    [M-B06] MANTIS Ski-Boat

Location: B06, Sorn Tags: Water Vehicle, Vehicle, Job: Driver Start Log: Stationed on Sorn to patrol the waters, I got to use a MANTIS ski-boat which is quite a fun ride! Plenty of speed and maneuverability, plus some serious firepower. I was messing around with the black ski parts and liked how they looked in a diamond shape, so decided to use them as skis for the boat. The windshield opens to allow access to the cab, and the propeller spins. The water design is made using only 2×2 round plates. Comments and suggestions welcome

    [K-B06] Package Delivered

Location: B06 Sorn Tags: Civil, Building, Water Vehicle ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The nice thing about a water world like Sorn is that it has far more usable surface area than a dryer world like Onix. In addition to the planetary surface, many facilities are build submerged in the water or on the seafloor. Many of these are hydroponic farms, but some are research labs. Differences in pressure, buoyancy of materials and staff, and relative safety from espionage satellites and spacecraft are just a few of the reasons for building dry or flooded laboratories in the seas of Sorn. "Is that were you're taking me, then?" "Yes. Spyrius has arranged for you to be delivered here. Once you have completed your work with them, you will be provided compensation, as well as funds sufficient to buy you passage anywhere you want to go." "Spyrius?" "Yes, Spyrius. They're an old company - been around almost as long as Exploriens. They did robotics and stealth technology. They were not, however, a very large business, and a nasty sequence of media disasters more or less finished them. They still have plenty of facilities in the Milky Way, and even a few out here, but they've never really been able to compete. This operation is their bid for a comeback." "How long will this take?" "Not very, I shouldn't think. I'm told that most of what they need is contained in that cargo we took from your courier ship, and the rest shouldn't take long. They don't need to you build anything for them - all they want is your theories." "As if they would tell you," Gregorovich muttered. "I don't take a job until I know all the details," I said. "You will be treated well, and you will be on your way home as soon as possible." "I'll believe that when it happens." I shrugged. "Again, it's your choice. The more you cooperate, the quicker this whole process will be, but I assure you that no one is sending you home until Spyrius has all the information they need from you." "Spyrius?" Silvia asked, after Dr. Gregorovich and his cargo had been left with Spyrius agents. "Yes, didn't I tell you? I was sure I did." "No, sweetheart, you forgot again." "Oh, bother. Sorry. Yes, Spyrius really is a corporation - or was. The Kawashita family bought them up quietly a long time ago - they're a puppet company, but the ownership, I'm told, is buried in seventeen layers of trust funds and holding companies. They still conduct research - things like spaceship design, stealth technologies, alternative propulsion, and the like." "Okay, I get that, but why bother?" "Generally speaking, I would say that it's helpful to have alternate companies to conduct any research you'd rather not be caught doing. In this specific case, the only people Dr. Gregorovich will see, speak to, or hear about will be employees of Spyrius - and ourselves, and he thinks we're mercenaries. Octan doesn't have a file on us and our crew yet, and it could be quite some time before they do. By the time they figure out what was stolen from them and by whom, it'll be to late for reprisals." "Clever." "I know, isn't it? We have no new orders for the time being, and that last mission gave us a splendid little bonus. Set a course, won't you?" "Where to?" "I'm not particular. Somewhere you'd like to go." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Didn't have as much time to work on this as I hoped. The water is not something I'm very proud of. Please note that the Variga is from a previous build and not to be judged.

    [M - B06] Everyting is Awesomnium

Location B06 - Sorn Tags: Engineering, Mining, Vehicle Operation low hanging fruit: M.A.N.T.I.S. explorers discovered several deposits of Awesomnium in the shallows of Sorn near a small cluster of islands in the southern hemisphere. I was dispatched with a mining group to establish a collection platform. The Awesomnium is bountiful in this location. We've been collecting for days and have much more to gather before we can move on. Underwater collection miners fill the Awesomnium barrels which are moved to a larger island facility by amphibious wagons where they are prepped to be moved off of the planet. M.A.N.T.I.S. Engineer Donnie Bricko signing out. -D

    [M - B06] MANTIS HQ

Location: B06-Sorn Tags: Civil, Building, Vehicle, Exploration Job: Explorer This week, I was sent to a MANTIS HQ on Sorn, to explore under the surface. It was teeming with wildlife and plants, some of which I took samples of. There was a boat load of supplies being unloaded too: Lots more pictures here: Link I really like how this build turned out, especially the underwater section. C&C welcome

    [M-B06] Great things are afoot

Location:B06-Sorn Tags:exploration, land vehicle, civil building https://www.flickr.c...0338@N08/C378q1 Sorry but this time I haven't been able to post the build directly here because of a glitch in the Matrix or whatever it was. I have provided the link for the flickr album with photos and story. WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE fixed. Dr.Arvan ‘Yrich Arkov’s personal log: “Something is happening. I feel like awakening from a dream, just to discover it was real… The deep-buried secrets of this galaxy arise to the surface, remnants of long-forgotten kingdoms. It is true; we know it. What had me ridiculized by the laymen’s skepticism now bathes in the blazing sunlight of the alien suns. The recent discovery of a crashed derelict on Terrial Major was the final proof that rekindled my superiors’ trust in my beliefs. Operation Architects lives again. The next step of my research awaits on the marine paradise of Sorn, on a little isle deep within Kawashita territory. It will also be the chance to test a new exploration and transport vehicle, the MX-Grasshopper, specifically designed (by me) to swiftly carry equipment into and out of our enemies’ borderlines.” Sorn by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Kevin: “Hey Doc, be careful with that. It be my exploration stuff!” Dr.Arvan: “Kevin, firstly, this is not “your” stuff, it is M.A.N.T.I.S. property; secondly, this is not “stuff”, it is a finely designed descent wire.” Zeni’ya: “Wow, it’s barely long enough… I can see water; it could be an underground lake or river.” Dr.Arvan: “There’s light too…this means technology, which means developed alien civilization, which means a step forward in my research!” Kevin: “Which means lootable stuff as well!” Dr.Arvan: “There’ll be a time for looting, Kevin. But this is a research mission. We go, we look, we record, we leave. Clear enough?” Kevin: “Yeah, yeah…” Dr.Arvan: “Well, time to penetrate the mineral hide of this watery world and explore its schistous bowels, whatever mistery may stand awaiting…” Zeni’ya: “…in hope of finding a trace of the Magratheans, so that we may be rewarded in wisdom, glory and higher paychecks.” Kevin: “I be the explorer. I go first.” Sorn2 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Kevin: “Whoa.” Dr.Arvan: “Breath-taking.” Sorn3 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Kevin: “Ok, there’s a creepy dead guy lying right here. This may puzzle you sciencey guys, but “creepy dead guy” in explorers’ language means one thing: booby traps. Yeah.” Zeni’ya: “Isn’t it a bit offensive? Let me explain, any civilization that should leave lethal concoctions to guard their treasures and knowledge would do so because they think that anyone that stumbles across them would be greedy and blind to the chance of learning. Isn’t that a bit pretentious?” Dr.Arvan: “That’s logic. It’s just lack of trust. Let’s move on.” Sorn4 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Kevin: “Ok Doc. This is just a by-the-book exploration. Alien temple. Creepy dead guy. Frozen guy. Button-looking device. Next step? What does your sciencey head tell you?” Dr.Arvan: “Er… push the button?” Kevin: “NO! Button-looking device is booby traps! Left to trick sciencey heads!” Dr.Arvan: “Ok, ok. Then what? You’re no sciencey head. You’re the explorer. Yet you’re too frightened of a trick to do your job. This sciencey head is going to push the button, and you, girly guy, are going to become M.A.N.T.I.S.’s laughing stock!” Kevin: “I BE THE EXPLORER! I PUSH BUTTON! YOU STAY BACK!” Sorn5 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Sorn6 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Kevin: “What…?” Dr.Arvan: “I suddenly remembered my training. “In case of button-looking device, have an explorer push it.” CHANDRAXERE’ MAYENDRA-CHRIXEYRICHI AKUURA. CHANDRAXERE’ MAYENDRA… Zeni’ya: “Droid fiend! Destroy it!” Sorn7 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Kevin: “Take this!” Sorn8 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Kevin: “EEEEEEEEEK!” Sorn9 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Magrathean: “Yaleenar! Enough of this!” Sorn10 by tropeaferdinando, su Flick Droid: “Chaxara. Yes, Master.” Sorn11 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Dr.Arvan: “Thanks gentle alien. I am Dr.Arvan ‘Yrich Arkov and these are my assistant Zeni’ya and explorer Kevin. Who are you, exactly?” Magrathean: “My name does not matter." Sorn12 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Zeni’ya: “How exactly it doesn’t? You’re a stranger to us, and I assume it would be much easier to address you with a more precise denomination than “old, bearded, almost hippy-looking alien”, not to say it would take much less time.” Magrathean: “Oh well… I’m called Zartiblartstaff, and I’m the designer of this planet. Yep. I’m an ocean specialist.” Sorn13 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Zartiblartstaff: “Charlaxes avraineth. Here, you see it.” Dr.Arvan: “Goodness gracious… one of the Architects stands alive before me… I-I’m deeply honored, O Immense Zartiblartstaff, and hope you will grace us with more of this Magrathean knowledge. Yet I couldn’t help but notice you speak our language. How can you do this?” Sorn14 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Zartiblartstaff: “When you pushed the button, you reactivated the room and its machinery. Your discourse matrix was then extrapolated and telepathically transmitted to my brain. Much more efficient than the old Babelfish. “ Sorn15 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Zartiblartstaff: “Alas, this is not the time for tales of the past. This galaxy is in danger; You must help me, or we will be late.” Kevin: “Late?” Zeni’ya: “ You speak of a danger; what danger is it that you talk about?” Dr.Arvan: “Indeed; we will help you, O Probable Source of Our Future Glory, Prizes and Pecuniary Reward, though, we’re scientists, and we could use a more specific explanation! What prevents you from telling us more?” Zartiblartstaff: “We have a deal, human, but I can only say that… great things are afoot.” extra pics: Sorn extra pics by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Sorn extra pics 2 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Sorn extra pics 3 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Sorn Extra pics 4 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Sorn extra pics 5 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr Sorn extra pics 6 by tropeaferdinando, su Flickr

[M - B06] In at the Deep End

Location: B06 Tags: Vehicle, Land/Water vehicle, Military Henry Moose Personal Log 02 Augustali 3815 Well I guess whilst I joined MANTIS for the variety and excitement I didn't really expect this: Last week freezing on Terrial Minor and barely escaping intact; This week acting as chauffeur for some special ops guys on Sorn; a mix of marines and combat engineers. I at least expected some kind of fancy dropship to fly but no I get a floating brick of an amphibious assault vehicle; something about trouble taking down Kawashita air defences. So the plan was to go in on the water, to establish a beach head on an as yet unexplored and unexploited island chain north of Kawashita's main area of operations. Out of the water the amphibious transport handled just as badly as in the water; she was a real pig. Still we got there, feet dry, and nobody shot at us so I count that a success. Now we just need to level an LZ before we can drop in the Awesomnium harvesters. Spec ops should be opening a window in the Kawashita sensor and air defence coverage just long enough to land the heavy gear. Then the plan is to act like we were here all along should the Kawas come calling. Some more shots of the tank:

    [M - B06] Stranded on Sorn

Tags: Piloting, B06 Open Log #who knows. I got sent here shortly after my mission with that drone 2 weeks ago. I was letting the autopilot do most of the work while discussing the signals from deep in the galaxy with my fellow pilots: Master Data and Henry Moose. So what are we going to do if this is some kind of massive alien threat. We already have a bunch of Stupid Kawas in our airspace. I vote for building better ships than anything anyone has and then blowing them up. Most of M.A.N.T.I.S. is special forces or something else. We really don't have the man power. Maybe Lady K could promote one of us to admiral or something. I'm sick of having to get security clearance every time i want to build something and i don't have an engineer with me. That would be useful. We don't have enough engineers or drivers either. Well i'm almost to my kzkkkzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz loc kkkkkzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Stupid radio. Computer: All systems except for essentials shut down. 2 days later Moose do you copy? My ship has been drifting in the atmosphere for 2 days and i just now fixed the radio. I copy. We were wondering what happened. My hatch is jammed and i don't want to damage this prototype i built myself in order to get out to fix the engines. Well we can't really send a team to fetch you or fix your ship, they're alll working on those insane blueprints you sent. Lady K also says you get to command it, but only if you finish in time. We're actually building it! But i'm still stuck here giving instructions over radio and hologram. 8 days later: So i've been sitting here for 8 days giving instructions from the proto Classified. End Log Additional picture Edit: Oops. The title should say [M-B06] Stranded on Sorn

    [M - B06] Mission K8B06

Location: B06 Tags: Vehicle, Land/Water vehicle, Building, Military Ah, finally I get to have my revenge on Kawashita for capturing me last time I was on Sorn. And you're sure you'll be able to disable their defenses? Of course, Captain Read! Let me tell you again about my heroic escape... That won't be necessary- It all started a month ago when I woke up in a dank cell... Wha... where am I? Nowhere you'll like. You're a prisoner of Kawashita now, and your... 'debriefing' is about to start. Come with me. Let's start with something easy. Who are you? Who do you work for? I'll tell you nothing! M.A.N.T.I.S. agents are trained to resist torture! So you work for M.A.N.T.I.S.... Damn it! We may as well skip ahead. We know you're Big Sal, first branch executive and chief scientist of M.A.N.T.I.S. You may as well admit it and save yourself some pain. Big Sal? Never heard of him. What kind of name is that anyway? What? Well, is Big his first name? Or is Sal? But then what's his surname? I...uh...hang on... You'd best check your intelligence - sounds like you've got it all mixed up. You don't tell me what to do! Guard, take him back to his cell! This isn't over for you... Pssst! Mr Sal! Never heard of him! Who are you? I'm Dr Wu's assistant, remember? I don't understand why you're being kept prisoner. I hope this won't affect Dr Wu's chances of getting the Nobel Prize! Wait, you still believe that? Maybe the Persuadomatic's effects are permanent! Or maybe this guy's just really dumb... What was that? Uh... I mean, yes, I'm afraid this will affect her chances. You need to get me out of here right now so she can still get the recognition she deserves! Oh, right away! Nice work! This way! When we get to the top floor I'll distract the guards so you can sneak past them. So I said to him 'Kawashita? I hardly know her!' Heh heh heh. HAHAHAHA! How funny! You again? For the last time, the prisoner isn't from the Nobel Prize Committee! Speaking of which, I'd better go check on him. Damn! Best find another way out... No, wait! Get out of the way! Freedom! These look nasty. May as well hack in a remote backdoor access in case we ever want to come back here and free the other prisoners. PRISONER ESCAPED! SOUND THE ALARM! Uh oh... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! ...and then I swam all the way back to M.A.N.T.I.S. territory! Uh, yes Sal, while I'm sure the troops are very inspired by your story, we're nearly in comms range of the outpost, so you'd better get on with disabling their missiles. We're in weapons range now Captain. Very good. Acquire targets. How's it going Sal? Getting there... Captain! We're detecting their weapons powering up! Sal? They're targeting us! SAL! Oh sh- INCOMING! -------------------------------------------------------- <TRANSMISSION LOST> -------------------------------------------------------- <TRANSMISSION REESTABLISHED> -------------------------------------------------------- Damage report! Shields took most of the damage Captain. All systems operational except long range comms. We've really got to start using our own software... Return fire! Take out that missile battery! Firing now! Target destroyed! Excellent! Move in! Commander, prepare your troops for Mean and Nasty Invasion! Well, I finally got to tell the tale of Big Sal's captivity. Unfortunately it made the post a bit long - thanks if you made it to the end! C&C welcome! A few more pics in the spoiler.

    [K - B06] Flying Dragon

Location: Sorn (B06) Tags: Kawashita, Airplane, Spaceship, Sorn, B06 Flying Dragon Aera’s Diary Junali 29, 3815 Sorn Second week on Sorn. Endless hours of sun dancing in the waves below. Days pass. Everything runs together. All I can see is blue and the constant flashes of light. I close my eyes and lie back in my bunk. I am still soaring over the water. Lips parched from the salt air I squeeze my bottle dry and throw it to the floor. We are stationed on some rock that’s not much different from the others I have flown over. There’s nothing here, but there is beauty in austerity. The sky meets the water someplace on an infinite horizon. Two lovers, arms outstretched, always just out of reach. The emptiness of this place fills your soul. I’ve felt a peace and tranquility here that I have rarely known. Between missions I lose myself in reports. My hands shake from the stims. Long hours spent on classified work and longer hours in the air searching for the enemy. I try to get some sleep. Feels like the first I have had in days. ::: Start transmission ::: Blackhawk: Aera? Aera do you copy? Aera: Blackhawk... Glad to have you here with us. You've been a great help! Blackhawk: It’s about time my luck has turned for the better. Ow! Aera: ??? Blackhawk: I hit my foot on the panel. Broke it when the torpedo fell on it during mission prep. Aera: ... Blackhawk: I’ve encountered a Mantis patrol and I’ve engaged them. I have things under control here, but I spotted their main convoy. I’m sending you the coordinates. Aera: Alright! I’ve got just the thing! Save some for me! Blackhawk: I don’t think that’s going to be a problem… ::: End transmission ::: My heart races as I run through the hall. This is what I'm here for. So many days of searching have come to an end. It's time to see what we are up against. I’ve given my team the Reppū fighters. We’ve brought the big guns to Sorn - the Hiryū! A heavy assault bomber, this thing means business and I aim to make good use of it! Kawashita KB-66 Hiryū (飛龍, "Flying Dragon”) Seen on the front lines of most Kawashita assault operations, the Flying Dragon is an anti-cruiser bomber that sees double duty as an air-to-ground platform planet side. Housing no less than 6 Kawashita KE-280 engines, the Flying Dragon earns it's title as one of the most powerful sub-cruiser class ships in Kawashita's service. Featuring 8 hardpoints, a large payload area, 2 double-barreled blasters, 2 disruptors, 2 nose-mounted cannons and 4 rear-facing gatlings there is little it cannot handle. Variable position wings give the Flying Dragon a mode each for bombing and strafing priority and it's heavy armor ensure it's survivability. Although improved in strafing mode, the turning radius is quite wide, giving rise to the running joke among Kawashita pilots: "Just point it in one direction and shoot. Nothing will remain in your way and won't need to turn!" The long-rumored KB-66C finally nears production and claims to improve maneuvarbility substantially, adding additional verniers on the wings as well as improving the engine timing software. Additionally, the KB-66C adds a second rear facing cockpit for a weapons master position. These improvements and others expect the Flying Dragon to continue it's place on the front lines of Kawashita service.

    [M - B06] Experiment P0B06

Excerpt from the lab book of Big Sal: Date: 28 Junali 3815. Experiment Code: P0B06. Lead Scientist: Big Sal. Location: Kawashita territory, Sorn. Aim: Test effectiveness of persuasion technology. Excerpt ends. I still don't really get how it works. Ugh, it's not difficult Roberts. You know how you can persuade people to do almost anything for money? Yes... And you know how money is based on gold? I suppose... Well then, the mechanics of the Persuadomatic (patent pending) should be obvious! It vapourises gold and expels it as a mist of nanoparticles into the air. Anyone breathing it in will become easily suggestible. Yeah, I'm not sure that makes any... FIRE IT UP! 25% POWER! Excerpt from the lab book of Big Sal: Method: Using gold from Guinevere, the Persuadomatic will disperse a mist of nanoparticles into the air. Prediction: Kawashita scientists exposed to the Persuadomatic will be easily convinced to give up valuable intelligence. Excerpt ends. Stable at 25% power. Those pills we took will protect us right? Sure! Ok, I'm going in! I still think you should have changed out of your M.A.N.T.I.S. colours... Greetings fellow scientists! Uh, who are you? I'm Big Sal! The famous M.A.N.T.I...shita scientist! Did you just say 'MANTIShita'? Erm...no! I said 'mighty Kawashita' of course! Roberts, increase the power! What was that? I said, uh... 'man, I could do with a shower'! Good save... Power at 50%. Anyway, what are you guys up to here? Fill me in on your latest findings. Hmmm, I don't know about that. I'm still not exactly sure who you are? Yeah, if you're Kawashita, what's today's password? Uhhhh... more power damn it! Increasing power to 75% Hey! Dr Wu asked you a question! Stop mumbling! Ok, you got me. I'm not from Kawashita after all... I'm from the Nobel Prize committee! We've been watching Dr Wu and we're very impressed! OHMYGOD! WOOO! Oh, wow, I'm flattered! Yes, it's true! I'm here to conduct our final investigation, so if you could just give me all the details of your work... THIS IS AMAZING! Oh, yes, of course! So, this is our new awesomnium drill and we recently discovered the astounding fact that... What's going on down there? Who's that M.A.N.T.I.S. guy?? NO, HE'S FROM THE NOBEL PRIZE! DR WU'S GOING TO WIN! I ALWAYS BELIEVED IN YOU DOC! Why's he holding a trophy? Isn't the Nobel Prize a medal? ... ... ... Lemme guess? 100% power? Yup! But they've got rebreathers... we may just have to rely on my natural charm and quick wits! 60 seconds later: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! THE NOBEL COMMITTEE WON'T LOOK KINDLY ON THIS! START THE ENGINES ROBERTS! Excerpt from the lab book of Big Sal: Results: Persuadomatic showed promise but was ineffective against Kawashita troops with rebreathers. Conclusions: Why were they wearing rebreathers anyway? Sorn's atmosphere is perfectly breathable. We may have another security breach. Excerpt ends. My first go at SNOT rocks. Not entirely happy with them, but practice makes perfect I guess. Comments and criticism welcome!

"Yes, but we are searching for the missing scientist, Dr. Fabian Killjoy. We don't want to be fast, we want to be thorough." *vroom* "Who knew rescue missions were so much fun!"
