Lego 10243 Parisian Restaurant--!New Build & Review!
Off the wall replied to VintageLegoEra's topic in LEGO Town
Having been to Paris, I saw turkey in a sandwich at the Louvre starbucks. I also saw that bright white color that Saint Jamie used on the PR exterior. That white was on the Starbucks cup. -

Lego 10243 Parisian Restaurant--!New Build & Review!

This set and the associated reviews have been out for less than a year. The last thing I needed was to see was another review drooling over this set without making one critical comment (so far....... but hopefully some degree of objectivity will creep into the review before it's over). Awesome. Yeah, right........ -
A LEGO reality show... a good idea or a bad one?
Off the wall replied to XAxles's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Maybe they can bring in some of the women from the various 'Real Housewives of.....' series who've had the frame off restorations. I'd love to see the ones from NJ start throwing lego at each other. -
A LEGO reality show... a good idea or a bad one?

I don't know about other countries, but America reached the saturation point with reality TV several years ago. But, since they are so inexpensive to make, looks like we will be seeing more of them. -

Yes, I would pick it up. The best way for you to answer your question about specifics of the set is to go to Lego.com, pull up the instructions/parts list and see if its something you'd want. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Yep, hence the 'blue grocer' that the brick link enthusiasts often refer to. Of course, I can imagine TH in several other colors that would be at least as satisfying as the colors that come with the set. I've got a lot of those TH red-orange bricks left over from my TH expansion project. They helped make for an interesting flower shop MOC based roughly on the GG floor plan. -

I really like it. Nice work. I would like to see how it looks with the black anvil removed from the front and the bin at ground level also removed. Excellent use of the clear bricks and I like the use of the tan floor tiles.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Off the wall replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I agree. And since the after market is driven to a great deal by completists like me who are late to the hobby, the fewer the number of sets, the higher the price we will probably pay from speculators. As far as which modular is popular and which one isn't, I've never seen actual sales numbers so I don't have an opinion based on fact. While I don't like the PR, I've bought five copies of it just for MOC purposes. So, you never know. While the TH gets more than its fair share of criticism, it can see buying it because it's a great source of MOC parts/bricks with a desirable color. I can see where FB probably sold more than any modular.....but that's a guess on my part based on how long it was available and the positive comments that I've read about it. On the other hand, GE takes a lot criticism for not having a detailed interior. But, that didn't prevent someone like me from buying 12 copies of it for MOC purposes. I only have one left new in box. -
Should LEGO cut ties with Shell?
Off the wall replied to legoman19892's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Understood. But, when your car is pushing over 400hp and the manufacturer says premium gas, Shell becomes the priority. It's tough maintaining a large carbon footprint in this day of political correctness and unproven pop science.- 214 replies

Should LEGO cut ties with Shell?
Off the wall replied to legoman19892's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Sure, right...... This isn't the time or place for me to get into a discussion with a Greenpeace advocate over their misguided philosophy and tactics. Others have advised me they are as bored with this as I am. Especially when the discussion has broken down largely to 'it depends on what 'is' is'....... I am always happy to get someone who supports Greepeace to waste as much time and effort on a lengthy response. Keeps them away from other efforts, like getting in the way of legitimate fishermen or pouring good oil on toys.- 214 replies

Your definition of 'blackmail' is conveniently narrow, selective and self serving. However, your passive aggressive promotion of Greenpeace goals is clever and I really admire your ability to promote their agenda while seeming to be neutral/fair. Nice job!- 214 replies

Depending on how high your roof is, yep, the price goes through the roof. I found that out when buying two new in box GG after it retired. I picked up MS and CC from someone who had built them, maintained them as complete and sold them to me. Not as expensive as new in box, but not cheap, either. The Instructions will be available, but some of the parts may no longer be available and you will have to substitute. Like some of the CC windows and the green grooved bricks used in GG. -
Should LEGO cut ties with Shell?

Less Lego, more Shell. It's obvious that Lego caved in, unless you feel the need to rationalize their weakness. I spend about $80US a week at Shell. We can discuss semantics, or do the 'what does 'is' mean' dance or think like the OJ jury in Goldman case, but.... Blackmail n 1. Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Off the wall replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Having started collecting Modulars in February of 2013, I'm just happy that FB, GE and TH were around as long as they were. I'd like to see a program from TLG where parts for retired sets could be ordered through pick a brick in one fell swoop. Maybe not all of the original parts would be available, but something like the equivalent of the 'blue grocer' that some of the 'brick linkers' are building would be nice. -

I was forced by a family member go to the mall today. Stopped briefly, emphasizing 'briefly', at the Lego store. They had the PR in the front display window. On the shelves, I saw maybe 12 modulars total. PRs and PCs were basically the inventory. Depressing..... -
Should LEGO cut ties with Shell?
Off the wall replied to legoman19892's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'll buy more Shell products and less Lego. My discretionary income level and my age allow me to buy more Lego than what I really need. Both for myself and others. I don't respect companies that cave in to this type of blackmail. Unfortunately, most do......- 214 replies

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Danish toy maker Lego said Thursday it won't renew a deal allowing Shell to hand out Lego sets at its gas stations in some 30 countries, following a viral campaign protesting Arctic drilling. Environmental activists Greenpeace launched in July a video showing an Arctic landscape with a Shell drilling platform made of Lego bricks covered in oil. Lego CEO Joergen Vig Knudstorp said the protest "may have created misunderstandings among our stakeholders," adding the company didn't want to be embroiled in the environmental campaign. The world's largest toy maker "should never have become part of Greenpeace's dispute with Shell," Vig Knudstorp said. He added Lego had urged Greenpeace to have a direct conversation with Shell. Under the deal Lego signed with Shell in 2011, toy sets are distributed to customers filling up with minimum 30 liters (7.8 gallons) of gas. The privately owned company said it would continue to honor the contract with Shell until it expires. It did not say when that would be or provide financial details, but noted it was a long-term promotional agreement. Shell said the deal had so far been a success, and would continue with plans to roll it out in more countries. Royal Dutch Shell PLC has plans to drill in the Arctic coast of Alaska, but did not pursue them in 2013 or 2014 because of technical problems handling the weather conditions. In August, it filed a revised Arctic offshore drilling plan with U.S. regulators but said it hasn't decided whether to start in 2015. Greenpeace, which described Lego's announcement as "fantastic news," vehemently opposes drilling in Arctic waters, saying an oil spill in the area would have a disastrous impact on the marine environment.

Go to the lego website, pull up the instructions and go through them. That should give you a good idea. I have it, it's no longer on display and on a scale of one to ten, it's somewhere in the middle, I definintely wouldn't stretch my lego budjet to buy it.
