Great minifig posing! It really feels like I'm in the middle of the fight! And the vegetation is simple but effective. Very attractive presentation!

[ESL-FB3] Market house on the village green
Capt Wolf replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks for the kind comments everyone! This was a build that just kind of took off, but I'm pretty happy with how it came together. I usually try to limit the photos in my posts, but there was so much going on in the scene that I went a bit wild. Thanks! I thought the arches above the windows was a fun detail that really gave the house some character. Thanks! I tried to use the flesh masonry bricks before, but the color combo I was using just didn't work. This time I think it worked well. Thanks! I wanted the roof to look like individual shingles. I used black, dark brown, old brown, and reddish brown slopes. I was a bit worried that the reddish brown looked to much like the flesh bricks, but it turned out ok. Thanks! The market house was the start of this build, and then it just kept growing. Making the individual market scenes was a lot of fun. Thanks! The ox is a Brickforge cow. They've got a variety of colors. Thanks! Much appreciated! I've always figured Eslandola is a mix of Spanish and Dutch, but I've tried to emphasize the Dutch side for Weelond. I've taken a lot of inspiration from illustrations of 17th century New York/New Amsterdam. Thanks! I'm very happy with how the house turned out, but the minifig activity in the market scenes is what really makes the build, in my opinion. Thanks again for all the comments! This was a fun build, and it's nice to know the things I enjoyed or took special care with are appreciated! -
[ESL] Setup of mine on Ferro Azure
Capt Wolf replied to Elostirion's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
You beat me to it! I've been meaning to prospect on Ferro Azure. Excellent rock work! The wood framing of the entrance and the keep out sign are excellent details. Good figure posing, too. Well done!- 9 replies

It’s market day in Weelond! Residents have come to the market house on the village green to sell their wares. The ground floor of the market house is used to store goods, and the archways also serve as vendor stalls on market days. The 2nd floor of the market house is used as a meeting place for town elders and for community events. Some days there might be people selling animal skins and furs, leather goods, iron cooking pots, and other artisan goods, but today it looks like it’s farm produce day. As we walk along the street, Mrs. Pifano is selling bananas and apples. In addition to the man she’s talking to, the militiaman on horseback appears interested. Set up on the cobblestones in front of the market house we find “Old Man” Claesen, a local fisherman, and his young assistant with two barrels of fresh fish. Aaron van der Meede is talking to Mrs. Lockerman, who is selling carrots from her garden. At the far end of the building, Samuel Amwell is unloading kegs from his brewery. Moving to the other side of the market house, we see Sam’s assistant tending to the ox that pulls the cart. Up the street on the far side of the green, we are greeted by the smell of fresh baked bread and pastries. Let’s stop and buy some treats! The next smell is not as pleasant! A pig farmer has set up a temporary pen and brought his pigs to market. They are fat and ready for slaughter. Who wants bacon? But bacon would take time. The poultry farmer has cooked turkey legs ready now! He also has chickens for sale. That’s a visit to the Weelond market!

[Esl - FB1 May] : The Jungle (is) Mine

Another fine prospecting build! You do such a good job with the vegetation, I have to study it! -
Lovely ship. It took me awhile to realize you had used palm trees for masts. Very interesting! And I like the brick-built sails; I used the same technique on my Far Horizon. Your water technique is stunning! Well done!

Monkeys in a Captain Braunsfeld MOC -- who would have guessed?! Great use of the Capt Hook hat/hair, and of the new wedge plate piece as a easel. Another fun build! Great job!- 22 replies

[COR-FB] Jim&Bob's Excellent Pig Meat
Capt Wolf replied to Puvel's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Excellent build. Great use of color! Nice brick-built door. And of course the pigs hanging on the wall make the scene. The expression on the butcher's face worries me, though ... I think he likes his job a little too much! -
[ESL –FB] Class 4T2 Far Horizon
Capt Wolf replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks to everyone for the comments! Much appreciated! But I was surprised no one has commented on the brick-built sails. I'd appreciate some feedback on how they turned out. Thanks! At some point in the future I hope to have occasion to photograph the two ships together. And thanks for the comments on the stern emblem! I was happy with how that came out. Thanks! I much prefer this color scheme to that of the HoE. Thanks! Regarding the lack of stern windows, I just remember needing the space to present the crossed anchors emblem. But I should have come up with something so the captain doesn't need to spend all his time on deck. Thanks. You're right that the HoE came out a little better, but I'm still partial to this one for some reason. The photos don't do it justice. I'll have to break out the sails for it at some point. Thanks! Thanks! Your builds often have a good playability quality about them, so I appreciate the comment! Thanks. That classic-but-polished feel was the effect I was going for when I built her. -

A fine example of Oleander fortifications
Capt Wolf replied to blackdeathgr's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
An appropriately titled thread! It is indeed a fine fortification. The sloped walls look great -- although I refuse to recognize your trademark! I like that it is built into a natural rock formation. Well done!- 13 replies

I like the idea of licensing it as a plantation, especially if they're fishing in the same spot regularly. It serves the same function as a farm/plantation.

I always love your ships, and this is no exception! I really do want to see you build one of these in real bricks just to see how it translates. -

Great job using the roof technique on a full structure. It works well! And it's an appealing residence for your captain. My favorite grounds detail is the vegetable garden. -

Capt Wolf replied to Legostone's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I don't know how you were able to do this in such a short amount of time! Amazing job! The curvature of the gun deck seems a bit extreme, but overall I love the ship, regardless of how quickly it was built. And the color scheme works. A fine addition to the BoBS fleet! -
[ESL – FB] MCTC Warehouse in Weelond
Capt Wolf replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks to all for the comments on the expanded build! It was fun going back and doing more with this build. The little side structure wasn't in the plan when I made the original build, but the idea of it was a good part of what got me to build the expanded version. It created some additional activity and interest. Thanks. Thanks. The size of the previous build was based on available bricks and the ability to do a detailed interior, but it never quite looked like how I imagined the building. I'm glad the addition has the desired affect. It's an MCTC warehouse, so there had to be pigs this month! Amsterdam was a large part of the inspiration, so it's nice to know I captured the feel. Thanks! -
