Matthias opens his mouth to answer the frog, but is confused as Fenral speaks, and then realizes Calmcacil is handling the translation already. He decides to keep his mouth shut for the moment.

Awesome! Congrats Flipz! Just remember we all have very high expectations so if this is the BEST QUEST EV4R no one will ever talk to you again... I think he has a pretty distinct style now, though if Ellaria ends up wearing that spider helmet around...

The gnome beams with pride at the cannoneer's words. He drains the remainder of his cider and hops down from the bar stool with surprising agility, though once on his feet he does seem a bit wobbly. "Letsgo," he says, slurring slightly.

I'm very impressed; holding a lightsaber blade in your bare hands must be difficult!

Without waiting for a reply from the valiant animals - the drinks must really be getting to him, and two in as many minutes is a lot for a gnome, even if he hasn't finished his cider yet - Matthias catches Purpearl sipping her drink out of the corner of his eye. Despite the effects of cider (low quality, terrible vintage, by the way) and Gumball (too fruity for him but he might be persuaded to try another one someday), he can't face the blushing elf mage so he turns back to 'XX'. "What do you think of the Fireball? I know the construction is a little out of date but I saw an issue of Practical Siege Weapons back at the Hall and I think it could become a real keeper with a few upgrades."

And now I'll have to go read a bunch of her quests just to see... Really, I have to say that what people have accomplished here as far as creating a world and a cast of characters is remarkable. And Masked, I'm interested to see how Alexis undergoes her next transformation... =>

Yep! Although with the bare legs I don't know that Alexis has matured much as a character... I'm sure lots of newer players (like me) think of Hoke rather than Benji when they see picture 2! And yes, I know Legonardo's just an NPC, but as a gnome, he's a Hero to me!

Speaking of the early days... My hobby: reading older quests just to see character pictures. Guess who?!

Matthias looks suspiciously at the feminine mage, wondering who she thinks he is that he would drink something girly enough to be named a Flaming Gumball. Holding it in his hand, his first thought is to pass it to the crab, since he did buy Berthadhiell a drink earlier... ...but 'XX' saves him from certain death by social awkwardness. If the big cannoneer can do it, I suppose I can too, the ranger thinks, since this quest might have become a girls' night out if not for Ruffers, Pigley, and 'XX'. "Thanks," Matthias says to Purpearl in a voice even deeper than his normal bass. He quaffs the liquid in as masculine a manner as a gnome drinking a Gumball can muster. Ugh, exactly what he was afraid of - girly mushy stuff. "Sure, whatever," he says, but he's secretly glad to be a member of the team. Thinking of the crab again, Matthias looks around low to find Ruffers and Pigley. "How did you two enjoy your ride? Mine was awful," he says, the drinks beginning to work their magic to loosen his tongue.

Matthias, worried that his purse might be getting a little light, nonetheless can't turn down a cider after his experience with the Hell Horses. "One cider, please," he says to the bartender, placing four shiny coins and one dull one on the bar. Turning to 'XX', the gnome does his best to swallow his distaste for the man, and asks, "Did you build that cannon yourself?" As he waits for a response, Matthias glances around the bar, wary after their last tavern experience, and notes all the exits, as well as any patrons that are watching the party too closely, before turning his eyes to the main door to watch for Calmcacil and Taylor coming back inside.

Matthias, rubbing his sore legs and flexing his chafed hands, is already put off by the smooth director, actor, writer's pompous air. Thankfully it seems Calmcacil is taking the lead in dealing with Taylor, so the gnome looks around for a bartender, wondering if this place serves cider.

"To the tavern it is," Matthias says to Ruffers, nodding his agreement with Purpearl.

The gnome manages to give Purpearl an unconvincing nod. "You certainly do it well," the ranger replies, still holding on for dear life. Matthias translates for the others, adding, "I don't mind either way; let's just ask the first person we meet."

Cool! I saw him do a stand-up act about ten years ago - he's a great entertainer. Very jealous. Matthias struggles almost as much as Pigley and Ruffers with his mount, but thankfully everyone is distracted by the spectacle of a crab and a pig atop (eventually) a Hell Horse. He uses his cannon as a sort of ladder, leaning it gingerly against the fiery, intimidating animal, scrambling up to the saddle, and pulling the Extraordinaire up behind himself. Once seated, the gnome grips the reins tightly, alternately leaning in towards his steed's neck to avoid falling off, and sitting up straight, trying to stay away from the animal he's sitting on as much as possible. "Whoa, whoa," the others hear him mutter repeatedly as they ride, but only Nerwen, Pigley, and Ruffers can understand. Straining to stay in the saddle, his feet not reaching anywhere near the stirrups, Matthias nearly loses his balance as Purpearl calls out. He nods in her direction. "Hell Horse," he mutters into his mount's ear, wondering what a more proper term of address might be, "do you know anything about our errand?"

Done. Matthias wonders what Bric'Lin is like. "I wondered why those watchmen wouldn't come with us, but if we're going a day's journey out to another city, it makes more sense," he remarks to no one in particular. "Don't worry, Sir Pigley, we have six days to find Master Aventine before this is over," he adds.

Still wondering about this - Zepher, will we get damaged if XX uses Barrage/Bombard with Bomb XX or Bomb XXX? There it is again, Matthias thinks to himself. Healing. How much more could I bring Heroicans together by simply restoring their phyiscal bodies! At least Lady Nerwen is here this time. As Alexis draws his attention, his eyes remind him of the Were-Raven she'd been talking to before the attack. "'ello, did I hear you say you were a professional problem-solver?" he calls out to the birdlike being. "What would it cost us to have your help in solving our little problem here?"
