LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted May 7, 2017 (edited) Hi everyone, waiting to release the my next locomotive I've taken a break to make a replica of this fascinating wagon found on Lego Ideas (Torpedo Wagon by Stephanix): the torpedo wagon. A torpedo wagon is one of the largest and heaviest cargo wagons in the world (andĀ It is definitely my longest car ); it is used to transport hot liquid iron to the foundry where the liquid iron is poured in to molds. The torpedo wagon has a load capacity of 160 ton ...and I simply love this lego model! Inside the cabin I've inserted a mechanism with a worm gear to tilt the torpedo See you soon... Gioppa Posted May 7, 2017 Excellent, I love that! You have already made two models I want to do, before the triplex and now this!
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted May 7, 2017 Thanks Gioppa, but you already have your torpedo wagon!
Brickwolf Posted May 7, 2017 Great model of an interesting prototype!
Trekkie99 Posted May 7, 2017 When I saw the first pic, which was from a distance, it looked very blah. But up close, I then noticed the great details put into the wheel bases and I was like "WOW!". And that pic of it going around the curves? Crazy! I'd love to see a video of it running! Four thumbs up. (My big toes helped out.)

monai Posted May 8, 2017 Very nice model, well detailed, as usual in your realizations.Ā The Lego track geometry proves, once more, to be very poor for modeling. Sergio and Eros

Well maybe it doesn't operate on the track like the real thing, but I'm sure its a fun and very rewarding challenge once accomplished
Feuer Zug Posted May 8, 2017 Nice work. The torpedo car seems built on the same idea as the Schnabel car. And the yard locomotive is cute too.

Thanks Sergio & Elos, the lego geometry is just a standard to respect but in my large layout I'll prefer large radius curves to avoid this hilarious situation! dr_spock Posted May 8, 2017 Nice model.Ā It's always fun to see long cars with many wheels try to get around LEGO R40 curves.Ā Does your torpedo make it through switches?Ā Ā

Sven J Posted May 15, 2017 That's gorgeous! The undercarriage, the handrails - such carefully elaborated details. But the icing on the cake is the tilting mechanism - stunning! Would love to have a wagon like this for my industrial locomotives...

Roadmonkeytj Posted December 31, 2018 Very impressive...Ā I love how you build to go round standard geometry...Ā The tilt is great as well!Ā I will have to look up that yard switcher it's sharp!Ā Now you must build the smelter and the foundry!Ā
Pdaitabird Posted January 1, 2019 Well, it's already been bumped so I guess we can comment.Ā This wagon really has it all - massive size, realistic tilting function, and serves to illustrate just how ridiculously tightĀ the standard Lego curves are.Ā Someone should build a train MOCĀ with bogies 80 studs apart that couldĀ just rotate around the center of a track circle!
