Thenwell Castle

Recommended Posts

Built for Global Challenge VI in the Lands of Classic Castle. This is for the "Unrestricted" Category. My main goals for this build were: to experiment with using dark green 1x1 bricks for the landscape, using bley 1x2 grill bricks for texturing the castle walls, and to create a 'real' castle feel with the build. The castle is fairly simple, but I think it is the most realistic looking castle I've built yet. As always there is a full interior, this time accesible by a hinging wall.

Thenwell Castle is a small castle in southern Lenfald, and one of the few castles not currently under the "Queen's" control. Lord Thenwell has been amassing weapons and armor to be ready for the revolt. Pepin helps with the stockpiling.

Great castle SK! I quite like its simplicity- although super textured walls fit our image of castles nowadays, smooth walls were common, especially in more modern castles. They'd often paint the walls too- King John of England was known for being the first person to use green paint on a castle (Corfe Castle) in England. I like the landscape, the dark green works really well, and helps the lighter details stand out.

Great job! I'm not a huge fan of grill bricks, but they work fairly well in this setting, and the castle's overall shape is great! Lots of neat details too and I really like your rockwork here!

Thanks LV, it was quite refreshing to build a 'simple' castle :classic:

Thanks Kai, you can expect lots more rockwork like this from me, it's my new 'normal' style :classic:

Love the angles on this build  the rock work is great as well, I like the archway above the doorway into the keep, I'm not familiar with this technique...

Love it! The color theme matches the figures and what I love the most is the castle is designed to be "self-sufficient" (there are living quarters, armory, courtyard). I especially love the living quarters.

This is beautiful Isaac, one of your best yet! The angles are fantastic!

Thanks Matthew, these angles were super easy to build as the walls were only two thick :classic:

Thank you, that archway is made by attaching 1x2 plates to the bottom of a 1x6x2 arch and then adding cheese slopes to the ends of the 1x2 plates :classic:

Wow, such a fantastic castle - really like the interior and beds, such a great touch. Also, I love the use of the minifig stands for the roof, what an excellent use of parts. The snot rockwork is superior. This is great!
