  1. when I first saw the topic, I thought it was going to be a sno cat, but this is great, really like the story and plane and all, so did they really build this and use it on Antarctica? I can't imagine loading and unloading it down there. Great set, nice story and good luck on the votes
  2. what I read was rumors but everyone was speculating that it was the old version, agree the new would be harder Here is the site I was reading: http://brickfanatics.co.uk/lego-2014-rumor-mill-mini-architecture/
  3. Historian, just want to say thanks for all the info you have, been following your posts and appreciate the info you provide. I have a good interest in the early stuff, but was thinking 60s so amazing to see just how far back it goes. I had sent you a message about a Lego Esso Station that I think is a mashup of the original, I bought it cause I knew it was older but I know now it is incomplete but would appreciate any info you could provide. Would you like me to put a pic in here or just send it straight to you?
  4. I am not sure which site I saw it on, but read it was definitely a replacement for the VW van and will be similar size, excited to see it and build it eventually.
  5. agree, just wow, that is quite the undertaking...would love to see you do American Gothic or Hopper's Nighthawks
  6. Trevi would be cool, how would they do that set though, with the water and all, guess they will be using a lot more of the blue that is on the UN building somehow, excited about this one.
  7. I grew up with a father who was a Yankees fan and a grandfather as a Cubs fan...but my first baseball memory was in 1975 when Carlton Fisk hit that home run...the following year I was put on the Red Sox little league team and that was all she wrote...been a lifelong Red Sox fan. Yaz is still my fave player of all time. I lived in KC for 8 years and worked for the Royals for one year in the front office (sports in the front office does not pay) but I had a wonderful experience. I also did a few things for the KC Wiz, who became the Wizards and now Sporting KC...wish we had MLS here in St Louis. Also did some stuff with Chiefs. Alas those days are long gone now and I work for a bank. BMJackson, agree, my kids want me to be up there on Sunday morning to be first in line to get the new minecraft sets. Will try...
  8. I would guess with both sets hitting 10K, TLG has to notice, just hoping it works out to make this into a set. 9952 right now
  9. there was a special set of minifigures put out for the 2012 London Olympics, it was a tennis player, weightlifter, etc representing the British team This is not my pic, but one I took off of ebay: I have since researched this a bit and I see how Lego really did a lot, esp in basketball with certain players and such...maybe what I think would be good for TLG to do is specific stadiums from around the world in its Architecture line vs my idea of sports overall. Several great stadiums that could be built from around the world. Yes, this was during my dark age as they say, so have sort of come to the conclusion it would have to be great stadiums from around the world...Thego, I was referring to baseball stadiums when I stated the US part...I do not know of too many baseball stadiums that are famous other than a couple in Japan.
  10. I know they did some Lego sports years back, but wonder if there isn't a case to be made with this again. I was able to pick up the 2012 Olympics set recently and wondered if there would be a market for teams such as US baseball (they already do lame baseball in a Lego copied style, they look horrible), soccer/football, US football, Australian football, Rugby, etc. Sorry if this topic was already done, put it in special themes as I think it is more of a unique theme with the teams instead of a town type of view. I know there are also specific companies out there that build stadiums out of bricks as well. Kubrik for one and I think Sean Kenney did some as well. Likely a US based target more than anything, but do not see why they couldn't do teams and stadiums in Europe and around the world as well. Anyone know anything on this?
  11. I have seen this discussed in a couple of other threads as being a Disney Princess line so have to assume with all of that, it likely is true. Wonder what Princesses will be in the initial wave...youngest daughter is going to bankrupt me I am guessing.
  12. Welcome! Nice that your fiancee is supportive, my wife is more at the tolerant stage now...I think she sees the money spent on all the Lego's and it sometimes irks her, so hopefully you will not get into that. Enjoy the site!
  13. You will find it is a great site, I joined not long ago and have found many great builds that people do and am just in awe of the creativity that everyone has. You mentioned Lego digital designer, is this a program you bought or downloaded? I am not familiar with that as I just buy and build for myself in the Architecture line and all the rest with my daughters. I know what you mean by the mixing of stuff, can and does occasionally drive me nuts. Welcome aboard, good to have more folks on the site.
  14. Marina Bay Sands and Eiffel Tower...are these rumors or do we know they will be released? Too early to start a 2014 thread on Architecture/Creator buildings? I know they did Nathan Sawaya's traveling tour at the Marina Bay Sands resort, but wondering if they are doing the actual building as a release, Darth Tater, can you help us with how you heard this? Eiffel Tower mini - about the size of the Pisa Tower would be ok, would definitely get that one too, but wondering again is this rumor or true? You would think for an October release they would have something out a la minecraft/Opera House for Sept. I know they do not want to take away from those releases, but still, media would be out for October I would think.
  15. Joe and Eurotrash, good to see MO represented, if only the Tigers can put up some points on the ball field this year. Go Mizzou! Go Iowa! thanks everyone for the warm welcome, Joe I hope to see you at the store as well, we are there every month so far for the build with the kids, the crab was the best so far Zipper - classic sets, I am actually going to try to inventory them, but mostly the smaller sets from back in the day, 420 Police car, 460 Rescue Units, 480 Rescue Helicopter, 490 Mobile Crane...Sea Plane, Learjet, small biplane, a police van, space ones, I really need to get organized. I saw there is a thread about sets from when you were a kid, posted in there as well. Sets I want: Green Grocer, Cafe Corner, Market Street (nothing big right?) problem is I didn't get back into it til my kids were older and missed out on some cool big sets I wish I had the money to pick up now
  16. I joined a few weeks ago now, did not realize this forum was down here since I hadn't scrolled down...originally from Iowa, have lived in Missouri for a long time, both KC and now St Louis for the last 10 years. I have my original space from when I was a kid and now a lot more sets since my kids have gotten into it. We got to go to Legoland in California last Christmas, was sad to know that Lego doesn't own Legoland, but still had a lot of fun at the park. Interested in buying and trading when I get to that level. Love the modular houses and Architecture. Youngest daughter loves the Friends sets and has almost every one. Oldest daughter saved and got all the Monster Fighter sets...except Haunted House. Lego family all around and super happy they finally opened a store here in St Louis.
  17. very cool, really like the detail and the guy in the barrel in the sea is a nice whimsical touch
  18. Quick question...mentioned the Disney license and Disney telling TLG to make anything it wanted...is that how Lone Ranger came about? PG 13 movie a bit above some of the target market and the film did horribly. Have not seen it but it is at our local reduced price theater now ($4 a ticket) Sherlock Holmes, I love it, I own around 400 SH books. I actually didn't care for the Downey films, really like Jude Law but he was just not Watson to me. Nor was Downey a good SH. Good films yes, but just more steampunk version of SH. Would buy every set they made in this line though, the problem is how would you do it? Hound of Baskervilles could be made but the hound is more a monster fighters hound. You aren't going to do the Speckled Band, nor most of the stories due to the content being more morbid for the target audience. Would love to hear what folks think, to me I would love to see someone do a MOC on Reichenbach Falls, but overall I think SH is more dark than where TLG wants to go.
  19. thanks Dino, I actually sent him a message about the Lego Esso cause I am not sure what it is, if it is just something someone put together or what, so figured he might know. I need to do an inventory and take pics really, finally figured out how to post pics here...here is that set...kind of odd, has a bunch of extra signage with it so you can change it out. I think it is a pieced together set from someone, but was only $20 for this at a local store so picked it up.
  20. I think it is not really anger but more frustration that the product is not available to the public and fans at large...and it's not that it is even an exclusive, but the insanity of seeing one on ebay at $500 and knowing that unless you have big cash in your pockets, you are never going to get that figure...if Lego made them available to VIP's it would be nice, but there are likely millions of those, still they could do a run of 30,000 and make a lot of people happy, they already have the setup for it, why not?
  21. I think I am a bit older than most here then...LOL. I have sets from the 70's and early 80's which were all basic sets plus a lot of the space ones from back then. I also have a 1960's car and a mashed up Lego Esso gas station set which is not complete, but oddly enough for those who want to go back and pick up old sets, they aren't really that pricey on ebay. I recently went back and found a couple that I had always wanted back then and picked them up. Is there a Topic for old sets? A separate "vintage" section maybe divided by the decades (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s) on the site? I looked it up but could not find one, but am not sure I searched right.
  22. wow has it been 3 years already, ok, that makes sense, thanks for the info LegoDr, I just like to build them so I don't track colors or uniqueness of pieces like others, but I know how important it is to have colors and piece types to those folks, so I am all for it to see what they end up doing with them
  23. Thanks for the clarification GregRichards and faefrost...yes, for Lego VIP points, they do a double points promotion in October so for me, in the US, 320 = 640 points = $5 for 100 points or $30 free for buying this under that plan. Helps when your kids also want the new Friends sets and the other wants the Hobbit house. I can't imagine a total review on this with pics along the way of the build, would take up so much server space with the pics alone. I know for me, an average modular house took about 6 hours to build with my kids so imagine this is a bit more.
  24. Straight out of Pleasantville almost, great build, fun story...thanks for sharing.
  25. Did go last night to my local store after having received the email and they did have it...guess the mgr didn't know or wasn't supposed to tell. This set looks incredible and I will get it, but I think I will wait for the double points promotion. Oddly, it was displayed next to the Tower Bridge set, which has more pieces (4000 to 3000) and does cost about $70 more so maybe the license is the cost difference or possible the different pieces. Tower Bridge has pretty much your normal pieces, but the Opera House has the long curving pieces and of course base plates. I have the TB and it was so fun to put together, it's just huge...unfortunately it came in a ruined box so I have to figure out how to store it if I ever take it apart. The Ewok Village was there too and it was really cool, just like the one in ROTJ. So the display at my store, was a huge display of the Opera House, Ewok Village, modular Cinema and Tower of Orthanc...impressive builds all.
