I didn't knew it changed a lot over the other videos (I didn't even know it appeared in other videos). I just based the construction on the main video of the marble run. Do you maybe have an example? Yup. I was wondering about the same. When I started the LDraw file, I did a quick look at the available lengths, and there are a lot of different lengths and most of them (especially the larger ones) are not sold very much. There are a few relatively long ones in relatively large quantities. For example 75c20 in LBG or 75c22 in black. Altough, if you're planning to build this, I think it's best to buy a few different lengths.. Because, otherwise you can end up in the situation where you have only 1 length and you get 'stuck' where you need 1L more or less to attach it correctly to the structure. Also keep in mind that you need a lot of these to attach all the tubes. They are not in the file (because I have no idea where to put them, because that depends on the tube lenghts you use). I think it is.

Well, I had the structure complete quite quickly and the tubing was going along fine. Then came a busy holiday-'season' and I forgot about it But, you helped me remember it. Hopefully the LDraw file will be done this week. Note that I decided to NOT copy the exact tubing lengths of Aikyuki's model. For several reasons, including: that 2 very long tubes look better in the LDraw file It is very, very difficult to match the digital lengths with the real-world lengths It doesn't matter that much anyway. As long as you have enough clips to connect all the tubes, you're probably fine.

You can use LDview to export an LDraw file to an .stl or .3ds file. Although, I don't know how good the export quality is. Alternatively, there's also a LDraw importer for Blender (google it). You can import the LDraw file into blender and then use blender to export it to a variety of other formats. Again, there might be quality loss. I have no idea.

We could also look at it from another perspective: maybe Lego is indeed phasing out all current PF parts, but we haven't seen any of the new Technic parts. We've only seen the WeDo parts and they might be different than (alhough compatible with) other PF2 parts. I mean, the old WeDo also had different PF parts than other Technic sets, while maintaining compatibility.

Well, take a look at this page. The 3 new ones are in the Town category, while all the others are in the General category.

I've just made the 2x2 printed brick. Here it is. It's not official yet, but hopefully it's soon Philo, are you sure the LDraw part numbers are correct on those 3 new parts? All the Architecture plates are in p0 and those 3 new ones are suddenly p1... Is that correct?

 papacharly submits a file without a stand that is included in the set and at the same time lego2lego submits a file with a stand that's not included in the set.

Please don't add extra parts or modify the set-files. Or if you do, at least provide a 'official' file and a custom file

I've seen an image of a Lego employee using Maya, but that's a long time ago (few years I believe). And, I have no idea anymore what the image was about (a set designer, web designer, manager, minifigure, whatever).

I highly doubt they use anything from Adobe for modelling sets. Adobe is more targeted at media production (print and digital). Maybe you mean Autodesk?

Submodels Cascade in MLCAD
legolijntje replied to correaapoc's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
LDraw files are just text files. If you come across an LDraw file that has the .txt extension, 99% of the time you can just rename .txt to .ldr or .mpd and open it In this case, there's always a little 'problem' when downloading LDraw files from Brickshelf. It opens the file in the browser instead of downloading. You can right-click the link from Classicsmiley and choose 'Save as' or something like that (depends on your browser and language of course). -
Submodels Cascade in MLCAD
legolijntje replied to correaapoc's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
That's certainly possible. But, don't worry about any of those file extensions. It's only for 'humans', it doesn't matter for (most) LDraw software it the file extensions if .mpd, .ldr, .dat or even .txt. You can just insert a submodel into a submodel in MLcad. You don't have to do anything manual for that. Just in mlcad add submodel_31 into submodel_3 like you would add submodel_3 into the main model. What's exactly the problem you're having? Aside from that, I personally find MLCad quite annoying to work with for todays standars. I can recommend LDcad, it's works flawless (and imho easier compared to MLCad) with submodels. Of course, it's just personal preference -
Finally, the (long overdue) index update I'm not too sure how correct the statistics are this time, because of the... problems I had this time. Thanks everyone! [Software] LDCad - LDraw cad
legolijntje replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Well, I'd like to, but to be honest, I don't have much information... I viewed the model in LDview and one of the stickers was looking weird (aside from missing a few stickers). So, Darats (the file author) said I probably had an older version of one of the stickers. I realized I didn't had the newest parts library and hadn't updated the unofficial files in a while. So to solve both the wrong and the missing stickers, I just updated everything at once. It also solved LDCad's problem, but that was completely 'unintentional'. I planned to take a better look at that after fixing the stickers. I wasn't expecting to fix LDCad by just updating a few parts So, I can't tell you a lot more than that It's highly likely though, that one of the (missing) stickers was the problem. The other parts are all very general parts and have probably been in the official library for a while now. In LDview, the only problems I had (before upgrading the parts) were stickers. -
[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad
legolijntje replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yup, there were some problems with the parts. There were 2 parts that were outdated and a few I didn't have (stickers). I've updated everything and it loads fine now. Still, I think it would be better to load the model with a warning instead of just completely crashing when there's a problem with the parts. -
I've just tested it and yup, you're right. That reminded me, I haven't updated my unofficial library in quite some time...

[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad
legolijntje replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hey Roland. When I load one of these 2 files made by Darats (set 5521), LDCad crashes. Do you maybe have any idea why? I'm using 1.5 beta 1b though, so not the newest version. -
I don't know if LDview is acting weird or you're model is wrong, but when I look at 5521 A model, the sticker with the blue line and a small 28 is positioned straight instead of at an angle...

I personally am a big fan of LDCad. Especially the new 1.5 (Beta) with the new source-window. For me, it has almost everything that I liked from SR3D Builder (the ease of building) and almost everything that I liked from MLcad (the more advanced features and the source-editor). And, besides that, the flexible part editor in LDCad is amazingly powerful and easy. It isn't LSynth compatible, but because it generates a part in the MPD file, it's still compatible with other viewers (e.g. LDview, LPub). Of course, it's a matter of preference and I can imagine that if you've been using MLcad for years and years, you've grown used to it. But I started LDraw with SR3D Builder years and years ago, and I've always found MLcad kinda annoying.
