At the Gates of Ras El-Ahken

Recommended Posts

After traveling through the Nyika Tupu wastes, and presenting his gift of passage to the A'shan Daes, or The Black Lions as they are known throughout Kaliphlin, Kha shared his story with the nomads. Intrigued by the troubles caused by Revolword, and the current political situation in Nocturnus, the A'shan Daes sent a delegation with Kha to Ras El-Ahken.

With his new bodyguards, Kha traveled on and reached the Gates of Ras El-Ahken. At the gates, Kha was not welcomed as the new Lord of the CIty as he expected, but instead with cold diffidence. The captain of the guard carried the writ of Lordship from the rulers of Kaliphlin proclaiming Kha as the new Lord of Ras El-Ahken, however there was a clear lack of respect for the position, or excitement for the arrival of the new Lord.

(By the way, we finally get to see Kha's hair....he doesn't like to take of his helmet)

Rather than react with outrage, Kha took this all in stride and quietly began to make plans to retake this city in the name of Kaliphlin. He knew that a long road awaits ahead of him, but with strong policy, concern for the citizens, and swift justice, this city could once again regain the fame and proserity it once held as the foremost trading port in Southern Kaliphlin.

Now the real work begins....

As things currently stand, it appears that gambling and cards are more important than guard duty

I plan to have the next chapter of the story/builds bring Kha to the docks to intercept some illegal smuggling and avoidance of tariffs.....

Also, I would like consideration for the UoP credits of: Fortifications, and Minifig posing for the A'shan Daes build

Excellent gatehouse! The octagonal towers look great as do the doors

Nice use of micro-figs and those large octagonal plates as well :classic:

Thanks SK, after buying 6 Mirkwood Elf Army sets, I had to find a way to use those tan octagons!

Great job Kayne! I like the smoothness of the wall, just the right amount of texture! +1 for both credits. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the orange-ish profile bricks, but they worked fairly well here!

Great builds! The turbans and the shield on the smaller build are awesome. You also display a very pleasing combination of sand colors. (guess that comes in handy  )

This is great! I love the raptor, the ATAT helmet, and the minimally exposed brick on the towers (great effect!). I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the story plays out!

Nice city gate! I like how you've managed to use light bley and still make it feel very Kaliphlin. I mean, just because we have a lot of sand above ground doesn't mean that we don't have strong grey granite in the ground to quarry in some places?

My only cause for concern is that the city wall seems to be a bit on the low side, maybe something like the section of the wall above the gate would have felt less easy to scale on a dark night?

UoP DoH +1 for the credits.

Cool build!

Duh, hahaha.

I really like the cleanliness of this build, and the story is as always compelling. I echo the comments on colour use and choice of helmets. it looks really nice. The elongated octagon shapes are a very nice solution on the towers. My only criticism is the cropping on the right hand palm tree in the second shot. The Black lions look superb, are the dark tan capes custom? +1 UoP both claims.

Thanks Robuko! I didn't even notice the cropping on that shot, but now that you point it out, it bugs me too. And yes, the capes are custom. I just happened to be looking around for some cloth at a store to use for capes, and that cloth was an almost perfect match for the Dark Tan Lego color, so I grabbed some to use.
