That second picture looks very, very nice But, it looks more like Megablocks to me than lego. I have no idea why (I don't even know what's the difference in looks), but still, I have that feeling -
SR3D is closed source and I believe a few people from the LDraw community have contacted the family of Sergio (also because he had won the JJMA). I believe they did not want to share the code (yet). I can't find the information anymore though, so I'm not sure if this is just a fake memory in my brain or not I'll take another look. --- EDIT: Well, that was quick! I found it: In this topic (at the LDraw forums), Steffen asks if they could get the source code, on which Orion replies: It may be a dissapointment to some, but I think we should respect that decision

Sounds nice, I'm looking forward to the results I especially like the chassis, I hadn't seen it before.

using flextool in MLCad?

MLCad and LDCad are both LDraw based. Both produce LDraw models. You can open files from both editors in both editors, you don't have to import or export anything. Technically, you can also edit LDCad's flexible parts in MLCad, but that doesn't really work very well (I can go into more detail if you like). Nevertheless, you can view them in MLCad and once you placed the flexible parts using LDCad you can continue building your model in MLCad (although you can also continue building in LDCad). -

MLCad doesn't really have a flextool. You can use an addon called LSynth. Here's a very good tutorial about LSynth. I have to say though, that using LSynth (and MLCad in general to a lesser extent) is very difficult and annoying to work with (it's just... outdated...). I'd really recommend to use LDCad and its built-in flexible parts editor. It works much easier, much faster and in most of the times also much better. a simple video-tutorial for a pneumatic hose, but the same mechanics apply to other flexibale parts as well.If you have any more questions, feel free to ask -
We're working hard on the instructions. It's not the most easy car to build, but I think the people here don't mind a little challenge The chassis is almost finished (stepped and all)

I don't know what happened with the file, but I did found this: A normal lxf file is a zip file which contains a IMAGE100.LXFML file and a IMAGE100.PNG file. Your broken lxf file isn't a zip file anymore, at least not a working zip file. I don't know how (and if it's even possible) to rescue the file

Until now, I never really tried the flexibale part feature in LDcad, but your (excellent) model triggered me. And indeed, it works very nice.

For your information: I'm trying to create building instructions for this beautiful car. I don't know how long it will take though, my free time is very variable and the car is quite difficult (to build and to make instructions for)

HDD speeds don't really matter a lot for POV-Ray rendering as far as I know. The most important thing is the speed of your cpu and POV-Ray 3.7 also supports multithreading. So, your cpu speed and your cpu cores (and/or threads) are the most important factors here. You also need enough RAM, but for a normal sized render, I think 4gb should be enough if you aren't doing too much while it's rendering. -

Yea, you're right. Now I see. I remember that there was something about an agreement with the LDD team that this tool would be allowed if none of the brick data would be available to the user while the model is converted and rendered. I believe that's why they use that virtual file system. I think something went wrong though, because I was able to access that virtual filesystem (I'm not sure if that's a bad thing though), but since that first time this morning, I haven't seen it again. -

I want to use LDD2PovRay again (I only did something like 2 years ago) and in the meantime I installed a new Windows, so I had to set everything up again. Now, something that I can't remember seeing the last time, is another Hard Drive in MS File Explorerer. I have a ssd and 2 hdd and I set the LDDincludes folder to a folder on my old hdd. Now, a third hdd has appeared with the name "LDD to POV-Ray Includes". It's has exactly the same size as the hdd I set the LDDincludes folder to (465 GB of which 140GB is full). Is it normal for that thing to appear and if so, why does it has the same size? And, it doesn't appear in Disk Management, so what is it exactly? Some explanation would be appreciated -
Nothing really happened with that (as far as I know). At the moment, programmers have to develop their own way of adding connectivity into the editor. Last days/weeks, there's a discussion going on in the LDraw forums (so, not here) about connectivity and if and how to include connection data into the LDraw library. So, there may finally be some improvement in the future in that area. At least, I hope so

If you want to make a digital verison of the model, I would really, really recommend LDraw for Technic models. I can really recommend SR3D Builder, or LDcad. If you need any help, you can always post a topic in the LDD/LDraw subforum or PM me -

I believe you can use the following command: LPUB PLI BEGIN SUB xxxxx.dat y ... LPUB PLI END Where xxxxx.dat is the part which must be shown in the parts list (PLI) and y is the color of that part. And the dots are the parts that should be substituted. So, for example, you add the different parts that belong to the lights at the dots, and then you add the part number of the complete lights (with the folder wire) at the xxxxx.dat. I believe it was something like that, I'm not completely sure though.

LSynth can be quite... annoying to work with (to say the least) I've never worked with Bricksmith (I'm not using a Mac). In MLcad, there's a "hide" option, which adds the following meta-command in front of the part: MLCAD HIDE That also works with the constraints (since they are also just parts). MLcad is being used less and less nowadays, but because there's still no successor to LPub, we're still quite stuck with it. LPub can read most of MLCad's meta-commands. So, if it says MLCAD HIDE in front a part, LPub (and LDview too by the way) won't show the part. It could very well be that BrickSmith also has a hide feature. I don't know. And, if it has, it could be a bricksmith meta-command, or it's maybe using the MLCAD HIDE command. Again, I don't know... -

Maybe this will work (I've never tested it though): At every dish, place two gears. One that touches the top of the dish and one that touches the bottom of the dish. Make sure that the innerside of the teeth match the top and bottom, and not the teeth itself. Run LSynth Remove the gears (or hide them) If it's not clear what I mean, let me know
