  1. now that is a train! love that look and what a fantastic job, the trains that looked like that were the best, thanks for sharing with us
  2. Thanks CopMike...unfortunately this didn't answer the question at all though, OTW was really asking why was this set part of the Architecture series? Not why was it limited to only 10K. His argument is that the Architecture series is thought to be a global series just like City or the Town Modulars or the Lego Movie. personal rant on that one, I would like to see all the posts on TLM be moved to their own main topic, I can see how it is a special theme, but I am thinking we will see TLM2 so feel like it needs it's own space. In any case, back to the point...to put in a limited edition (and they even acknowledge it is a LE) in a global series and then follow it up with another one right behind it (Lego House) is basically saying OK Lego fans of Arch series, collect them all (which is stated on the box) EXCEPT these 2, cause we won't let you get those unless you have a lot of money. TLG never said anything about that at all. OTW's point is that it is fine for TLG to produce those, but please do them one off as LE's or special sets and NOT part of the series for those of us who want to get the whole series but don't have the ability to finish it off since 21021 and Lego House are sold only in 2 places in the world. Do NOT give them Arch series box styles and set numbers for this reason. Hopefully this makes sense.
  3. I have purchased 2 sets like this and "restored" several other sets of my own like this...it's really up to the buyer, but I would suggest you disclose it. I made sure to restore mine with the exact same piece, which cost me a little more, but I felt that the sets from the 80's deserved to be restored with the parts from the 80's. I just missed out on a few sets from the 60's...Lego Esso Gas Station, Lego Fire Engine and Lego VW set, the Esso went for $400, and VW went for close to $800. No missing parts but if you were to pick up one like that and you replaced with a part not from the 60's I would say yes, devalued set.
  4. I like that a lot, didn't realize the HH was not on a baseplate as I haven't started building mine either, I too applaud your courage to do the baseplate before the house...I might have to steal your idea somewhat when I get around to getting it put together.
  5. I haven't purchased it yet, but I did get a chance to see a friend's "street" with the PR next to the other modulars...this included Market Street, which I would compare the size of PR to in terms of overall building size and height. To be honest, the PR looks small compared to the other modulars (Pet Shop, Fire Brigade, etc) which, while the PR is definitely a great designed piece, it is hard to look at that on the "street" and think it is a good fit. No matter which other modular you put it next to, it seems small from what I could tell, it seems to fit the best to the right side of Market Street and then put Pet Shop on the other side so aesthetically, it doesn't look too small. Just my take on this...the interior is definitely cool, but the size is just smaller, especially for the added cost.
  6. Rick, go ahead and delete this, my fault.
  7. Sorry folks, I had the old April Fool's joke one...feel free to delete this if you are a moderator, just searching for the next architecture piece
  8. I just don't like the wobbliness of the finished product, if you touch it, it moves quite easily. I agree on the nameplates, I have the Sears Tower nameplate but not Willis Tower, would like both, but didn't want to buy a whole other set.
  9. In the US, they ship from Denmark to Alabama I believe and then out to the customer. I know with their expanded manufacturing facilities around the world, it seems more and more sets have pieces missing. I have had to do it with 5 sets in the past 2 years but none prior to that in 8 years. I usually get my parts in 14 days but it has been as long as 21 so that is a fair number to have stated.
  10. Have purchased so far the Mars Rover and Eiffel Tower Looking to add: Paris Restaurant Simpsons House if it looks good in person 2014 Architecture sets that come out Benny's Spaceship if it looks good in person Keeping an eye out for old sets here and there (classic space to go with my old collection I had as a kid) plus would love to find a decently priced Green Grocer and Café Corner Might need a storage facility for all the boxes though, I am about maxed out, have 8 36g tubs and those won't allow the big modular boxes to fit in there.
  11. Having seen both, the ship is more "adult" looking and the PR is more "kiddie" looking. The PR has a lot of extra pieces that most other buildings do not have, I think at least 500 "accessories" like bread and such, or maybe it just seems that way, plus in person, was more impressed with the ship than PR just due to size. PR as a building is about half the size of the other modulars...it is just as wide, but the depth is about half. It's not a big building. The ship though, nice looking ship, and if it wasn't for the stickers I would have bought that one, but you are right, I am in St Louis, they had 2 ships on the shelf and about 15 PR's in stock. The mgr told me the boat was outselling PR 2 to 1 right now. I wonder if TLG would rerelease the CC and GG, I am guessing those runs of production were much less than the later modulars.
  12. I received this yesterday as well and put it together, actually really liked it. One of the more challenging builds in a while, the ball joint piece on both sides and getting that right. Way more fun to do this one vs the Eiffel Tower...It sits nicely on the "rocks" on the baseplate and can move around pretty well. I am not super sure what Justin means on the arm, but you are right, nothing can be folded away, still if you are just building it and displaying it, this is a great set. I like this one better than the Hayabusa one, do not have the Shinkai, but I think out of all the Cuusoo one's this is my favorite.
  13. another great modular building, really like your speakers and the detail you have, the back looks just like a few I have seen, um yeah...LOL. Would love to see this in the modular line built on my street, great job.
  14. very cool modular, would love to see this on my modular street, great job with all the levels
  15. great job, I like this a lot better than the current Parisian out there, too bad TLG didn't have your design instead. Love the industrial, the back even the inside of it looks great, it's gritty and I think I might have been in this place in San Francisco.
  16. From what I see this is definitely subjective. I was at the Lego Store last night and they finally had a PR built for show. I personally like the big buildings, but I can see how those who like the details would like the PR. Pet Shop for me, since I don't have the GG or CC is about right. I really enjoyed the Fire Brigade as well, but I can see how that could be considered a one off. I think you have to take into consideration that not every building is going to be perfect for everyone, but I would have liked a bit bigger building on PR. I am not sure what is in it to justify the extra $10 this year, maybe plastic costs more. I think it does have a larger piece count but that is due to details such as the little plant hangers and the spikey "bush" at the bottom of the steps and such. Is it necessary? no probably not...there is a fine line between detail and clutter As for height, if you look at a lot of buildings out there today, the height is right on when comparing one to another. Green grocer, from the pics I see is taller, but it depends on what it was modeled on...most grocery stores in the US are big, one floor, but other countries do have multiple floors. I will ultimately pick up the PR but not in a hurry, will wait for 3x points or look online for a sale.
  17. yes, I thought about the scale issue, I think I didn't state it well, I would like all of the buildings in Lego to be the same size, so my White House is same size as the Imperial hotel which is the same size as the Fallingwater...not that they use the same scale to design the buildings. Sorry if that didn't come across right...essentially the White House is pretty neat to me, but why is that one so small when Imperial Hotel, which I find a lot more bland is twice its size? Make them all the same size maybe is the right way to say it. I would do all the buildings on the size of the Imperial Hotel and the upright buildings (John Hancock, Seattle Needle, etc) on the size of the Pisa build...Pisa and Eiffel are about the same size but sitting next to my Sears Tower, they are huge and it looks odd to me. Call it OCD or whatever, I think it would look better though. nice flag Cop Mike, I like that one
  18. Vee - I was chuckling heavily at your post, the 1x1 tiles used in this line are so annoying, I am not worried about alignment, and I get that they want "the look" but agree, what a pain to do. I didn't find the ones on the Tower Bridge too bad, I just farmed that part out to the kids. It is sort of like Pisa, it's 6 levels of the same thing, as Architecture often is. The Robie house, while tasking in this same manner was worth it to me, really a cool piece when done and probably the highlight of the line since it actually has colors other than white, grey or black or green for grass. I guess they threw in the blue now on the UN building, but the one thing that jumps out when you put all of the sets together is lack of color. I would put this to you, it is WAY more annoying to put those levers in as flags on the UN building than it is the 1x1's. Oh sorry, add tan to the colors (falling water house) Other than the tiles, I do like this house, it is simplistic, just like the real one, can't imagine living in it though. My main thing is I would like for this line to stop with all the crazy sizes, one is 1:64, one is 1:24, etc...make it more uniform so it displays better.
  19. I wonder if CopMike can ask TLG about Trevi to get official confirmation, the main issue is TLG may or may not give answers...worth a shot though
  20. Sci - you said the Trevi Fountain is true, with a link that is to nothing, but can you confirm this is an actual set? If there is just a place holder on BL, which is empty, that doesn't necessarily make it true yet. Call me Doubting Thomas for now. I feel I need a pic of the set or box.
  21. Speaking of limited availability, what was the date on Lego House again, the other Architecture series set that we won't be able to get since it is not mass produced but yet a set that will be selling at 5 times actual value? Thanks CopMike for asking TLG, going to be interesting to see what they say...
  22. After building now, I agree with rollermonkey, the build is wobbly, you don't want to really touch it once you are done and it is straight and in place, put it up high so no one bumps it or you will have the Eiffel Tower of Pisa with a lean to it...not sure why they did it this way, but was disappointed that it was a build that didn't feel firm.
  23. Not going to say much else, funny that TLG does state that on their stuff to collect the full line, same thing will happen with Lego House, it's brand incompetence at best. Someone screwed up big time, limited editions are fine, just not in a mass collected line. Will just wait til the next release which is rumored to be Trevi Fountain. One question how did you log onto Korea's site? I tried and it wouldn't let me. Also, Eiffel Tower, this build is very wobbly, TLG needs to stick to the block structures IMO.
  24. OK, I went out and checked out the buy sell trade, wow...not a good place to go if you really want to buy sell or trade...most folks just give you link to their ebay auctions or bricklink stores or tell you to buck up and go buy...doesn't seem to be any real trading and selling/buying going on
  25. A follow up question then, pertaining to this site...we have the buy/sell/trade section of this site, (you have to have 100 posts though) and I really haven't looked at it, but wouldn't it be such that folks could request from others purchasing and shipping the hard to get sets around the world to them? I would be happy to do that if there was something I knew I could get that others could not. I also collect bobbleheads and am part of a site that we do that one and everyone on the site pays through Paypal and it runs pretty smooth. Could we not help our fellow AFOL's out around the world or have we become so greedy we have to have a 100% markup to sell on ebay? Guess I am naïve in human nature though, I know folks get too greedy, but if I could help out, I would. Big items though, I just don't have the extra cash to just go pick it up and send. But if I had the money ahead of time I could do this...just a thought to throw out there.
