What a perfectly valid roleplaying reason to start a fight! Skirmisher-Dragoon synergy? I'll drink to that.

Math, continuing to ignore the argument going on behind him, watches Dreyrugr stalk out of the hall, impressed at so much emotion from the normally taciturn vampire, and turns his attention again to Purpearl. "Will you and Nelvin keep in touch?" he asks. "I see you're wearing his tunic," the gnome adds with a smile.

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
StickFig replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
I start to run out when I'm halfway through one assembled MOC! That's what I keep telling my wife.... Anyone know of a LUG in South Korea? -
Oh come on, it'll be fun!

Matthias can feel his blood rising and the others can see the flush rising up his gnomish neck, but (helped by the sight of Guts' dark ice dagger) he resists the urge to start a fight. He calmly (well, mostly calmly) drains his cider and sets the tankard back on the table. Scheherazade bustles through to replace it, and has to give a little tug - Matthias doesn't realize that he's still tightly gripping the mug's handle. "Thank you," he says to the matron as she puts another Low Kingdoms seidr in front of him. The gnome gives Purpearl his attention as she begins to speak, and as her words tumble out Math finds he's calmer. He runs his hand along the Fireball Extraordinaire's rough iron as the elf mage speaks of cannons and remembers the good times with the Mercutio's Smile. He and the others had done some good, and if Guts couldn't see it, too bad. Matthias shakes his head, thinking to himself that brute strength seems to have worked pretty well for some Heroes. He gives no other indication of his private thoughts though, and says to Purpearl, "I appreciate your encouragement. Thank you."
-
Matthias, more than a little intimidated, is determined not to let it show. He rolls his eyes again, a little less convincingly this time, and says in his tiny deep voice, "I'm not implying anything. I'm saying your 'tactics' were shown to be unnecessary by an elf you called a coward. The fact you think Valentino had anything to do with anything shows how little you know, since he was in an Orcish prison until we secured his release - and did so by saving an Orcish clan leader, and without killing any Orcs I might add." The gnome, having said his piece, turns back to his cider, hoping someone else will draw the alchemist's (or was it raider's?) attention and leave Matthias in peace.

Thanks all, I think that wraps up UoP Doh credit for this build!
-
Comrade Commander, I don't think there is any reason to attack from the front row with your current weapon - you won't do any more damage from the front.

Matthias overhears Guts' outburst and whispers to Purpearl, "They wouldn't slaughter innocents, they'd just use them as meatshields." The gnome rolls his eyes derisively.
-
"Mmmmm," Matthias replies, wondering how a man could live in trouble that badly. "There are a fair number of adventurers in the Hall though; it just seems a shame that so few signed up. What do people join Heroica for, if not to go out and be Heroes?" he wonders out loud.

I sit in awe before the awesomeness of your ship-building (and building in general). I do have one tiny, tiny nitpick: the flags. If the ship is sailing, the wind is from the back, so the flags should be fluttering forwards. If the oarslaves are rowing, it's because there's no wind (or very little wind), so the flags should be drooping lifelessly (which I don't have a clue how to accomplish with the plastic LEGO flags). Other than that, there's nothing to improve - this is excellent.
-
Matthias, one ear cocked to Lady Calmcacil and Master Nihai's conversation, frowns slightly. He has his misgivings about Heroica - mostly just a few heroes - but he didn't like the possibility that his efforts and those of his friends might not be in the right.

Thanks for the credit vote - I don't have a lot of ship bits, since I wasn't really a LEGO Pirates fan as a kid and there are so many other themes I am spending my LEGO budget on now....

Actually I fly helicopters - I learned on a Bell 206.

If EB has shown me anything, it's how much I missed out during childhood

Thanks for the credit vote - added the claim to the top of the post!

Matthias feels his face heat up a little as he realizes his blunder but he has regained his cool as Purpearl returns to the table. "I'm sorry I brought it up," he says as she sits down once again. Wanting to change the subject, he remarks, "I don't understand why more heroes haven't signed up for the next assignment - how hard can protecting one guy for a few days be?"

Scuba just doesn't give us enough credit And then Guts would have all the gold... why didn't you do this again?

The University of Petraea's Doctorate of Historica Program
StickFig replied to NiceMarmot's topic in Guilds of Historica
I'd like to apply for certification of The Ahok in the category Trade and Law: shipping by sea / water. This will mark my first application to the University of Petraea - I appreciate any critique of my build!- 343 replies

I do have a technic axle in the mast, but the problem is that the helm is built into the mast, meaning that the axle can't go all the way down, and it's the same for the crossbar holding the sails - built into the mast, blocking the technic axle. Two failure points = fail.

Wow, excellent - but after looking at the For Sale page, I want to know: does the LEGO version have a Cummins?
-
It would be nice to have a picture with the sword to the side - it covers up too much of the model in this view. Cool Gundam though!
-
Looks pretty swooshy, and I actually like that you've only put a rocket/missile pod on one side with everything else symmetrical. My one comment (as a real life helicopter pilot) is that the source of thrust (those two big fans) seems really unbalanced. The thrusters should be attached as close to the vessel's center of gravity as possible - same with the landing gear. If you moved them up somehow so that they attached between the legs of of the landing gear, it would look more real to me. Anyway, great little ship!

Wow, I wish I had had a LEGO space that cool when I was a kid... who am I kidding, I wish I had a LEGO space that cool NOW! Welcome to EB!
