42056 - Porsche Speculation
legolijntje replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's an interesting observation! I hope that they do a Lamborghini next. Porsche is nice, but Lamborghini is You never know, Lego had a few Lamborghini sets in the Racers line a few years ago. Regarding the Porsche: looks great, but the steering wheel 'block' looks awful compared to all the other curved lines. Also the price... -
Well, to be honest, there's only been 1 rule change (the thing about bricks in new colors). This whole discussion is just about the interpretation of the rules... I mean, the rules are not the law book. You don't have to win some case with it. It's just written by 2 simple people, for a simple contest In the end, the rules are there to keep the contest fair and equal for everyone, not to debate about that single word in sentence 12, paragraph 15, chapter 6. If there are any questions, please leave them here and don't start another discussion.
-
Well, we thought that it was clear from the beginning, but it wasn't apparently. We (Superkalle and me) never considered the fact that the 2 words '10 models' could be interpreted differently. We didn't change the rules, we just had to chose 1 interpretation as the definitive one. If you feel you're at a disadvantage (by the rule 'change'), I'm sorry. We can't make everyone happy, even though we'd like to very much I understand your concerns about quantity vs quality. When setting up the contest, we were really trying to make the contest as 'free' as possible, while maintaining a certain limit to make it fair for everyone and keep the quality as top priority. That's also why there is the 10 model limit (which in hindsight could have been formulated better) and the parts limit. And so far, it seems to be working quite well with a lot of very nice entries.

Well, if you want to know, I have an Intel quad-core i5 unlocked (overclockable) running at stock speed of about 3.7 GHz I believe, the GPU is an AMD r9 280x and 16gb of RAM. But, that's all probably (highly likely) overkill for LDraw based tools. I think with basically any modern dual or quad core and decent graphics card, you can run LPub, LDCad, MLCad, whatever other tool is out there without any problems.

Very nice! A couple of tips regarding your LPub layout: It would be better if you make the parts images in the parts lists smaller and keep the assembly image at a 1:1 scale instead of the other way (like you have now). It would also fit better (I think) if you rotate the page 90 degrees. The model is long and not high, so a page format that is longer than it is high would fit better. Don't take it the wrong way, I really appreciate the (free!) instructions. Just some tips

As the others said, if there are too many non-existent brick/color combinations, your model will be disqualified. I think the red/blue one can be kept a lot as it is (but don't take me on my word), but I think (again, I'm far from 100% sure) the purple one either needs a re-colorization or some other way of making it purple. Or you can swap it with another model (there's still quite some time left). I understand that might feel annoying (and your models do really look very awesome!), but we have to draw a line somewhere. I hope you understand

Hey Zoltank82. Nice work you keep adding! I see you're creating the necessary stickers yourself. Did you ever consider to add them to the LDraw part tracker so they might become official parts?

Mecabricks website is down?
legolijntje replied to Jdhfh's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
It's probably a DDOS on the servers that (among others) Mecabricks is hosted on, not a DDOS on Mecabricks itself. -
I saw that this listing has popped up on the website from No Starch Press. It's a 2nd edition of the book we pretty much all have or want According to the page it'll be released in september this year and it's about 50 pages longer than the first edition. Now: I'm in no way affiliated with this book, I just thought some people here might be interested in this 'news' (at least it's news for me).

Project Shipyard
legolijntje replied to Edwin Korstanje's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I know, I know, I'm resurrecting a ancient topic from the dead, but I came across this Catawiki auction. The highest bid is just under €300 now. I'm amazed that people are willing to pay so much money for a set that's not even an 'official' Lego set. I'm wondering; how much did it originally cost in Damen's webshop? -
Very nice I've had two of those 'type' of hamsters in the past (not at the same time). One of them was very cute and very easy to pick up, play with and whatever. The other one only looked very cute. It was very aggressive and always bit me (I was almost never able to pick it up). I was wondering this for a while now: do your hamsters every bite you? In the videos they always seem to be very used to you and your hand and never bite or attack you. Or haven't we seen all clips?

[MOC] Peugeot 205 Turbo 16
legolijntje replied to zux's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Interesting use of those (tan/white) Bionicle parts in the back -
 Yes, they are (relatively) expensive. I believe you can also buy them from Lego (Pick a brick), but that doesn't bring down the price a lot. A lot of people (myself included) use beads or other plastic balls (I bought mine on eBay). It doesn't matter a lot which ones you pick, as long as they are as round as possible (preferably without bumps or holes) and as close in size as possible compared to the 'real' Lego balls.

It's not a problem if you create a WIP topic, but it's not a must either. That's completely up to you. If you do want to create a WIP (or presentation) topic, please post it in the subforum that best fits your idea (unless Superkalle would like to keep everything here, Superkalle? ). As long as you post your entry in the entry topic in this subforum, you're free to do what you want regarding posting your idea/models/whatever. It's yours after all
-
Haha, it's indeed a little weird sentence. I believe it means that we encourage people to vote for the best models and not just vote on a particular entry because 'That movie was super cool!" while the models are something a 3 year old could build with his feet, as an extreme example We don't forbid anything and everyone is free to vote whatever he/she likes, it's just a... tip I guess. It's completely up to you if you make 3 or 6 sets. The rules state a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 10 with a total part count of 5000. Yes, no problem.

Well, we should keep it a little bit realistic, hmm? You never know, maybe someone likes your MOC so much that he/she would like to build it with real bricks What do you mean with a made-up logo? Well, was it only an 'idea' or did you already made whole models or something. The rule is that you shouldn't have posted the models before. An idea is something different. The forum index contains some links to topics with guides for rendering both LDD and LDraw and I believe also for Mecabricks. No problem with a theme based on movies or series. Regarding the spin off: good question. I guess your second option is at least highly preferred. There should be at least some creativity
