Point is also the VAT difference between Germany and the Netherlands is 2%, which still comes nowhere close to 30 euro difference. Also Europe has 1 MSRP for alot of products (non-Lego). The difference between individual countries in VAT is paid by the manufacturer since the difference is so small in general. Hated Playmobil as well, but that was not the point of my post. I like MODing sets as much as the next guy, but as pointed out by Vectormatic and Paul Boratko, the keyword is "Ultimate". I shouldn't have the need to change anything major when that word is used. Minor things? Maybe. Major functions that define this model? Don't call it "Ultimate" then Lego, because when I have to MOD this I am basically breaking the model down to scratch and doing your "Ultimate" job. The usual stuff of brickwatch.net and the Lego deals topic on Tweakers and Lowlug. The dragsters were among an order shortly before easter of pretty much every set of Technic 1H 2016 when www.MyToys.de had a decent discount on alot of sets (think the dragsters went for 48 euro) and as a new customer you get an additional 15% discount, which would mean I actually got them for about 42 euro each lol when I account for the shipping for the 8 sets or so I bought then (5,95 shipping total). I can't tell where I will get the Porsche for 270 (or less) yet, it's just an educated guess based on experience of the past. Amazon.de always seems to have a pretty solid price right before launch on alot of sets in the past. Minimum of 10% discount usually, which would mean 270. Amazon will always pricematch a discount deal from Germany's Toys'r'us, which usually mean 10-20% discount on Germany's Toys'r'us price which tends to be below MSRP as well and then there are shops like MyToys that will price match Amazon and at times have pretty discount deals of their own. Btw speaking of the dragster, it's about 48 euro now on amazon.de. And 42043 for about 155 euro right now. The 42041 is a hard set to get a deal on yes since not alot of shops sell it, the best I have seen was about 50 euros. -

Perhaps better for the other topic about Porsche pricing, but luckily we have www.amazon.de (who price match other shops in Germany on discount deals) Vectormatic and plenty of other webshops that don't use Lego's prices as a baseline and then add a couple of bucks onto it (hi Bart Smit and Intertoys). I already know I can pick up the Porsche for 270 euros at best, but I am going to aim for 240 euros. I'd consider paying 300 euro if this set actually lived up to the marketing of "Ultimate", but it's already clear before any reviews are released that it doesn't. Without discount it feels like an expensive parts pack atm with a deluxe box and book. I wouldn't pay full price for the other models mentioned either and haven't. Example: got the dragster twice, 46 euro each, best price I could get for it. -
I had this on my Sheepo Mustang, 95% genuine Lego and 5% white pneumatic hoses for soft axles (pretty espensive back then, even the 19L which later came in the 42039). Within a few weeks it annoyed the crap out of me and I coughed up the money for the soft axles. No regrets. Since then I try to avoid third party solutions and especially funding a company that makes money of Lego's design like these Ferrari knock-offs, but's that's just my choice.

I am a little surprised by the amount of manual labour involved, but then again, it's a unique type of box for TLG. Not worth the investment for machines I guess for a set that will most likely be in production for 2 years (like other Technic sets) give or take. I liked the Auto-Bild video, even the orange was growing on me (looked darker at times in that video). -

Don't want to nag more about this set, but 4 boxes is your "Porsche module" design Lego? 1 for the chassis 2 for body (or maybe partial chassis) 1 for interior That's just me going by what's on the boxes and making a guess. The modular design of the Porsche was one fo the few things I like(d) about this set and was expecting a similar experience to the 8448 with alot of small boxes that build each section of the car (chassis, engine, gearbox, suspension, body work) I was expecting smaller and especially more boxes. With each box containing only one of the following things: Chassis Engine Gearbox Suspension (preferably rear and front seperate) Bodywork Instead the entire chassis, engine, gearbox and suspension looks to be all dumped into one box. This looks pretty lazy to me, especially with the 8448 in the back of my mind. The book might follow the assembly steps of chassis>suspension>gearbox>engine like the real factory most likely would, but it's not the same when the whole load of parts for the whole base of the car are on the table. -
Cool review of a great classic. Built it from my own parts when I was little and bought the set a couple of years ago just to have it. Your first "con" about the manual I consider a "pro" though. I love those old manuals. Comparing studded sets part count vs studless sets part count isn't really fair imo, but ya, they got alot of mileage out of a few pieces back in the day. Any chance you will be doing more "classic" reviews?

I must be missing something since Polo-Freak's images are about the 8473 set, but where is the 9L orange liftarm(s) on the Porsche? It must be somewhere since they used a 9L orange liftarm in that original teaser image with the pile of parts. Unless that was just a render? -

Thanks Cwetqo. For everything that's wrong with the rest of the model, the wheels and tires look pretty sweet. Though for Jeroen Ottens, I do find it a pitty that there is no centre axle hole for his brake system. -

Perhaps a question that Jim could look into for his review: Besides rear wheel steering missing, I wonder if there would be space for a Sheepo style brake mechanism at the rear. At the front there seems to be plenty of space with the massive gap behind the front wheels, but I am unsure if there could have been brakes at the rear. Perhaps the gearbox could have been located more to the front of the car to make room for brakes at the rear, but this would need a hands-on look to know for sure I think. If it's not possible, it could explain why the model completely lacks brakes. -

I'd expect a midnight rush, but I also think they will have more units worldwide than the 41999 on the 1st of june and that wasn't sold out in a day either. Any or all of the following might happen (in order of most likely) in the night of 31st of may and the 1st of june: - Lego site might crash when it's put on the site (pretty much a given since it has problems even with normal use) - Order won't show in your account, but is being processed - Order won't show and is not being processed - Can't use VIP points - It's available for purchase but with a (3 weeks) later shipping date within 24 hours after launch (like the 41999) - It's temporarily out of stock - I am sure I forgot a couple of things, but I think these are the main things to consider Good luck. Just remember, while their site has its issues, Lego service is awesome. So if something is wrong, don't hesitate to call or email them and I am sure they will sort it out. -
[MOC] Aston Martin DB11
Appie replied to Jeroen Ottens's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Glad you like it, but if this was an attempt to convince me. Don't bother, I can think of at least 5 colours I like more for an Aston Martin than orange. -

Just a personal opinion, but an Aston Martin in orange makes baby Jesus cry. Too flashy colour for a classy car. I'd keep it white even if the Porsche panel would work at the rear. -

Good start. A couple of ideas I had for my own supercar someday in random order: -Front V12 engine supercar (Aston Martin as main inspiration, big fan of those cars) -Paddle gearbox -Working brakes -Functional KERS (rough idea with pull back motors) -Headlights that turn with steering (is this still a thing?) -Working airconditioning -adjustable ride height -different steering modes (thanks Claas) -rear spoiler height linked to gearbox (since I can't fake 200km/h with Lego, decided to just link it to the most likely gear you'll be in at 200km/h) And probably some other features I came up with that I forgot at the moment. List obviously not based on actual DB11 features. Have fun with any or none of them -

Why? Because I expect a more adult oriented building experience with this new age category on the box? What on earth was I thinking? *end sarcasm I question the 11-16 age on previous flagships as well, but even more so for this new category. New age category for the price seems true, because it doesn't look like it's on the box for the building experience. -

Guess it's hard for Lego at this point to make a BI that isn't holding your hand with baby steps. So while the set has a 16+ on the box they treat it like every other set. Kinda stupid imo. What's supposed to be 16+ about this set now when the BI follows the rules of a basic Technic set? The model doesn't have any precision mechanisms like working brakes which could require 16+, so the 16+ looks like a lie. I hope reviewers talk about the age in their reviews too and what stuff in the model could warrant the 16+, because I don't see it. -

Of course it has front suspension, but I think the problem people have with the 'suspension geometry', is that it isn't accurate compared to the real model which could be about kingpin inclination and the like or simply the type of suspension like McPherson. I can't be arsed to google what the GT3 RS does have. No Ackerman would just be sad at this size. I didn't really check if the 42056 has it or not, but I hope it does. -

Correct. From the 1st of June you can only buy it from Lego, but august 1st it's available for purchase from every store willing to sell it. No mention of limited numbers on this set and the serial number in the glove box is 8 digits as seen in the designer video from Lego: 'XXXX0000'. If the first 4 digits are letters you can have an insane amount of combinations before running out. If it's all numbers, it means it can go up to 99,999,999 sets. I don't think Lego ever sold any single set 100 million times? -
Not sure I understand what you mean, because even after googling the word amortize (thanks for learning a new word though) I am still unsure what you mean, but PPP is just the MSRP/parts. So 299.99 euro/2704 parts=price per part: 11 cents. So for my rule (PPP 10 cents or less) I need the Porsche to be at or below 270 euro for me to consider it value for money. What it costs for TLG per part on average is anybody's guess. So I doubt anybody is talking about that.

HoG should be very easy to MOD, considering the 12T bevel gear is still at the place on the dashboard where people thought Lego would put a HoG based on the pictures from the toy fair on the finished model, but they didn't. I personally don't care if the model has a HoG function or not, but at least it's an easy mod. -

The 8880 was the best of the studded era and different design style: skeleton body. If I want to trash talk the Porsche I could say it's a 8448 (boxes in box, modular build included) with a paddle gearbox and panel body instead of a skeleton body and it wouldn't be far from the truth actually. I like the Porsche though, but I don't like it as much as the 8880, not because the 8880 has better or more functions, but back then it set a new bar for Lego's official supercars. The Porsche is more an attempt to catch up to MOCers and yet missing half the functions of said MOCers and that is why it doesn't beat the 8880 for me. -
I wanted to bump this topic in about a week or so when I actually had something working again, but to answer the question: Great idea, this was originally the plan, but I didn't know how to implement it in that version. However since Barman, reverse engineer genius, figured out the Claas steering this is actually possible in my new set up. If all goes to plan it should look exactly like it does in the videogame, arms extending included (currently working on this). The solution I have for this transformation to look like the game is so stupid simple in combination with the Claas steering that I wondered why I didn't think of it sooner. Assuming it works of course, 99% sure it does. So far I reworked the hubs for the wheels and gave them a fair amount of abuse to see how the held up compared to the old version. They passed the test with flying colours, but it did come at the cost of having the wheelarch 1 stud higher at a point where I didn't want it higher on the wheelarch, but oh well. Also this image I got working, but I might put the L motor right on the wheel axle instead and hide the rear 3 studs of the L motor in the chassis. Not sure about this since it would show in battle mode, but I don't like the rubber on wheel solution completely, it's a "works 90% of the time" kind of thing, where the motor right on the drive axle works 100% and is more a solution that TLG would do.

The Netherlands get the Porsche for 330 euro Not the first set where we pay alot more than our German neighbours. Or well expect us to pay more than our German friends, Lego seems to forget amazon.de has free shipping to the Netherlands and has sold flagships 10-20% below MSRP too: Volvo wheel loader 42030: Netherlands MSRP 250 euro, Germany: 220 Tumbler: Netherlands MSRP 220 euro, Germany 200 Ghosterbusters HQ: Netherlands MSRP 400 euro, Germany 350 Adam West Batman set: Netherlands MSRP 290 euro, Germany 250 I think the incoming Hoth Star Wars set is also about 30 euros more in the Netherlands than in Germany. And Lego has alot of sets around 60 euro (basically all recent Lego Ideas sets) that cost 10 euro more in The Netherlands than in Germany. The 42050 is also 10 euro more here. When you ask Lego about this, they say "we price towards the market in a country". So seems we are richer in The Netherlands than the average German? I refuse to take part in this nonsense though and won't be ordering this set from Lego itself then at its june release. So people who don't like a 300 euro pricetag, try ours at 330 euro, 10% more fun!
