Icons Chevrolet Corvette 2023 Rumour
Johnny1360 replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Oh man, seems a bit harsh but my first impression is, they took a classic, curvey, sexy hot rod and turned it into a flat-faced, block, with rounded corners. I do not think this set does anything for the real car and I am quite disappointed. I can only hope after some time and closer examination, I will change my mind but after my disappointment with the Camaro, I have my doubts. I do like the windscreen though. Do we have a price yet? -
Holy cow, this is quite remarkable, as others have said. Really impressive, don't even know where to start, exemplary work. I have now made it my life's goal to see this in person, hopefully it doesn't get disassembled anytime soon. Thanks

If you mean the common black pins 2m with friction, those come pre-bent from the factory. Something that seems to bother no other person than me. 😂 -
I believe that would be Technic pin with friction ridge lengthwise and pin hole. And while it is indispensable I personally have problems with it.

Big Blue was my first Technic set ever, coming out of a prolonged dark age, so I feel I have come full circle. While I like this set, I do think it quite ridiculous looking, having all those extra booms, jibs and rigging, for such a relatively short main mast. Hopefully it won't be hard to reconfigure, to make it look a little more like it should. It was a bit problematic extending the main boom on big blue more than just one segment. -

I actually replaced the new ones from 42156 with the older double bevel ones, made for a much smoother operation, it seemed that, for me anyway, they meshed too tightly, once the front end clips onto the chassis, bracing the other side of the gears. -
The Love for Printed Pieces Thread/Sticker Resentment Thread
Johnny1360 replied to danth's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I like the idea of having a list of sticker free sets, with prints exclusively. Two recent sets I've built that fit the bill. 75347 TIE Bomber 625pcs 75348 Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs TIE Interceptor 957pcs Both really good builds with decent printed pieces. One thing that drives me crazy with stickers, not that it happens often, mostly with the round stickers is when the print isn't perfectly centered on the vinyl, it just makes it that much harder to correctly install on the part.- 183 replies

LEGO Technic Events Discussion and Promotion Topic

Congratulations, sounds like it was great fun, sorry about not making the podium. I have often wondered how one would go about starting up something like this, unfortunately for me I cannot find even one single person interested in such a competition anywhere even close to me, must travel many miles. Glad to see it was a success and better luck next year. -
So I liked your change, enough so to attempt implementing it on my own set. Unfortunately it seems to be a little bit hard for me to figure out exactly, lol. Any chance you have a couple more pictures to help me out, mostly it is in the area of the stickered piece, which is replaced with ?
-
I can see them, so not sure what's going on. I do like what you have done and think it looks pretty good to be honest, I do think the gun piece looks cool as an exhaust but it does seem overly large, big enough for small pets and children to crawl into, which just makes the whole section look quite bulbous.

Agreed, the whole thing is very nice but the terrain is a real standout for me, great effort and it shows. -

As someone who has been following your progress, I must say it would be much easier if it were all contained in one thread, instead of spread out through 4 or 5 different ones. Anyway looking forward to seeing what's next. -

Right on thanks, nice solution but I think that steering rack could be improved on a bit. I get it though, it can be tough finding a decent solution with limited parts. Thanks -

Looks good, I would be interested in seeing how you worked out the suspension, considering the set only comes with only 2 huge shock absorbers. -

Well they did create a new piece and it is even printed, I would have rather wanted a sticker in this case though, lol.- 5 replies

The NEW mini Brushless Trophy Truck – Pneumatic Suspension+Ball Bearings
Johnny1360 replied to vergogneless's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Cool, thanks for the informative response, I do think it looks a bit better after your update. Regarding those bearings bowing the piece, I can see where that could cause some issues down the line, so I will avoid using them, thanks. As far as the pneumatic suspension, that is an interesting concept, that I will investigate further, may adapt it for my own use even, if I can round up all the spare parts. Looking forward to your next project, enjoy. -
Jurassic Park/World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Johnny1360 replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
New dinosaurs are great always look forward to getting them, however I am very disappointed with the sets themselves, they are all the same dino, jeep and a bit of foliage. At least in the past we got trucks, planes, helicopters, all terrain vehicles, even motorcycles. A little more variety would have been nice, then there's the visitor center with no vehicle at all. And of course the tiresome price argument, seriously the 211 piece Dilophosaurus chase for $20 is about what you would expect but then we have the 281 piece Triceratops Research set at $50, so $30 more for a slightly larger Dino and 70 extra, rather smallish pieces. -
The NEW mini Brushless Trophy Truck – Pneumatic Suspension+Ball Bearings
Johnny1360 replied to vergogneless's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That steering action seems to change drastically from it's low position to it's high position, how's the handling? It also seems like those pneumatic cylinders are more for ride height adjustment rather than working suspension, is that correct? It does look like some fun to drive and while not exactly my cup of tea, I would like to see more LEGO elements used where possible. -

Simply amazing, these type snow machines seem to be relatively popular builds to replicate and I enjoy checking all of different approaches people use. This one however is superb and quite possibly the best yet, if I were to change anything it might be to smooth out the front blade a little, regardless great work man, I can tell you put a lot of thought and planning into the whole build. I would like to see the underside though, always my favorite.- 14 replies

Super work, looks and functions absolutely great. Can never get enough of the belly shots, love to study the mechanical workings, can't wait until this set is available to me, definitely a day one purchase. Hopefully I can make use of some of your modifications, thanks. -
42156 - Peugeot 9X8 Hypercar
Johnny1360 replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Just about finished building this set and I must say I very much enjoyed it. Also glad I bought it, almost didn't, mostly because of negative comments, fortunately I seldom base my decisions on others opinions. However I did have one issue with the steering, not sure if others experienced it or not. During the build process the steering worked very smoothly until the front end module was attached, then suddenly the steering became hurky jerky and was not a smooth operation at all. Checked to make sure I got everything put together correctly, still the issue persisted. Ended up replacing the two blue 12z gears on the steering rack with the old black double bevel 12z gears. Problem solved works smooth as silk now. Honestly surprised nobody has mentioned this issue, as I am sure others have experienced the same problem, maybe it just isn't that big of a deal to others, lol. Also as I was building, I constantly think of alternate models to build and useful ways to utilize new parts, I couldn't help but think of a submarine for a B model, probably just because of the way the whole driver compartment looks and the color. So I already can't wait to tear it down and start working on the sub. Really like this set, even with all the cars LEGO throws us. -
Those look to be perfect for my needs, curious about the price though and how long you have been using them, @TangersTechnic

Johnny1360 replied to Michael217's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looks absolutely great, right on par with your car mocs, keep up the excellent work and please continue to show them. I am curious about how robust the back of the truck is because it looks so realistic as a truck, it also looks quite spindly or flimsy, as a LEGO construct, still think it looks fabulous though, thanks. My favorite views are from the underside, always enjoy seeing how the mechanics work. -
If all else fails just have them send you some pictures when they get there and then tell them what to fill your cups up with.
