  1. Excellent structure and a well-rounded scene! I immediately liked the exterior, and then the interior was revealed! Excellent work on the street as well; I like your technique for the road itself; and the scene is full of activity. I spent a fair amount of time just looking at the unloading of gun carriages. On the exterior of the building itself, my favorite part is the roof façade (and nice use of the minifig baseplates on the roof). You've done a great job with the masonry bricks, too. The interior completes the build. The warehouse is quite full. And while one nation's trade companies are accused of seeking nothing but profit, it would appear that certain other countries seem preoccupied with military conquest. Are the Corries making arrangements for more than raw materials with the natives? Should the other nations of the Brick Seas be worried about the military buildup?
  2. Lovely ship! Great lines! I really like the decorations. And I have to take a closer look at that bow. I like it! Well done!
  3. Wonderful dialogue! I couldn't stop reading. (Really!) Fantastic insight into the goings-on in the palace in Belson. What is the next theatrical performance in Belson? Like Bananas for Chocolate?
  4. Very cool cave! Starting it from the top does sound difficult; I wouldn't have thought of doing it that way. But the effort paid off in fantastic results. Well done!
  5. Thanks to everyone for the comments. I appreciate that you've found so many different elements of this entry to comment on. Hopefully that means I'm doing something right! Thanks! Thanks for noticing the disturbed sand. I was very happy with how that turned out. As for the foliage, that is not one of my strengths, but it turned out ok in this one. Thanks! The pond was a sort of stream-of-consciousness build; I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out. Thanks! I've been looking for a way to work that "putting on a jacket" technique into a build. As for the ending, if I could have used more than five builds, that would have been different, but I wanted to have an ending more definitive than "he disappeared into the jungle never to be seen again." My oldest daughter suggested the monkey bite, so I reshot the last picture to fit. For some reason the "three islands" element to the challenge made me immediately think of doing a Goldilocks parody. And thanks for noticing the ship wall. The curvature didn't come through very well in the pics, but I'm happy with the effect in person. Yes! In fact, my daughters insisted that I include a monkey in my other challenge build just for that reason! But you may notice that the other build doesn't have three monkeys, only one.
  6. And my Ch3A entry - The Road to Fame and Riches. It's always a little disappointing to peek behind the curtain...

  8. “World famous explorer Thaddeus Calvo claims the Fountain of Youth in the name of King Fernando and Eslandola. Calvo followed the clues that dozens of other adventurers failed to decipher to find the no-longer-mythical waters on an undisclosed island in the east. Calvo is now the toast of the Brick Seas, as leaders of various factions bid on his services.” Yes, that is how the report in the Kings Port Advertiser should read, thought Calvo. Publicity and showmanship are key in this new modern age! That is why Calvo, moderately famous in certain social circles, brought along a painter to capture the moment for posterity. Putting two of the finest suits of armor he could lay his hands on (it’s amazing how much like gold you can make an old brass breastplate look with a little elbow grease) on a couple of his crew, he had them stand in the background with the Eslandic banner. The natives were willing to pose for the painting for a few trade items. The hardest part of this “epic” quest, thought Calvo, was finding such an idyllic-looking spot that wouldn’t be instantly recognizable. The Fountain of Youth? Surely this large puddle from a recent rainstorm, dressed up with some border stones, has mythical restorative powers! Once back to civilization, Calvo would hire another artist to convert the painting to an engraving suitable for mass printing. Then this image would be all anyone would know of this “glorious” moment, and kings and trade companies would shower him with gold and everlasting fame would be his! * * * * * I decided to try my hand again at a FP build, but I couldn't get the background elements out of the field of focus. Other than that, I'm relatively happy with the effect. As for the story concept, I just wanted to poke fun at how various historic events are "preserved." All C&C welcome!
  9. Nice ship! I like how you've created the bow. Overall, the colors are good; I like how you've used the black-and-white checkerboard effect to create some curves in the side. And as before, I love how you build those sails!
  10. My Ch3B entry - The Story of Father Tholeau and the Three Monkeys. It's something of a BoBS fairy tale.

  12. ONCE UPON A TIME there was an Olander priest named Tholeau. The priest, secretly in search of the Fountain of Youth, set sail with Cato Calrelli to Nelissa. One night, when the ship neared the islands that, according to an ancient manuscript, were the likeliest locations of the fountain, Tholeau made his move. While most of the crew was asleep, the priest threw his clothes on over his pajamas, snuck out through a gun port, and sailed off by himself in the captain’s boat. The priest eventually came upon the first island, but it did not match the description in the ancient manuscript. “This island is too big!” he exclaimed. So he proceeded to the second island. “This island is too small,” he said. So, he sailed to the last island. “Ahhh, this island is just right,” he said happily, and he proceeded to the interior of the island. After he’d travelled far into the jungle, he was hot and sweaty and wanted to refresh himself, when he happened across three bodies of water. So he undressed and waded into the first pool. “This pool is too hot!” he exclaimed, and he jumped out. So he waded into the second pool. “This pool is too cold!” he shivered, and climbed out. So he tried the last pool. “Ahhh, this pool is just right,” he sighed. After bathing in the pool, Father Tholeau was very tired. He climbed out and put on his pajamas. He found a nice bed of leaves to lie down in, but it was too hard underneath. Then he lay in a second bed of leaves, but it was too soft. Then he lay down in a third bed of leaves and it was just right. Tholeau fell asleep. As he was sleeping, three monkeys came by. “Someone’s been wading in my pool,” growled the Papa monkey. “Someone’s been wading in my pool,” said the Mama monkey. “Someone’s been wading in my pool, and they turned it yellow!” cried the Baby monkey. Looking around some more, they saw the leaves had been disturbed. Papa monkey growled, “Someone’s been sleeping in my bed!” “Someone’s been sleeping in my bed, too” said the Mama monkey. “Someone’s been sleeping in my bed and he’s still here!” exclaimed Baby monkey. Just then, Tholeau woke up and saw the three monkeys. He screamed, jumped up, and started to run away. But Papa monkey was quick, and he jumped on Tholeau and bit him on the shoulder. Tholeau finally got away from the three monkeys and into the jungle, but died a few days later from a nasty infection. THE END * * * * * A couple of additional pics: The first build (12x12), uncropped and unedited: The final build from above, uncropped: I hoped you enjoyed this BoBS fairy tale. All C&C welcome! .
  13. I love it! It's fun to see someone rebuild someone else's MOC and use it in their own story. Well done!
  14. Great build! The house has a lot of character raised up off the ground, with the porch and balcony and railings, and the roof. The surrounding scene is also excellent with the tree, vine, and dirt road. Excellent figure posing to top it all off. So much to like with this build! Well done!
  15. 160db sent for purchase of Sleeping Siren.
  16. When do we find out final sale prices?
  17. Fantastic job in that scale! You've got me thinking about trying one in that scale as well.
  18. I like this build a lot! You've worked in a lot of different elements with two colors of rocks, sand, and different styles of trees and vegetation, but the water as it trickles down the rocks is my favorite part. Minifig posing is good, too. Well done all around!
  19. I love the multi-level build with the cellar, but even without it, I really like the lighthouse and adjacent building. The mix of textures and colors really works for me. Well done!
  20. I'll agree with the others: the perspective really makes this one. It may be a quick build, but I like the feel of it.
  21. I didn't take this to be an MRCA build, but simply a means of establishing Capt. Bran in the Brick Seas. Ship activity is not restricted to the MRCA, just the money-making part. Nice dock activity, and a good job of using your first free builds to further your story. Keep 'em coming!
  22. Good job with your first ship. It is immediately recognizable as a cog. And I like that you're telling Captain Bran's story with your builds. You're off to a great start in BoBS, and I look forward to seeing more from you.
  23. Nice building and nice little industry. It feels very period-appropriate. I like the external stairs to the second floor, and the minifig activity on the ground floor. I also like the plan for your collaborative pirate town. I look forward to seeing more of it in the future.
  24. Glad to be of service! I look forward to seeing what you do with the idea. Thank you very much. I like what you've presented so far, and look forward to seeing your settlement-building.
