ Komodo Dragon squadron in the Sea of Thieves. From the crews of Corrington’s WTC Judgement and Eslandola’s Cardinal’s Shadow we hear that Eslandola’s Mercury went to Davy Jones’ Locker, and that Eslandola’s Thunder was captured. Reports from Bastion confirm that the Thunder was indeed captured. We have yet to hear what arrangements may be made for the crew. Further bad news from Nova Terreli: Eslandola ship Wringe II did not arrive as expected. We have no report on ship or crew, but all are assumed lost. Oleon Tangles with Bluebeard In more news from Nova Terreli, Oleon ships HRS Tonnant and HRS Ardent sailed into port with Bluebeard’s Blue Bayou in tow. Word from the Oleon crews is that they also damaged the pirate flagship Blue Dagger before the bearded one escaped. From Jameston: Corrington vs LeColeon: You Win Some, You Lose Some Our man in Jameston reports that the trade ships Belson and Dancing Dogfish were set upon by two of LeColeon’s ships, but the Corrie crews got the better of them, capturing the Black Star and damaging the Golden Trident. Despite the belief that Black Star is LeColeon’s flagship, he was not aboard it when captured. Did he manage to escape on the Golden Trident, or was he elsewhere? We ask, because … … Our man in Charlatan Bay reports that LeColeon’s Silent Shadow sailed into port with the captured Corrington ship Supreme. We hear the Corrie crew is safe and under lock and key until ransom arrangements can be made. ZvW Gives Corrington a Scare We hear in additional reports from Jameston that ETTC ship Golden Filly narrowly escaped capture at the hands of pirate Zublius Von Wreck. The attack happened somewhere between Calisto and Freeport, but the crew of Golden Filly managed to elude ZvW’s Ghost Harvester and Hades’ Hangman. More Sea Rats / Corrington Diplomacy In Our Future Stop us if you’ve heard a story similar to this before. On second thought, don’t -- we need to sell papers! Last month a Sea Rat squadron attacked an Eslandola trade fleet and then sailed into the Eslandolan port of Fuerte Unido. That encounter appears to have been resolved with the Peregrine -- a ship lost by the Greenies in the Battle of the Five Fleets -- being returned to Eslandola. This month our very busy man in Jameston reports that a Sea Rat squadron sailed into port with the Palmetto included in their numbers. Those of you who pay attention to our monthly reports might recognize the Palmetto as a trade ship out of Prio. Under normal circumstances, the Sea Rat crews might be able to explain how they came to have the ship, but these are not normal circumstances. According to the crews of the Peacock and the Pearl, two other Prio trade ships that sailed into Jameston at the same time, the Prio trio was set upon by the Dark Narwhal, The Drunken Monkey, and Misfortune’s Wrath somewhere in the vicinity of Trador. They claim the Sea Rats stole the Palmetto, and damage to the Peacock certainly supports the claim that they were attacked. We understand Prio representatives have petitioned the mayor of Jameston to seize not just the Palmetto, but all the Sea Rat ships involved in the attack. How Corrington will react is anyone’s guess, but it looks like we’re in for another round of Corrington-Sea Rat diplomacy! From Elsewhere Around the Brick Seas: Harrison Torn Victorious Against Oleon From Baskers Island we hear that Harrison Torn has dropped off the crew of the Oleon ship The Athena before proceeding to sail the ship off with a prize crew. Torn’s three-ship fleet apparently made quick work of The Athena, and the crew claims they had no choice but to lower their colors. We wonder if leaders of the Faith will have anything to say about this defeat when the crew returns home. Montroy Attacks From Port Woodhouse we have reports from the crew of the Corrish ship Satyr that they narrowly escaped the clutches of feared pirate Montroy shortly after leaving Mooreton Bay. We have no other details on the encounter at this time. Sea Rats Suffer Defeat at Hands of Terraversan Traders From Astrapi we hear that a Terraversan trade squadron sailed into port with the Sea Rat ship FTA The Gargoyle. Crews of the armed escorts Typhoon and Tiger were telling the tale in taverns all across town. They claim to have been attacked by the Sea Rats northwest of Nova Terreli and, in addition to capturing FTA The Gargoyle, damaged the King Archibald before driving off it and the Corporal Milton, HMS Pendragon, and Vagabond King. TRADE NEWS Eslandola Trade Fleet Sails Into Mardierian Capital A month after Mardier sailed a trade fleet into the port of Weelond, the Eslandolans responded in kind, sailing a six-ship squadron led by the galleon Espada de Luna into the Mardierian capital of Londa. We understand that the squadron was supposed to be even more impressive, but the Sleeping Siren II developed problems en route and was diverted to Arlinsport. The Mardierian visit to Weelond passed without incident last month; we’ll see how the Greenies fare in Londa this month. Happy Merchant Crews, or Hit ‘Em Where They Ain’t Our man in Kieg reports that the crew of the Eslandolan ship Triunfo is spending freely in the local taverns after an exceptionally good run. Profits appear to have been so high because the Triunfo was the only trade ship to visit Kieg this month, so the locals were willing to pay well above market price for her cargo. From Granoleon we hear a similar tale about the crews of the visiting Altonian trade squadron. Oleon’s port taxes appear to be creating a seller’s market for those willing to visit Bluecoat ports. The Oleon capital was amazingly devoid of incoming ships this month, and merchants were overbidding for the few cargos that came in. But from Breshaun we hear that the port taxes are working as intended. With only Oleon ships visiting the port, Malto Express and Fleur Verte raked in huge profits. Given that Malto Express is owned by the RNTC, we’re curious to see how the directors hide these profits in the next financial report. Nova Terreli was bustling this month, with approximately three dozen ships calling on the Eslandian port. It should be noted that more than a third of those did not appear to be trade ships, however. But the heavy traffic seems to have kept trading profits down this month. Finally, we have a couple reports of happy Eslandolan crews in Prinport and Terreli. The crew of Filo Morado was spending big after they were one of only two trade ships to call there this month. And the crew of the Green Winds III turned a tidy profit in Terreli amidst modest traffic to the Eslandian capital. PAGE 2 Corrington Officials Lose Minds, Grant WTC Charter Word from the rapidly growing city of Mesabi Landing is that Corrish officials have granted the WTC request for official Trade Company status. When Queen Annetta hears of this, we suspect somebody’s head will roll! Construction Subsidies to Be Had In Bastion It has come to our attention that Captain Rodsh Derr (@Bart) has offered to pay half the construction costs for two commercial buildings and three factories in Bastion. Contractors in Bastion looking to take advantage of this offer should contact Captain Derr directly. Sailing Panther Sir Mowgli’s “house cat” Bagheera is still at large and the three chests reported as a reward in last month’s KPA remain unclaimed. So far the only leads come from rumors of a large black cat last seen riding a raft with a small sail. No one can say what happened to the original raft riders or where the panther encountered the raft, but the cat was last seen “sailing” its raft past Poorvintia. [ESL A-MRCA] Expedition to the New Haven Sea
Capt Wolf replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks. When you posted that initial story, I knew exactly how I was going to use it. Thanks. It's definitely time to get to these islands. I have an Age of Exploration itch I need to scratch! And I'm excited to finally get into the A-MRCA for myself. And the room goes along nicely with Guilder's office. Eventually I'll have the entire interior of his residence! Thank you. I like that candlestick too, so I had to work one in. And I reused the door design from my council hall MOC. Thanks. I wanted to do something other than the normal Lego window. I stole the basic hat rack design from someone, but I don't recall where.- 49 replies

[ESL] Dressing up for King's Harbour
Capt Wolf replied to Elostirion's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
What a clever build! I love it. Great way to display outfits. Very fun! Good use of bars and connectors to keep the support rods narrow. And is the sagging effect of the hangar beams intentional? If so, nicely done, and nice attention to detail! And the SNOT floor give a nice spacing effect for the floor boards. As for guessing what they will wear, I'll guess #6 for Román and #11 for Clarissa.- 9 replies

Thanks! That was a fun and challenging part of the build. Thanks. And I had the exact same thoughts regarding the stripe/hull colors after I started. If I can get my hands on a black top piece without destroying my existing gray hulls, I definitely want to try that. Thanks. I don't know what to call them, either. Ribs? But they really help give the ship its shape. I was happy with the effect. And thanks for your photo suggestions. Next step is to upgrade my jury-rigged light box.

Willem Guilder stood before the table and carefully spread open a group of maps on the table. The maps were well aged, and he handled them with care. “Gentlemen, a few months ago, Commodore Hammish Grei shared with me some very interesting maps that had come into the possession of the Crahaish neh Triuri.” “The Crahaish neh Triuri?” interrupted Philip Janszen, captain of the Far Horizon. “Yes, I know," replied Guilder immediately, before Janszen could continue. "Don’t get me started.” Guilder composed himself a bit as he regained his train of thought. “These maps are more than 250 years old, and they describe a group of islands surrounding a sea far to the east. After some time spent studying the maps, the Crahaish were able to identify Corrington’s Celestia and Oleon’s Ile d’Or on this map.” Guilder pointed to a corner of one of the maps, and the gathered men leaned in for a closer look. “When put together, these maps detail the islands around a large sea southeast of Ile d’Or, which we are calling the New Haven Sea, based on our best efforts to translate what text we can from these documents.” “Not all the maps are written in the same language,” noted Thaddeus Calvo, the somewhat well-known Eslandolan explorer. “If I’m interpreting the scale correctly,” interjected Captain Janszen, “some of those islands are far bigger than anything discovered in the Brick Seas to date.” “Astute observation, Captain,” replied Guilder. “You are reading the scale properly. There appear to be at least three islands far larger than anything Halosian explorers have discovered, and three others that rival the largest discoveries to date.” "What languages are these" asked Calvo, looking at a couple of the maps in particular. "I have had success translating other pieces of text similar to parts of these maps, languages similar to those encountered among natives in the Prio Seas, but none of the writing here appears to be an exact match." “The Crahaish neh Triuri have identified and translated parts of the text written in Cymgrii script," answered Guilder. "Ah, Cymgrii!" Calvo nodded, turning over in his mind what he knew of the language. Guilder continued: "The sea encompassed by this ring of islands appears to be described as fairly calm. With so many islands of such size, and a large navigable sea, you can see why it is imperative that we learn more about the area. It could contain unimagined resources. So,” Guider continued, “I propose that we send an exploration fleet to the New Haven Sea. Our first targets should be the group of three islands so near Celestia and Ile d’Or, directly to their east and southeast. Two of the islands are similar in size to Celestia, but the other is quite small. I suggest that we circumnavigate these three islands, discerning what we can about them and confirming the accuracy of these maps.” Janszen and Calvo nodded in agreement. “Then, we set exploration parties ashore on each and gather what information we can, but we keep it brief. After that, I’d like to see the fleet proceed to the two largest islands in the western half of the sea and conduct similar navigation and exploratory efforts.” “Governor, how many ships are you considering for this fleet?” asked Captain Janszen. "I have managed to put four ships at your disposal," replied Guilder. "What do you think of that?” "My disposal?" stuttered Janszen. "Yes, captain," replied Guilder with a grin, "at your disposal. Cornelius Reyngout always spoke highly of you, and you have performed admirably as you have worked your way up the ranks of the MCTC. But I suspect you have more to offer than merely being a good merchant captain. You will be overall commander of this expedition as well as the ultimate authority on the sea, but I would advise you to also lean on Calvo's expertise." Guilder then turned to Calvo. "You are to lead any forays onto the islands. I am depending on your experience. And I expect you will counsel young Janszen here capably as well." Janszen struggled to keep his emotions in check. “What ships?" he finally managed to ask. "You’d need at least one or two well-armed ships to protect the fleet, and I’d suggest having at least one smaller ship that could venture in closer to the islands without risking the larger ships on hidden shoals or such. And we'd need ample cargo space to bring back any discoveries and room for some troops.” "I think we have exactly that," replied Guilder. "You and Calvo are to go with all haste to Poorvintia, where you are to assume command of La Contessa de Victoria. Escorted by the Blood Diamond, you will proceed to Hojaroja, where you will rendezvous with the carrack Hidalga and the armed sloop Esmerelda and pick up a company of my troops there. From there, proceed to the northwestern islands of the New Haven Sea and begin your expedition." "La Contessa de Victoria?" stammered Janszen. "Yes, she is quite the ship, but you have earned it." "What about my first mate, Anthony Crol?" "He will take over as captain of the Far Horizon," replied Guilder. Janszen would miss sailing with his longtime friend, but knowing Crol would finally have his own command softened the blow. Guilder then pulled a key from his pocket. "You will also need the expedition treasury. I have a chest in the next room with 1500 DBs for your use. Here is the key. Don't spend it all in one place!" joked Guilder. Janszen laughed a hearty laugh, a needed break from thinking about what was ahead. "If you run into any problems on the expedition," Guilder continued, "Fatu Hiva and Jameston are both near, but do not discuss your mission with anybody there. If you find the need to return to friendlier confines, I will have someone in Fuerte Unido you can talk to." Pip Janszen took a deep breath. The next phase of his life had begun. He was ready for the challenge. --- Map of the New Haven Sea: .

Here's the latest from my ship-building binge, the carrack Hidalga. The crew is busy at work: There's a discussion on the quarterdeck: The lookout scans the horizon through his looking glass: Captain Hugo Pinzon looks back into the mourning sun: But soon his attention returns to tasks on deck as they sail to their destination. [ESL] The Esmerelda, or more fun with gray hull pieces
Capt Wolf replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks! Thanks, and please borrow away. Sorry I didn't show off the deck very well in the photos. As for the sails, no camera tricks are involved; the paper is that color. Thanks. I think the gray hulls really lend themselves to some interesting color schemes. As for what's next, you'll find out soon. <cough> A-MRCA <cough> Thanks. I like to make my smaller ships playable. That is the essence of LEGO, isn't it? And thanks for noticing that diagonal stripe. (I didn't realize I had featured it so prominently in the captain's close-up.) I think it is one of the things that makes these smaller ships look good, bringing the color stripe through the hull with a bit of a curve. -

Here's my latest effort at a ship using gray hull pieces, the Esmerelda: She's a small armed merchant, capable of fighting off small attackers, as this crewman is ready to do: The Esmerelda is small enough to navigate shallow waters, but as you can see by her rounded shape, can still carry a fair-sized cargo. With a small crew, Captain Enrique Marino handles the helm himself: But rumor has it that Capt. Marino and the crew of the Esmerelda have been tapped for a special mission. Stay tuned for more... --- More fun playing with gray hull pieces. I was going to name it something along the lines of Emerald Fog or some such to play off the green and gray color scheme, but Emerald morphed into Esmerelda and I liked that better. All C&C welcome.

Great MOC. The table is beautiful, and I love the use of the round tile piece for framing on the lower part of the walls. And another chandelier design to steal copy learn from! And the figure posing is great. I know had a lot of fun trying to pose figures in a duel MOC; you've done a fantastic job, especially with your photo angles and the depth of field in that 4th pic.
-
My bad on that part of the write-up. You are both correct. That's what I get for winging part of the write-up rather than sticking to my source material. Thanks for clarifying that part of the process for us!

Nice build. It looks very appropriate for the stated purpose. I love the detail of the bullet holes in the wall. Nicely done. And good luck with your foray into LDD. You appear to be off to a good start!

Great MOC! I love that statue, especially the use of the gargoyle wings and the lion's head piece. And you've done your usual great job with the ruins, foliage, hidden characters, and general color palette. I'd be worried about the jaguar if I were that goat. Have you considered turning this into a mini-challenge of some sort to get more people to contribute to the lore of Celestia natives? Sort of a follow-up to the Orchid challenge.

Are you viewing from your phone? Some people have trouble viewing pictures I post from their phone. And glad to see you're still here! You've been quiet in BoBS for a bit. We need some classic Captain Braunsfeld adventure! I really enjoy the "process" builds as well. I did the write-up, but Drunknok's pics made it easy. Yeah, I liked that effect, too! The doors, along with the glowing fire. Agreed! He certainly delivered on his mini-challenge prize. Yep, sized to fit, and I gave him a bonus for the speedy delivery. I'm the mayor of Weelond, but lots of people have contributed to its growth. Oktoberfest helped. I want to know the answer to that, too. @Drunknok, can you reveal?
-
Let's go by this story. :) Works for me. The KPA editors are perfectly willing to throw their reporters under the bus! Look for a correction in the next issue.
-
I believe the Wolf/Wolf II is the most cursed ship in BoBS history. I captured it from Mardier. Next MRCA it sank. Next MRCA I sent out the Wolf II, which was captured by the Sea Rats. Then it was captured by an NPC pirate and sold at auction to Oleon. Most recently, it was mistaken for a Sea Rat vessel and captured by Corrington. I'm not sure it has ever successfully completed a mission! (And it has been in the possession of all four player factions and, counting Mardier and the NPC pirate, owned in some fashion by six factions!)
-
It probably needs to be returned to the previous owner, who I think was dukesc? Check me on that.
