  1. Nice idea! Are you still working on it?
  2. I think it's perfect! I don't like the effect of the servo motor becuase it returns to the centre...remember trucks are slow anyway..so there is plenty of time to steer! Also it's nice to control the angle of steer little by little when you are driving offroad or trying to clibm some obstacles....it makes it more real! Example: at home I place some little obstacles and then with the 8X8 i go over them..sometimes I stop on them, steer the wheels a bit to see how the leafsprings react...then drive forward.....etc etc....with a servo motor would be simply impossible! Anyway I do use a different solution also: a worm gear rotated by the M or L motor, and the lever connected to the warm gear. This gives precise steering angles. Will show soon.
  3. Effe I wish I had more time! The 8X8 leafspring Man TGS it's coming...believe me! And all the big cranes aswell...but I don't have much time to build unfortunately!! Anyway I promise I'll speed up and finish it soon!!
  4. You did exactly what I did! Mini La that power both levers...so was easy to have a double steered axle!! Great job Effe! keep building this beauty!!
  5. Exactly. I'm using something similar and works well. Hope you can find the space to use the same solution. Maybe using the shorter steering link? ( 6L ) bytheway love your engine!!!!!!!
  6. Efferman can I suggest something for the steering? As real trucks why don't you simply use a 3X lever to push/pull the steering link? I've used it in my Man TGS and save a lot of space!
  7. You mean it's a pendular axle? You won't be able to vary the ground clearence but it's still cool to have pneumatic suspensions! You can also connect them with a hose inverting the outputs: lower output of the left pneumatic cylinder with the higher right cylinder!! It will be like having a closed circuit!
  8. Max, please! The nature of the torsen is that "naturally auto-lock" itself when one of the wheel is on the air/low grip Your car has a rear and front open diff, that's why the left wheels spins! The reason why they spin together it's given by the middl diff that is a torsen!!!! So you answered yourself, but you didn't get your own answer LOL
  9. Wrong. The torsen has that nature of becoming "locked" by itself when one of the wheel lose traction! This happens because there is a spur gear attached to the each warm gear, and the 2 spur gear make sure the diff it's "locked". all this is based on a very simple concept: a warm gear can sping a spur gear, but a spur gear doesn't spin a warm one!
  10. Why don't you replace the shock absorber with pneumatic cylinders? It makes more sense for a crane! Also it will provide variable ground floor clearance like back in the day the Grove All terrain Crane had it!
  11. But let me say Milan the bigger the scale and the easiest the challenge! Don't you agree? Of course to make that huge crane boom working it requires serious skills (that you certainly have) but it feels like to add functions it's easier because there is a lot of space! Where instead on a smaller model it's hard to fit everything in it! I love the Unimog wheels and I think it's a good limit for Lego models. But I love even more the challenge of a truck with 62.4 wheels. And if you apply a studded design to them then you can always achieve an high level of details! Bosman uses mostly the 24X43 wheels which makes the model pretty big! Unfortunately his models lacks of thechnic in my opinion, it's more about the look given by the studded design! Anyway I do look forward to your crane, and also the new book!
  12. Milan!!!!! Why do you like to build on such a big scale? You crazy man! Anyway cool design of the wheels although I still prefer the Unimog ones! a bit smaller model but definitely more realistic…don't you find? Anyway go ahead and please keep posting!
  13. Well think about it this way: most of the time they buy instrcutions to sell them back so this means zero work!! then if they get the LDD/Mlcad model they are already half way through!! So again..don't tell me this is fair! Also you mya find it as hard sure, but remember that good instructions can only be made if the 3D model is perfectly organised! Myself I do model and build with hands at the same time in parallel...so it means the 3D model it's not just made after the real model! Anyway....
  14. Wrong, There is something called "torsen" differential! Just saying... Anyway not keen on the color scheme bu looks good overall. Isn't the cabin out of proportions?
  15. I hope you are joking! Otherwise I would say you've never made the effort to create a complex model! To make instructions takes time and it's stressfull ok, but the hardest part is to create the model af first place! I find your words a derespectfull! What license?? People simply steal things and sell them back..regardless what sorto fo "licence" you put on them!
  16. Looking really nice!!!! Actually seems to be a cool contest!! My tip: maybe the wheelarces should be 1/2 or 1 stud higher (so you can bring back the suspensions) and maybe a black front grill. But over all looks cute a whell executed!! Good luck with the contest!
  17. 8455 all the way! You won't find a model that hase so many functions and features in such a small size! It also has alsmost perfect proportions and looks simply wonderful! Buy one if you can! It's worth the high price!
  18. Absolutely lovely Pat!!! At the beginning I thought it was the Popemobile!!  Anyway I was expecting a 2 gears gearbox!!!
  19. It's always nice to read such posts! I have to say I don't own this set, mainly because I don't really like the look of the crane! For me there is something wrong with it! Also I did get a copy of 8460 when it came out and for me it did the job better than this one! I do like the 42009 but today i would still buy 8460 over all of them! It is an old school set, simple, few pieces but placed in the right place and in the right way! About the stud less design, well as we know it has changed the system quite a lot and definitely a new era for LEGO, way more impressing is the fact that we can combine them. you guys don't tell me off but I do think 8421 has always been over evaluated!
  20. Can I say something? It's absolutely out of scale! I mean the boom lenght and size of it's section are simply too big! Seems like you are trying to impress people with big size stuff, but I'm afraid you will end up having problems to make the all thing work, the boom be able to raise and extend. Just my impression. I hope I'm wrong! good luck anyway!
  21. For once I agree with Erik! I mean people on here are easily too impressed….in general! But in the other hand we know how good Milan is! So no doubts he will entry a great model! Looking forward to the final thing! it's will be huge as usual!!!
  22. I think, although it's a technic competition, the main focus should be the bodywork rather than suspensions or engines. Specially considering the year 2045 we may not get pistons/normal suspension anymore. So I look forward to the body! I've made some sketches and renders and hopefully I'll be able to complete it! P.S. how can we see how many entires and pics of those? Would be nice to see what other people are doing but I don;t know where to look for!
  23. Don't worry about it too much because at the end of the day your dolly will drive on plane surfaces mostly! Also you could add suspensions to it in order to improve things!
  24. Basically you will need a pivot point and an arm/bracket that works with a counterweight. Also as normally humans use hands to hold it you should mount it on a suspended frame so to damp the vibrations. Sounds hard but believe me it's easier than it seems! Google "camera stabilizer" and there is plenty of infos and videos!
