Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I wouldn’t mind the jazz club, but i could give the pizzeria a miss, as we already have a Parisian restaurant, downtown diner plus various coffee shops, bakeries donut shops etc. Less food based would be nice, but i think the ‘leaked’ themes are probably spot on.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

So, the allotted time is up, depending on if you believe the hype. Does this mean the jazz club/pizzeria combo rumour is also unlikely??? Half of me would like to be completely surprised by having no accurate leaks or rumours beforehand. I guess it’s just awaiting game now, but whatever it turns out to be, no doubt there will be those that love it, and those that will hate it.

Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion

Most city buyers are town/ city builders and not investors. This thread is for 2022 city, so perhaps pose your question in the more general area. That being said, if you’re buying Lego for an investment, then you need to look at the larger sets, creator expert (Icons) sets, the Star Wars UCS series etc, and be prepared for a fair few years wait for real returns. Popular limited runs have often done well. Stranger things upside down, if still sealed, has done particularly well, but I expect that bubble to burst soonish after the release of the final season.

    [MOC] Old bakery

I’d love to comment, but the images are not showing for me. This is because the security certificate on the website you’re using to host the images expired in 2018. Perhaps nothing you can do about it, which is a shame.

    60197 train issue

Sounds like there was a large drain on the batteries, possibly through friction within the drivetrain somewhere. With that amount of load (weight) being pulled, a little extra friction would be exponentially felt by the motor. I’m no expert in the internals of the train motor bogie, but I’d guess that running non stop for 5 hours plus will have got the gearbox in there, nice & hot, so any fluff and dust would have stuck into the sticky lubricant, which would have cooled and made quite a thick detritus ridden gunk to get the motor moving through. I’d be inclined to try and open up the motor bogie, and check. I can’t tell you how to, but others here will be able to.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I love how we’re all convinced it IS a Jazz club and pizzeria, based on one persons comment (admittedly often right), and an image of a MOC thats been around for a couple of years. I will be interested to see how you might combine these two businesses in one build. Can only be Pizza place on the ground floor, and then a Jazz club upstairs, surely. Whilst I love the interior details, I’m guessing for most of us, they get displayed as a building, so the exterior architecture is just as important. Not sure a New Orleans vibe (as some have suggested) would sit as well with the current modular range. It might stick out like the Downtown Diner does.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I think that the modulars have evolved from the earlier, more simple designs, into more intricate and part dense ones. Meaning part counts rise, but size shrinks. Add in the rising costs globally, and I’m surprised that the part count rumoured hasn’t increased the cost to 250 or more. I don’t like it, but if I’m to continue my modular town, I’m going to have to dig deeper into my piggy bank.

Carousel 10257 - Elephant will not go up down

The first thing I’d check is that the crank mechanism in the ‘roof’ is functioning. It’s here thats likely to be the issue. If the two offset arms have slide a little further apart, or are too tight on the central part, then it will jam up, and cause the tyre to slip on the smooth tiles on the central column. I had this problem when i first built the model, and tightened it all up. I also added a little silicon bike chain lube to the holes in the frames to keep it spinning freely.

    DIY Lighting Up Modulars.

Owing to the costs of lighting kits, some being almost 40-50% of the price of a modular building, I’ve realised that if I want to light up my modular town, I’m going to have to go down the DIY route. Having searched here, and on the web in general, I’ve found lots of conflicting advise and methods, so am going to try to make the best of it I can with my very limited knowledge of wiring. The plan is for each modular building set to have a parallel circuit of either 3 or 5 mm LEDs for interior ceiling based lighting. A few might venture to the outside, like Downtown Diner, to light the sign. Each LED will have its own resistor, to step the voltage from a USB power bank, (5V) to the 3.2-3.4V range required. I’m going to mount the LEDs in the modified plates with holes This will keep the costs down to perhaps no more than £2 per building, once I’ve got wire etc purchased. Before I start, is there anyone out there with experience of doing it this way, or a simpler way, with knowledge they’re willing to share? As I have successes, and the inevitable failures, I’ll try to post here too, once I coerce my flickr account to actually work for pictures.

    DIY Lighting Up Modulars.

Wire availability is an issue, and I’ve made do with scraps I found at work, which are a bit too big to be honest. I have had to replace a 1 stud brick with two one stud plates, leaving a plates depth to pass the wire through. whilst the wires are not that thick, they’re just a little too thick to pass either side of the bottom of a round 1x1 plate.

    DIY Lighting Up Modulars.

WRT to the parallel resistors, then I don’t think I explained it well. To be honest, I’m just learning this myself, through various websites and a bit of trial and error. Certainly had a couple of failures, but luckily nothing causing any damage. If you have a given number of LEDs in a standard parallel circuit, and their individual voltage drop is 3.2V, at 20mA, for example, then you need to place a resistor of a reasonably specific value at the on the lead stemming from the positive power terminal, before the circuit splits. Quite often, this value is not a standard resistor value, so you use a combination of resistors in parallel with each other, to reach this required value. So far, I’ve got two circuits made this way, driven off 5V USB powerbanks. I aim to make a few more now I have some parts in which to hold the LEDs in.

    DIY Lighting Up Modulars.

I’m looking at doing this with a Pi, for traffic lights etc. As for the LEDs, I’m quite restricted by finances so I’ve just gone for some fairly cheap 3mm and 5mm versions for the time being. I’ve had to parallel resistors to get the required current and voltage., but I’ve had to use parallel circuit for each LED, as current drop is too much running from a 5V USB source.

    LEGO Trains 2022

I really think they dropped the ball with the new Hogwarts Express. If they had made that to standard, then the door would be opened to lots of options to build more. As it is, I’m not sure its the end of AFOL trains, but it does limit it. Perhaps our best hope is for TLG to make use of the larger sized wheels in some classic 4-6-2 locos in regular train scale.

    DIY Lighting Up Modulars.

So, Just a little update to this topic. I’ve managed to have a first bash at this, and have placed 6 white 3.2-3.4V 5mm LEDs in a MOC train station build. These are powered from a USB power bank. I had to use 3 resistors in parallel to get the correct voltage and current. It’s all a bit rough atm, as my soldering skills leave a lot to be desired. The LEDs are bare atm, but will look at beautifying them at some point. I’ll post pictures when i tidy it up a bit, and made the second circuit with yellow LEDs in the station masters house that forms the remainder of the build. These need a different voltage, so can’t form 1 circuit for both parts.

    MOC: Liebherr LTM 1030-2.1

This is a very old thread, and in all likelihood, the original photos were hosted on a service that either no longer functions, or the original poster has since removed. FYI - Photos can’t be hosted on Eurobricks, so most of us use photo hosting sites, or if they have them, our own websites to provide the images seen in forums. That’s why quite often, old threads like this lose the images.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

That’s food for thought, as I was going to pick this up for £25 off, but now I’m not so sure. I think I need to hunt down some pictures of it in a modular row before pulling the trigger.

    [MOD] Heinrich Hospital

I love the mix of the old and modern in the style. It’s quite common for schools, hospitals, fire and police stations here. I have a plan for a fire station in a similar way. If you don’t mind, I’ll be using this as inspiration.

    DIY Lighting Up Modulars.

Thanks for sharing Berthil. Some good options there for the outside lamps, that I haven’t yet thought about doing. Interesting that you have one resistor for the entire circuit, rather than 1 per LED, as my plan originally had it. I might experiment. 40 Modulars! Wow. I’ve got 10 of the original Lego ones, plus GBHQ and the Spring Lantern Festival set to do, plus I’m just designing and building my own little town train station. I thought I had a job ahead of me.

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

It might end up being a little like the Winter Market if your thoughts are right. I’d quite welcome it, if that was a case. We’ve only got the last 5 or 6 WV sets.

Hmm, sadly we don’t get that kind of discount in the UK, and importing now we’re not in the EU, is an absolute pain.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

It looks the part, for sure, and will sit much better than the Bugle, in most modular towns. I’ve yet to look how tall it is compared to other Modulars, but think it’ll need to be next to Assembly square or something similar in order to not look out of place. With the Hotel being a corner modular, this makes a lot of corners in my town, should i pick it up. I think it’ll have to be discounted before i do, however.

    [MOC] Toy Store

This is a fab build. Really love the Toy Shop interior. Reminds my of one I remember as a kid. The recessed top 2 floors adds a new twist to the Modular line and means it would sit really well between the Police Station and Hotel with those terraces, and perhaps Parisian restaurant or downtown diner too. Nice to see some attention to the back too, with the alarm, and greenery. Maybe one day I’ll save up to buy the parts.
