    Homemade Road Plates

Thought this might be of interest to anyone creating their own City layout or anyone who wants roads to go alongside their modular buildings or city vehicles. I decided to have a go at creating my own road plates as a substitute to the standard ones that Lego produce. You can find PDF patterns available online for printing roads but instead of using those I designed these myself as I wanted them to look pretty close to the real thing. I then used a high quality digital laser printer and printed them on to 400gsm card which is the same stuff often used by commercial printers for printing business cards. Each one is cut to the same size as a standard 32x32 base plate and I rounded the corners which helps to prevent them from getting bent or damaged. The finished roads are quite thick and sturdy but they are thin enough that the edges can be tucked under the base plates on Modulars and other buildings which helps to hold them in place. They can also be overlapped which is useful for fitting around awkward sized buildings that don't fit the standard 32x32 size. I produced quite a few of these and just like the official Lego road plates, they can be arranged in many ways to create different road layouts. They don't have quite the same appeal as the real thing but I'm pretty pleased with the end result. Considering the cost to make these was a tiny fraction of what Lego charge for real road plates, I think this is a good cheap alternative that works well for anyone who hasn't got the space for a large permanent layout. Below are some pictures of my printed roads being used on a small tabletop City layout. Let me know what you think. **EDIT** Please scroll to the bottom of page 1 to see my second attempts at creating a more realistic road design.

    [MOC] RED LONDON TELEPHONE BOX

Hi everyone It's been a while since I've posted any new MOC's on Eurobricks but I wanted to show the latest project I've been working on called "Red London Telephone Box". In the past I've included miinifig scale phone box's in a couple of my other MOCs, which gave me the idea of building a much more detailed, large scale model of this British cultural icon. Although the red phone box can be found throughout the UK my model is based on an early version of the phone box called the "K2" which was designed specifically for use in London. As well as the phone box itself I've also included a red British pillar box and a street lamp complete with hanging flower baskets and plant pots. The front door can be opened to reveal a vintage telephone and detailed interior. LEGO IDEAS Thanks for checking out my latest MOC and I hope you like it. Whilst designing this I felt that it would make a pretty good submission for LEGO IDEAS. If you'd like to read more about the model or give it your support on LEGO IDEAS then I'd be very grateful. https://bit.ly/legotelephonebox Thank you very much.

    [MOC] RED LONDON TELEPHONE BOX

Hey, thanks a lot. I agree about the top of the pillar box being a bit big. that is something I may re-visit in a future update at some point. Thanks a lot for supporting this. I'm hoping if it can reach 10K then it may stand a better chance of being accepted than some of my previous Ideas submissions.

    LEGO Ideas Discussion

Hi everyone, there are just a few hours left to cast your votes in the LEGO IDEAS "Do You Want To Go To The Seaside" contest. If you've not voted already I'd be very grateful if you could check out my entry and give it your vote if you like it. The model is called Seaside Memories and is inspired by my childhood trips to the seaside. https://bit.ly/Legoseaside

    [MOC] SEASIDE MEMORIES

Hi everyone I wanted to share my latest creation called "Seaside Memories". It's a little beach scene inspired by my childhood holidays at the British Seaside. The model contains less than 250 bricks and is built on a 16 x 16 plate. I've included 2 traditional beach huts and striped deck chairs, sandcastles, a picnic on the sand and much more. Everything you need for a fun day out at the beach. The beach huts both feature simple interiors details. I entered this model in to a recent LEGO IDEAS contest to design a seaside themed set. I'm really pleased to say that today it has been chosen as one of the 15 finalists in the contest. It's now down to a public vote to decide the winner and if this model wins it will be made in to a future gift with purchase LEGO set. If you like the look of the model then I'd be hugely grateful if you could give it your vote on LEGO IDEAS. Voting is open until 25th May. https://bit.ly/Legoseaside Anyway thanks for checking out my latest MOC and feel free to let me know what you think.

Glad you like it. Thanks a lot. The minifigs will be having an even happier time by tomorrow if this one gets the most votes and wins the contest.

    [MOC] SEASIDE MEMORIES

Thanks very much, I'm glad you like it. Yes these kind of traditional beach huts seem to have had a resurgence in popularity over the last few years and apparently there is a waiting list for people desperate to buy them. They certainly do have a lot of charm and character. Anyway thanks a lot, I'm glad you like the model.

    Problem with Lego Ideas

Hi everyone I have been working on a design recently which I want to add as my first entry as a Lego Ideas project. I am having problems setting up my account though. I logged in to Lego Ideas using my standard Lego ID which I set up years ago and doesn't have the same user name that I use on here or Flickr. I want them to match though so that people can easily find my project once I've added it to Ideas. Under account preferences on Lego Ideas there is an option to change the username but when I try to do this it just throws up an error message and wont let me do it. Has anyone else had problems with this and if so how did you solve it? I've emailed the Lego Ideas customer service but they haven't got back to me and I received an auto generated message basically saying that they are a small team and it might take them a long time to reply to emails. So I'm not holding my breath that I'll ever hear back from them.

    [MOC] The Village Post Office

Hi everyone It's been a while since I've posted a MOC on Eurobricks, in fact this is my first new MOC for over a year and the first building I've designed for almost 2 years. Anyway this is my latest creation "The Village Post Office". The model represents a typical British Post Office from the early 1930's and also features a vintage mail van. At first glance it may look like a modular but it is not. The model features an open back design and the different levels can't be separated. The base is also much different in size and design to a standard modular building. In total the model contains 2262 pieces. Here are some shots of the exterior... Notable features include an iconic red phone box, pillar box a bench and a tree. A series of steps at the side give the minifigs access to the first floor. INTERIOR DETAILS As mentioned earlier the building has an open back to give access to the interiors. On the ground floor is the main Post Office itself. I've tried to give this a rustic, vintage appearance with wooden floorboards and wood panelled service desk. Details include a cash register, lable dispenser, a set of weighing scales and shelves behond the desk for sorting all the mail. Opposite the desk is a parcel wrapping station. The idea for this was stolen borrowed from the Elf Clubhouse set. On the first floor above I've added an apartment which is home to the couple who run the Post Office. This is packed with everything they need including a bed, fireplace, kitchen and an antique gramophone. I didn't have space to include a toilet - but at least they have a bucket. VINTAGE MAIL VAN The mail van is a traditional red style truck as would have been used in Britain during the early 1930's. It is 6 studs wide and features opening rear doors and a removeable roof. The emblems on the van and postman are bespoke prints I created for this model. MINIFIGS AND OTHER DETAILS The model contains 4 mnifigs, a postman, customer and the husband and wife who run the post office and live in the appartment above. I've also included a bike and several animals. LEGO IDEAS My reason for designing this with an open back and with a unique style base was to try and distance it as much as possible from the modular buildings and hopefully give it a better chance of success on LEGO IDEAS. My hope is that if this was lucky enough to reach 10K then LEGO would view it as a standalone building in a similar way to The Old Fishing Store, and not something that would conflict with the modular building series. Anyway I hope you like the model. I had a lot of fun designing this one.. Feel free to let me know what you think. I'd also be massively grateful if anyone would be kind enough to support it on LEGO IDEAS as well. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/16ae1e95-cf30-41dd-ae23-36e07668df05 Thanks very much.

Thanks very much. I'm over the moon it's reached 10K so quickly. And thanks to everyone here on EB who voted for the project on Ideas. I'm really grateful.

LEGO Creator 2021 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

Leaks of the new creator Ferris Wheel and Space shuttle are now online. They look pretty good, especially the shuttle. One of the alternate builds of the ferris wheel looks as if it is a fairground dodgem car ride. Can't make out what the third build is.

    [MOC] The Village Post Office

Thanks a lot for supporting it on Ideas. Thanks very much. I was really pleased it made it to 5K so quickly. Actually it's almost at 6000 now. Thanks. I have thought about designing a railway station before. Maybe that will be my next project.

[LEGO Ideas] Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

A great design. But why has it vanished from Lego Ideas?

    LEGO Ideas Discussion

There was a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory project on Ideas. It was doing well with over 6000 votes I think, and was close to the top on the homepage. Just noticed it has vanished from Lego Ideas. Anyone know why?

    [MOC] The Village Post Office

Thanks very much snaillad, I agree open back designs can work well to show off the interiors. My main reason for doing that was because I didn't want this to be associated with modular buildings. I'm hoping that might give it a better chance on LEGO IDEAS. Thanks very much. Thanks a lot for supporting it. It's almost at 5000 votes now. I put it on exactly 2 weeks ago so I'm really pleased with how quickly it's gaining votes. Thanks very much. Glad you like it, and no I won't stay away so long in future. Thanks.

    MOC: Riad

Looks really lovely. I love the colouring and the tiled patterned floor. Also as other have mentioned, using the backs of of 1x1 tiles for the wall texture gives a very nice effect.
  21. Looks great. Just proves you don't need a huge amount of space to create a decent city display.

    [MOC] The Village Post Office

Thanks very much. Yes I reckon a Christmas alternative of the model would work well. Thanks a lot for supporting.

    [MOC] Autumn Winery

This looks really great. The colours work really well and the trees are very effective. The interior really steals the show though. I really like the dining table and that's a neat technique using the upside down ladder pieces for the chair backs. Also the cabinet next to the table with the stacks plates and ornaments looks very good.

    LEGO Ideas Discussion

There are clearly many more people who use Lego Ideas than there used to be. I have had 2 projects reach 10K in the past but both of them took over 1 year to get there and most days I would be lucky on average to get around 20-30 votes. Last Thursday I posted my new project though and it has already passed 2000 in less than a week. Just today it has received 500 votes in the past 7 hours, (although I assume today is so busy because of extra traffic on the site from people voting for the 90th anniversary set). Anyway I haven't been doing any more promotion than usual on my new project so I can only assume it's gaining votes quicker because there are simply many more people signed up to Lego Ideas.

    [MOC] The Village Post Office

Thanks very much to anyone from Eurobricks who's voted for the model on LEGO IDEAS. It's now passed 1000 votes in less than 4 days. Thanks a lot, glad you like it. No problem, I didn't think your original post was being negative. Thank s again. Thanks very much for supporting it on LEGO IDEAS. There would certainly be a lot of options for a "Village Collection". A bakery, library, school are all possibilities which I think would work better as quaint village buildings rather than large city based modular buildings. Thank you very much for voting. Also for retweeting my twitter post as well. Also fingers crossed for your Sonic set on LEGO IDEAS, it can't be long now before they announce the results.
