The second one for my personal Castle lay out, this one might have been pushing it a bit close. I wanted it ready for Brick Mania this weekend, so two days ago I was pushing on the final light blue studs for the water, while yesterday i was making the pictures, only to be able to upload it today. This is also the first one including an actual MOC I made before, namely my `Beacon of Merak` which I made past june for the Frozen Beyond collaboration over on Eurobricks Guilds of Historica. I was happy back then with how the actual fire turned out, but I didn`t have time to build a surrounding base, something I finally managed now. The idea was to have the beacon placed near the riverside of the Merak village, so that it could be widely visible if they would be lit and the North was under attack as happened in the collab storyline. I included the old castle ship to have activity on the water, while they had to make room for a casually passing by whale that sprouted up water. The guard of the Beacon has been on duty here for a long time (since 1978 it seems ;-) ) In the meantime, shipspotters are enjoying the view and the heat of the fire. So that is it, the second plate for my future layout, and probably about the last MOC I`ll be buulding for 2015 (yeah right, as if...) as I really need to get back on my big behind and focus on sorting out another huge pile of bricks first.

Merak Forest / Tomsche / Mitgardia Merak River / Tomsche / Mitgardia -
Well, here is the first of the plates I managed to complete for my ambitious Project Merak plan. As I said a few weeks ago, in this I want to create a full fantasy / castle lay out build around my character`s village of Merak, located in the Guilds of Historica Mitgardia. The idea is as such to build plates incorporating excisting (classic) sets, MOC`s and scenery building, and even the odd custom piece or figure left or right. Until all will stand united into a full lay out... The first one incorporates as such two classic sets, the Forestmen Hide-Out and the old Wizard that lives in a treetrunk. And then we add the CMF`s Unicorn and a Mouse Guard traveller by Crazy Bricks... In the scenery department, I went for a mixture of the good old Lego trees, combined with full brick build ones to add variety and colour to the forest livery. Unicorns are by the way magical creatures, leaving flowers in their path. A lone pilgrim passes by the old wizard, unaware perhaps due to a spell of illusion of confundlement? And such is the first of a series of plates that is completed, and I will be hauling it to BMA this weekend. I already completed a second one alongside this plate, featuring my Beacon of Merak MOC, but that I`ll be uploading tomorrow.

Another small vignette I build today for the Tolkien verse, this one came about for two reasons. The first was that I had a spare Radagast figure, as Sylvester McCoy had to cancel for FACTS unfortunatly, and I wanted to have it signed like I did with Gimli. The second is the 2000 Vignettes over on MOCPages Fellowship of the Brick project. The build itself is based on the scene in Mirkwood, where Radagast finds the hedgehog Sebastian infested with at first an unknown disease. After trying various potions, and under the watchful eyes of his woodland friends, he realises it is the dark influence that is slowly stirring again in the forest, and he heals the little hedgehog by means of magic. And he does this while something very evil is right outside the window...

A bit fitting for Halloween, this newest build is trying to recreate the earie setting from early in the Fellowship of the Ring book, where our Hobbits haven`t met Aragorn yet and learn some harsh lessons of the world beyond the Shire. My latest `pure` MOC for the Tolkien verse, Fog on the Barrow-Downs is a not known to not book readers part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. You see, in the movies they get weapons from Aragorn after leaving Bree. In the books, that happened all a bit more adventureous, as they set out of the Shire and came to an ancient burial place, the Barrow-Downs. Inhabited by the spirits of long deceased warriors, Frodo, Samwise, Peregrin and Meriadoc are captured and paralysed, only to be saved by Tom Bombadil. It is from these tombs they obtain their swords, and realise their are far bigger and far dangerous things in the outside world. When I found this nice piece of artwork of the Barrow-Downs, I decided to try and recreate the setting, including the spooky patches of mist that trail Frodo as he approaches the doorway of one of the tombs. In the end, I`m rather happy how this effect turned out, as it seems a light wind is blowing over the hill, but perhaps just a bit to selective to be a natural phenomena...

The first of the display`s I`ll be building for the Jurassic World range, like I am doing for my Tolkien`s, I thought a bit of humor might be in place. And yes, I know the polybags labels them as Gallimimus and that they are actually compy`s, but let`s just say the intern was mistaken as well lol. The first change I made to previous display builds, and which I`ll also be doing with future Harry Potter moc`s, is to add the printed tiles to the front, right next to the name of the display. The display actually features a single `complete` trap polybag set, as well as some more loose beasties. And a plant guy from series 14, doubling as an intern who needed to observe the little critters. The fences are made by using droid arms, wizard staves and cones, and a gate is included to allow access to the paddock itself. Add foliage and the first one of the range is completed.

damn, Ishael is one ugly bugger. Pilots quite a cool vessel though...

Riiiiight... I hope the green was not a RL reference, or you have a problem mate. But it is once again a fantastic story, i really like Eshey`s role in your tales

The latest of my Tolkien sets to get the display treatment, the Battle of the Five Armies set is build up on a raised plate to present it better. Based on the ruined city of Dale where the fighting takes place in the third The Hobbit movie, I tried to recreate the broken city of old. In order to do this I have put some statues around the layout, some with flames to represent the last remnants of the campfires the survivors of Lake-Town had raised there, while rubble lies scattered around the floor. The sides are marked by small remains of other houses, build in the style and colours of the tower from the set. A staircase leads to the bridge of the set, and the trapdoor is placed such that the antagonist would tumble to the street below. And of course, spots of snow are littered around the whole place, to give it the wintery feel from the movie. I hope you like it!

Fred the Hobbit [S1 - E01]: The Soul of Adventure
Tomsche replied to halixon's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
This is a tale worth following, nice builds -
We were leaderless, defeat and death were upon us. That is when I saw him; the young dwarf prince facing down the Pale Orc. He stood alone against this terrible foe, his armour rent, wielding nothing but an oaken branch as a shield... I always liked the tale of how Thorin became known as the Oakenshield, and in the first The Hobbit movie this is detailed rather beautiful, so I sat down to make a small vignette to represent the scene. In it, Azog pounds on him, Thorin defending himself with an oaken branch as a shield before picking up a sword and severing the hand of the large pale orc. To that end, I tried to pay attention to the small detail of not using Azog as he comes in the sets, but to make sure he has his left hand still. I tried to have the branch look as in the movie for Thorin, looking more like a piece of bark then an actual branch there, and to represent `armoured but not king yet` Thorin, I went for his Battle of the Five Armies body with the hair from the The Hobbit wave 1 series instead of the crowned one, giving him a more armoured look. Hope you like it :-) it was a nice break from a lot of sorting and `plate preparing` I seem to have been doing recently...
