[HELP] Maximum Lifting Force of a Large Linear Actuator

Hello Everybody!

I have a technical question about the large actuator.

I am making a truck mount crane.

And will use 2 large linear actuator to lift the main arm up.

I want to know:

1) the maximum lifting force of the actuator

2) the maximum input torque of the actuator

Could anyone can help on this ?

Why you do not use the new large pneumatic actuators? You have to wait 3 months, but they are awesome! :D

Because the design of the crane is on a 360 degree turntable (unlimited turns).

All power functions are at the bottom side of the turntable.

And I have no pneumatic functions parts. hehe.

Hmmm. The unlimited turntable makes pneumatics impossible... I do not know anything about the actuators, because I love pneumatics more, so I build everything with pneumatic.

From the video, a LA can give out about 3.5kg with a XL motor driven.

If I use a gear set to increase the torque to double XL motor's torque, will damage the large LA ?

Or what is the maximum acceptable input torque of large LA ?

The actuator has an internal clutch that will engage if there's too much torque applied - you won't damage the LA. I don't know what that limit is though. You could find out by trying to drive the actuator past its maximum range of travel.

There is also important question what version of the big Linear Actuators you are going to use. V1 or V2

Hi, I got a nice picture that ilustrates the week and the strong actuators well...

As the link that Milan suggested says, you should check the serial number of the LA, which is next to the axle hole.

The new LA can hold 700,000 newtons- enough to lift my house.

Is that static force, or lifting force? I'm not entirely sure that one LA can hold 71,400 kilograms, let alone lift it!

If you are willing to pull the LA apart and glue the clutch together (the white input shaft to the orange centre) then you can at least double its capacity straight up.

While this video incorrectly shows how a crane lifts its load, it does demonstrate that the LA can actually lift the 8070 supercar. They are pretty strong.

This is off topic to rodor's tech question, but did you see the angry comments for that video? Can't believe that when Nathan Thom, the creator of Rebrickable, wants to do a crane review to see if it actually lifts anything, people explode in fury. What would people say if it was reviewed on "will it blend"?
