Unusual/illegal building techniques
1963maniac replied to brickhead_07's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I do my best to be legal. I do a lot of extra thinking trying to come up with something that will work. But, somtimes there just isn't a "legal"way to get it done. So like Toastie, I just do what I have to, to make it work. I cut things, glue things, make parts, whatever is needed. I'm not waiting for TLG to manufacture what I need. So do what you want and keep playing well!!!!- 21 replies

What are some of your favorite themes/sets?
1963maniac replied to Legomind3000's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm celebrating six decades with LEGO this year. I have seen a lot of themes retire. I don't know when the minifigure started but they didn't have them in my small world. What was available to me was a figure made from two specially shaped 1x2 bricks, an unprinted head and a hat, WOW! I thought those were great! Then I saw a minifigure... no words!!!!!!!!! Sets... I'm just now getting the Dacta RCX set from 1995, too expensive when raising kids. For me there are too many sets and themes to mention. Technic has been my favorite theme for over 40 years now and still my most favorite. -
What about the telegraph office? Please get your indians right. The plains indians (Siuox) that you usually see in the old movies with the big long headresses and teepees did not live where there were cactus growing. They lived on the prairie. They lived near the buffalo. Don't forget the community church where they also used it for school and the town hall and any other gathering that was nessessary like a courtroom for the visiting judge.

I do not have any hinges with 7 teeth. However, the only difference appears to be that the 7 tooth hinges do not have a fourth or sixth tooth (circled below) where the 9 tooth hinges have them. So one would believe that they work with the same angles whether they are 7 or 9 teeth. The difference from one tooth to the next is 22.5 degrees. When one overlays the 9 and 7 tooth hinge part, the teeth are in exactly the same positions.

This is a colossal build!! WOW!!! I was wondering how you have built two pneumatic cylinders together? Could you please share that? Also, what parts did you use between the two ring gears (for the turntable)? -
This is really cool! Are there going to be more pictures or even building instructions? Thanks for sharing.

Official LEGO Sets made in Stud.io
1963maniac replied to Cadder's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I'm late to this party. I am an MLCAD user. When a Studio user has the ambition to model a Lego set, I would sure like them to have a place to post their file. So yah, there is a need for this, because Studio users are probably not going to create files to fit the OMR requirements. Many times I have downloaded .io files from Rebrickable and elsewhere and converted them to ldraw for my own purposes. I'm not complaining, I don't mind at all. I am just glad they are available. I can take a file and organise it into a logical building instruction. Some are not so capable, but they can build that all important digital .io file. So, let's give them a place to post without a lot of requirements!- 20 replies

"Lego brand stores" and "Legoland" are owed and operated by Merlin Entertainment. They stick to highly populated areas. Also, look for "Bricks and Minifigs" stores, they are Lego resellers.

He's reaaly cool! Any building Instructions? I'd like to build him.
