Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Off the wall replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Absolutely correct. -
Nice one by Townsend. Even if its San Marino.

One of life's pleasures is sitting here at 4 in the afternoon watching live football from London. England vs San Marino. Me, a cold beer, my english springer spaniel and the wife is at work. It doesn't get much better than that. Unless, of course, we were watching MU lose. :-)

LEGO Architecture 2015 News & Discussion

Pretty much what I expected. They fit in well with the rest of the series. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't like more sets and larger sets, it's just that they don't disappoint. They are what they are. Actually, I would call them 'awesome', since that word has come to mean average, not surprising. -

Granted, speculation is fun. Go back in this thread and on the Internet and look at when GRogall broke the news on the PR. That will give you some idea of past time frames on reliable rumors and reveals. Regards, all....... -

Maybe. With the PR we had solid information months before the reveal. Looking back through this thread and the Internet in general, all I can see is rumor piled on top of speculation on top of wishful thinking. With that said, and given January first will mark one year since the release of the last modular, it might not be unreasonable to speculate that a new modular reveal is imminent. But, unlike the pre reveal info we got on the PR, we don't have anything approaching what we had months before the PR release. And all this talk about the lego calendar and what they are thinking, well, it's fun and entertaining to spin this speculation.......but probably of little value. -

What announcement? You mean the one based on speculation and wishful thinking? -

I've always thought the proportions on TH were a little awkward. I think it looks a lot better if you expand it. I've added three extra windows on each floor on each side. It just looks better. -

I think you'll have another shot at both PS and TH. Especially TH. If anyone discovers they missed out on GE, I have three full sets of the bags marked '1' along with new in the bag instruction books and base plates. Didn't need them when building the mega GE. -

Hey, Herky, do you think a Nov 21 reveal would push the actual release date beyond January 1? -

Edited. I have enough frustration arguing with my relatives who buy Land Rovers. -

We don't want bare buildings, but we also don't want a five year old girls doll house, aka the PR. If a building is done correctly I don't need to see Jamie's story telling ability (or lack of) demonstrated. The building itself should tell the story. Look at any architectural icon, or even the nicely designed house down the street, it doesn't need frills to tell its story. And that's what the PR is, frill piled upon frill piled upon frill. If the building is done correctly, it doesn't need the designers often lame attempt at adding his story line. -

Maybe it's just me, but that looks too narrow to be an alley. An alley (at least where I live) is usually associated with being able to have garbage trucks drive down it. Just sayin'. Now I guess the debate can start 'what's an alley'? -

Nesquik...... It's not that I'm not looking at the broader picture. I fully understand it. But, I don't care about it. I want what I want. And, TLG seems to be moving towards trying to make one size fit all. And, when that happens, that one size seldom fits any one individual just right. I don't need a Lego product to tell a story, to educate me or to appeal to my entire family. I need a nice building with a satisfactory interior that speaks of being an AFOL and not a child. But, thanks for the lengthy and well thought out response. I think we agree on what TLGs objectives are, I just don't necessarily agree with them. -

Yes, I got it. I did a MOC. My MOC is a little 'squarish', but it fits in better with my city. If you're intersted, let me know. I can email you some pics. I still haven't gotten around to setting up an online site to host photos. I have four PRs. One is as shown on the Lego box, two were combined to make an MOC and one was saved in case I ever have a granddaughter. -

So, from what I'm reading, TLG might as well take the 16+ label off the box. The only relevance it may have in the future will be that an adult level of income is needed to afford the product. My problem with the PR was that TLG apparently moved from a more mature market to a children's market. Granted, Lego is a toy, but the original intent of the modular series is what appealed to me. And, quite frankly, I'm not comfortable as an adult talking about 'playability' or gushing over the little details in the PR. I want a structure. A real building. I want something like the Green Grocer or Fire Brigade. I don't want 'modular light'. I don't want something where, when adults visit, they wonder why we didn't put the kids toys away. But, the broader market TLG may be aiming for is far more important and profitable than the market segment represented by people like me. -

Thanks for the clarification on store inventory management and retiring sets. As far as the Detective Agency is concerned, do you know what base plate(s) will be used? I'm having trouble visualizing how this would be set up on a standard 32 x 32 plate. Again, thanks! -

As far as a set being retired, haven't we seen the GE in several different status (excluding 'retired') during the past few months? Don't be too quick to reach the conclusion that something is retired just because it is listed as 'sold out'. GE has come back from what many though was retirement on several occasions. Even after having been listed as 'sold out'. It's interesting to watch the status change on the modulars. Sometimes the set comes back and the new opportunity to buy it turns out to be a very small window of opportunity. If you're concerned about TH, just keep checking lego.com for possible availabiltiy. It ain't over 'till the fat lady sings! -

I guess it boils down to what they could do vs what they are willing to do. I don't see a footprint any larger than 32 x 32 for the modular series. I'd love it if they did make it larger, but I can't see TLG thinking anything larger than 32 x 32 is appropriate for this product line. -

A plate that size? Well I think it's a great idea and I'd love to see it. But, I bet the accountants and market research people would kill that idea because it would likely result in a higher price (notice I didn't say 'price point'....I find the use of 'point' after 'price' to be largely pretentious and unnecessary). -

I'm thinking about how an open alley can compliment an open dining area. -

An alley. Great. My first reaction is 'how many real bricks that they could use in the actual building can they save by giving us an alley'. If it's true, maybe they can also bring over some of the painters gear from the PR. -

Can't wait to see the minifigs that accompany it.
