Habitat 67 will likely get made and only be available to the 146 couples who now live in this oddball housing complex in Montreal, LOL...in truth, who knows, TLG is pretty secretive when it comes to the Architecture line, huge transparency with a lot else, but not much in that realm. I do not think TLG has a product manager for this line so it is an afterthought compared to the others. However, I have high hopes that 2014 will bring some very good products for us.

OK so let me ask this, and I will compare...if you go out and buy 400 packs of baseball cards so you can complete the entire set of cards for a given year, but you are missing card numbers 5 and 21, would you not try to get those cards or would you be happy with the other 794 (there are usually 796 in most Topps sets)? I contend that you would want to complete the set with 5 and 21 so you can then go through your set if you like, or just leave it in the box or whatever...keep in mind I am talking collecting the cards to make the set, not just go buy the complete set as they sell... In the same manner then, if you are a huge fan of the Architecture set, why would you NOT want to add the Lego House and Marina sets to your collection to keep it complete unless you couldn't afford it. It's more the principle of making something limited so only a few can get it but putting it into an overall collection thus limiting the ability for all to have the chance to get it. It's asinine logic really but hey I am an American, not a Dane (although I do have Danish ancestors) so maybe this marketing scheme makes sense to Europeans? This logic that I just stated, is what is hacking off OTW and the rest of us, not that TLG made these, but that they stuck it in a collection that we now either have to skip the mortgage payment to get or just do without and have holes in the collection. It's human nature to want to complete the set for most of us. TLG marketing needs to consider it's customers and trust me, the AFOL's drive more money in this line than anyone else, and say ok, for this line, do we need a product manager to drive the line forward in deciding marketing policy, building choices, etc...just like any other business has product managers for the most part. Trust me, when LG goes out to sell washing machines, their is a product manager in the US and one in Europe and all that which decide what products are needed and how this goes. It's that way in any corporation. So we have the TLG corp deciding to do something that is outside the lines here...that is the main issue and I agree with OTW, I don't care for it. Feel free to make it, but just don't lump it in with the Architecture line. We are not blowing a gasket, actually it's a pretty valid discussion, one that shows TLG has lost some competence in understanding it's market and product when dealing with a line like this and who the customer is that is buying the sets.

When TLG produces limited scale, and I point to the first Cuusoo on this as well, the shinkai, it really does just annoy me, it was produced in Japan, 10,000 sets just like Marina, and hard as all get out to get at a decent price. I simply have a hard time paying $300 for something that should be about $40 worth. It is also hard to think about forking out 2 to 3 times the amount for café corner and green grocer and such, but at least I can understand that is my fault for not picking them up earlier. I also see sets like Ole Kirk's house which was an employee set, go for huge money too, but I get that as well. My personal feeling is that a limited edition like this is pretty crappy on TLG's part but I am not going to stop my collecting due to that.

Found the instructions, CopMike, if you reference that from now on, could you be kind enough to provide a link? And possibly I think you misunderstood Vee's humor for a threat? Vee was not really serious there. Isn't this site supposed to be a bit fun as well as informative and a place for discussion? Does anyone know if you build it from the instructions, is it possible to order a Marina Bay Sands nameplate somewhere or will you just have to have it black with no name? Thanks

A lot of new sets at our local Lego Store in St Louis, but they told me they cannot put out Eiffel or Parisian til Jan 1, so Wed it is for the Eiffel Tower, wish I could find the big one at a decent price as well. I am still not hearing much about what is next after this for Architecture line though, there is a group on facebook for architecture line but they do not have anything new either. I am still hoping to get a St Louis Arch someday. Lots of cool buildings around the world that can be done as well.

I think the theory still stands, cause Taiwan and Japan are east Asia and really it's not far from Singapore to Taiwan (my wife is from there and have been to Taiwan a few times now, flight to Singapore is short and cheap) so they could have relatives or business there and gotten them. Seeing the pics of the choices, since Pisa was made, it was likely the ringer for that group, but the vote went to MBS instead, maybe Lego (the evil Lego) said aaarrrrrgggghhhh in their best pirate line mode and said fine, you didn't pick our ringer, then we will set it at...LIMITED RELEASE muwhahhahaha and too bad for all you collectors! That said, I would like to see the first 10 as well since this seems like the second 10 from the comments. I can't imagine making Sagrada, St Basil's or the GG Bridge...the Bridge would be cool, but you would have to add an Alcatraz to go along with it...the rest are definitely blocky structures so it fits.

That's funny Vee, good outlook...living in St Louis, I keep hoping for an Arch, they do have one at our science center done by Tucker, it's a good 18" high and would make a good creator set along the lines of the opera house, but they could do that one much cheaper. I like the idea of this hotel done on a bigger scale, it would look much much better. I am somewhat a completist too so frustrating I keep trying to get the lower priced ones on ebay, but alas none yet. Someone has it in the US ebay site for $999, I just had to chuckle at that price at this point.

This is the first Architecture set I do not like, but I honestly am not into Safdie's architecture either. We all have our own opinions of course, but I do not feel Safdie's structure's capture the same grace as say an IM Pei or a Wright or the craziness of Gehry. Couple that with that fact that this is a hotel. I know the other early buildings were office buildings and such, but did not expect a hotel in this line. That sort of confuses me, even if it is a well known architect's design. I really hope we don't get to making Trump Tower or the Bellagio or something. I also think the design of the Lego building does not capture the true identity of the hotel...granted some of the others don't either. In the end, I think this was chosen as it won a contest for a build, not because it was on the list of great architectural wonders to be made. I am also disappointed that Lego is only making 10K of these, it is similar to the Shinkai (1st Cuusoo) and such limited production seems out of character. To each his own I guess, I do have to say the review was top notch, WhiteFang did a great job in breaking it down and letting us know the info... As for what OTW said, I don't think he directly said it to you Legogal, more to the fact that a lot of comments that occur on this site are so gushing no matter what TLG puts out. There is a lot of good discussion here but posting "I love it, great set, so wonderful" at every new pic and set that comes out is not really adding to a discussion.

I am sure some will make their way to ebay like Ole Kirk's house...interesting set

10,000 is just ridiculous, I am assuming the molds were already there and these pieces are simply the same pieces you can find in many arch sets, but this is nuts, packaging and shipping sets to Singapore and select Asian retail is much like the first Cussoo Shinkai I am guessing they would sell 5,000 in the US alone, maybe we see something in 1st Q 2014 on this I hope.

I saw all the new Friends sets except the two posted above (tv and horse show) at the Lego Store in St Louis, Missouri today...my daughter is going to bankrupt me. Very nice sets too they were almost flying off the shelves, in another note though, had not gotten here the Dolphin Cruiser and they were out of those, I hope TLG does another production run on those.
-
LOL, well somewhat true there Tom, but...I can't go to that mall (wife wanted to go) and not stop in the Lego Store, even if I have what I want for 2013...but my daughter is huge into Friends, she even wants the LED book light for some reason, so not finding the boat but finding the others was pretty nice for here. Hopefully others will see this as well as I can't imagine middle of the country St Louis store is in any way special to get these before anyone else...and if someone had already posted that they have seen this stuff, my apologies, just trying to let folks know.
-
Stopped at the Lego Store today, they have all the new Friends sets in stock, all the Disney Princess sets, the cat/mouse and some other creator, the Mountain hut, new Ninjago, and likely more than I coudl remember...just wanted to let folks know, also big sales on Lone Ranger and some other stuff...had stopped in to pick up the dolphin cruiser for my daughter but that is sold out everywhere including online shop so ebay here I come, ugh, kicking myself now. Just wanted to let folks know they are stocking shelves early it seems as I thought most of these were early 2014 stuff. They did not have the Parisian Restaurant nor the Eiffel Tower nor Marina Bay Sands...they said Jan 1 of course on these.

That's what I wondered, I really didn't know how much it cost to build a MOC, while great looking items, that cost is prohibitive to really selling IMO unless it was so cool that one couldn't pass it up, and that would likely be rare. Spending $500-600 on a MOC, I would rather go back and get the cafe corner, green grocer or market street that sell in that price range.
-
As a collector, there are many MOC's that folks have built and shown on this site I would love to purchase, but...I would consider these close to just any other Lego purchase plus a bit more...for ex, if it is a modular building, I can see adding some cost to it due to the exclusivity of it, but I wouldn't want to go crazy...for a modular somewhat similar to say Pet Shop which cost $150, I would expect the pieces plus instructions and not expect it to be shipped all put together since a lot of the fun is building it. So similar to a retail experience. Due to the one of a kind building though, I can see asking for an additional $50-$100 for it based on complexity and piece availability. I would also be happy if it was just a copy of the original, i.e. 2nd edition, as I know the original would be sentimental. I am not sure of the average cost to purchase bricks and put these together though, I would hope that they were similar to the price we pay for the current sets out there, but I am not one to build MOC's so I really don't know. I do know there are some amazing creations out there that I would love to own a copy of though.

did you get this from Singapore or was it found elsewhere? How much did you pay for it? Can you give us the basic info as well, # pieces and such? Thanks!
-
Colonel, you need to clean them out and help out your fellow Eurobrickers on this site, that's a pretty cool set, am sure the ebay price will be sky high

it has worked for all the folks who are selling cafe corner, green grocer, market street and many more at huge markups from the original purchase price odd though, 1970's and 1980's era lego sets are not really that expensive but these 21st century sets are in some cases through the roof...just check out ebay for the statue of liberty or eiffel tower or the carousel...folks are tripling their money easily and the market to buy is there, key is finding the right sets to stock and invest in

Should Lego sets have the designer's names printed on them?
Herky replied to TeufelHund's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Legally the finished product belongs to TLG, therefore, it is proprietary to TLG and it is highly unlikely TLG would do this. I think they make an exception with Tucker for architecture due to the process it takes to make these and the fact that they are likenesses of actual buildings. City sets, town sets, etc and on and on, are designed playsets that are created by designers who get paid by TLG and this is their licensed product. This is why the cussoo ideas have to go through the vetting process in order to get made, they essentially rework the original idea so as to not have to produce a license from that original maker. In short answer, I believe there is a way to find all of the folks names out by using TLG's HR site if one really wanted to look into it, but it's kind of like all of the people at the mint who make the money and the designer of the bills, they don't get their name put on the money. Short answer, I would have to say no...while it is a cool idea, there are simply too many people involved and I don't think we want to pay extra for end credit type stuff in our sets. Just my opinion anyway -
wow, I never knew that you all paid that much more, I think the one problem is if say I were to buy sets in the US to get the cheaper price for you, the postage would end up costing just as much to ship to you as if you just bought it yourself...ugh I did hear "rumor off the wall" that Tapei 101 might be a possible in the future, I have no idea, just came up in a conversation I had with a lego employee, we were talking about the line and what we would like to see...I would love to see a version of the Roman colosseum as well. Anyone have any real TLG connections about the line and what else might come out in 2014?

thanks antp, yep, crazy that it is way more expensive for the countries using euros if this is true So we pretty much know the first quarter unveilings, Eiffel, Marina Bay, wondering what else TLG has in store for us next year, all the other lines have 5-10 offerings disclosed for 2014 so far, be nice to know what else is slated for the first 6 months of the year in the architecture line looked up the conversion on the Marina Bay piece, 90 Singapore dollars is 72 USD

600 pieces is about equivalent to the UN HQ set which sold for $50 USD, saw the review on the Eiffel on another thread and the reviewer said it was 45 euro which is about $60 USD but it only has 324 pieces...that's a huge markup on that one. Ebay costs for Marina Bay Sands is running $100 USD minimum, about double the price it should be, would love to know if this is worldwide production since it says limited edition or just a Singapore release Much like the first Cussoo was the Shinkai only done in Japan, it would not thrill me to not get this one, but have to budget for a big outlay most likely in 2014.

I really like this set, great job on the review, but 45 euro for a 324 piece set? holy cow, that's $60 USD or more, most sets this size have been in the $20 range, that's nuts for 3 x the price. For ex, the Leaning Tower of Pisa is $34.99 at Legoshop.com and is 345 pieces...so it has to be comparable in size and such and it is almost twice that amount....wondering what is going on here for this piece at that price. Even the UN HQ is $50 for 600 pieces.
