Review Review: 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!
Herky replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I get what 1974 is saying though, even in the movie, all the sets are the cobbled imagination of a little boy, so to that little boy, this is classic space cause he is too young to have experienced CS the way we who were that little boys age back in the day got to experience it. I would also back it up a bit saying I do not think this is what neo classic space would be either. I can see the old CS items being updated, but really the SSS is kind of a mess to behold...not saying I don't like it cause I do and it is a lot of fun, but it really is like that pizza where they threw every topping on that they could find. I would envision neo classic space to take the line in a bit more streamlined direction, we are in an age where we had the true representation of Mars Rover and all that, but Lego Classic would be to me the loveable aspects of the old sets. I would keep the spacemen the same though really, there was white, red, blue and yellow, I might throw in a green and maybe an orange to round it out. I still have my lego 928 and the box...maybe I would do some curves or something with it as a new set.- 228 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Herky replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
everyone seems to get offended way too easily...sheesh...it's good to have different opinions, it's how we grow I wonder, would TLG ever announce and do 2 modular in a year? Say a January release then fall maybe? I know it hasn't been done but I bet the market would hold up and if they have enough designers to make it happen I don't see why not. I do like the garage idea, but in modulars what kind of car would go with it, we know they aren't afraid to put a car in, a la Fire Brigade and Cinema...would it be more of a muscle car type since it is a garage? I know there are many good garages out there and there was a town plan garage Esso Gas Station, that means a European car, I am not sure how you would go modular on it though, doesn't seem to lend itself to the traditional 3 floor plan. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

by the way, aren't they already doing a bike shop in the new house line, so that cuts that out as well; see the creator houses sets thread for the info on that... I just think TLG can do better, we get some cool stuff, but I don't think they reach their potential on the modular. Everyone says the green grocer is still the standard and that was what, 5 or 6 modular ago and we haven't really raised the bar since then and I agree, the GG is the best. TLG needs to step up and raise that bar. Does anyone know on the builders, are they just all based in Denmark or do they have builders in many countries competing for a grand vision on each modular? I would say if they have many, the synergy they could get from many builders vs one guy/gal all the time would result in a better product, just look at some of the MOCs out there that inspire others to be bigger and better...something TLG should take advantage of if they were smart. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Herky replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I would say the main issue I have with the PR is that there are too many "accessories" and not enough building. I don't want a big box either, but it could have been a tad wider and a bit bigger...that said I don't even own it, but have seen it on display often. I don't know the count, but how many pieces of the set are not used in the actual building and how many are things like bread or flowers. Add to that the higher price point and I said meh, get it eventually not a priority. Same with the new mixer, it's cool on display but meh, not a set I would say gotta have. If I had a vote, I would go museum, but could also see that going the Architecture line way. Library, hospital, church, bank, brownstone family house, it's all fine, but I am also a bit wary of having a crazy mix of houses next to each other, for ex, I don't think I could put the PR next to the Cinema, just way different architectural styles. I want a good looking building that is done right at a good price point. I would even like to see maybe a city park with a cool fountain and maybe some other activities there, could be done at a lower price point with a teeter totter or a merry go round or monkey bars for kids...maybe a grill/firepit area, who knows...be creative TLG and see what happens. I don't have time to MOC or LDD so I rely on TLG to give me a good product. Steely Dan - haven't heard those songs in a while, maybe they do a concert venue for the next modular? Opera House/Concert Hall type with amphitheater seating, but I guess they did the Sydney Opera House to cover that one. -

the balloon thing was Lego 40108, it's a cool polybag...not to deviate from the thread but you can see it online as well, very nicely done poly set I know what you mean about the mirrored stickers on the tailfin, hated them and put them on then the other side was off, then restuck them a couple times...the thing I hate about any stickers is you get a bit of your fingerprint on any of them when trying to put them on and you have to press very evenly but I can always see a bit of it on the clear part. I tried tweezers but I ripped the heck out of one sticker that way. I could never do a set with a lot.- 228 replies

It's a pretty cool set, got it last night and it goes together quickly, took about an 90 mins to put it together, lots of cool functions although I kept wondering why they needed the stickers. Especially the 4 on the classic space logo that goes on the jet engine holders, those could have been printed easily. I hate stickers. I like the robots, and the way the wings extend, they did a good job with that. The kids got up this morning and are playing non stop with it, I do wonder if the brick separator is just standard in big sets now though, is this also counted in the piece count? I think we have about 25 of them now in different colors. Overall I have to go with this being a great set...I will likely get the mech set too, that one looked great on the shelf and in the case all built. Really excited to see the movie again now.- 228 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Herky replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
While I think a post office would be great, and the pics you provide certainly look great, I am not sure that TLG would go this route. I feel the museum idea has a lot of merit, we have seen in the Cinema how they can put posters up, so it wouldn't be a stretch to do works of art or sculptures, a nice kiosk like most museums have with rooms full of art. A library would also be very cool, we know they can do books, but I wonder if they would do individual books or just do a shelf with an insert that just looked like books. There are a lot of possibilities there too. I just wasn't as enamored with the restaurant as most folks...wish it was more of an Italian restaurant or Chinese instead. -
Thanks for the review, this looks like a great set, I feel TLG improved on the minifigs and they did the car justice as well, I like the front hood and grill on TLG's version, but the tail fins on the old version along with the red line across under the windows. I also appreciate the old version's chrome items better. Really a combo of the two would make the perfect car. I do like the box on this one, similar to architecture boxes which I feel waste space a lot less. There just seems to be a ton of air in most set boxes that doesn't need to be there. Review wise, excellent, appreciate the insights and information you have given us. Top notch.

Pandora's bad math skills aside (9 months not 18) I have heard the Architecture Studio is being sold in stores again, no idea if it is selling well. The manager at my local store also is in the dark for what might be next, at the regional gathering, Trevi was the only thing discussed. Another site mentioned getting back to the Wright buildings and suggest Taliesin but I think that is too sprawling to do, if they go back to FLW, better to do his home in Oak Park. Another suggestion was a European building, but while there were a ton of good buildings thrown out, no one really had a guess...I had heard at one time, TLG was considering doing the Pyramids of Gaza, certainly lend themselves to a lego build. We will just have to see I guess...thread will likely go dormant for a while til something is published by TLG.

So, given your explanation, only discussion about the topic and sets should be done in any post? Get ready for a lot of report button clicks then, not by me, I am good if folks want to discuss, but if others see this and want to be hard core, whoo...you will be super busy. Thanks for the explanation though, too bad Rufus couldn't have stated it...the way you stated it was clear and concise and actually I thought it was nice. A bit of honey goes a long way as the saying goes. For anyone who wants to discuss just pure architecture and meet good folks around the world there is a facebook Lego Architecture page as well that does tend to veer off subject. As for me, I am really wondering why TLG is not paying the Arch line much notice this year, one set only, mid year and no rumours about anything else at all...very sad to see this line slow down so much.

wow...ok, so in keeping with rufie's desire...let's be robotic from now on, oops robots go on another theme...in any case, anyone know what might be next after the Trevi Fountain, I know for a while there, TLG was producing more than one architecture set per year. I am not sure we can count Marina Bay cause lots of folks got it in late 2013, even though some sites say it is 2014. It seems TLG has just let this line die a bit. One question for some admins though, why are you so tough on posts for Architecture and I see a ton of back and forth in TLM posts, and others? Do you not have anything better to do other than to troll all the threads and come down on posters? It seems a bit childish really. Can we just have CopMike do the admin on the special Lego Themes...he is pretty cool.

I knew the early May release today was the mixer, but had so hoped they would have included Trevi in there as well...oh well, 16 more days

I think you could easily fold it into Licensed, I would not say let it stand on its own after reading the replies, maybe combine it with a couple others, but I think I counted over 40 different threads for TLM. I am not trying to cause any issues really, I read a few of the TLM threads and also the others on this theme, just seems like TLM has taken over, and we could organize things better. Just a thought anyway.
-
I have noticed that there are a lot of TLM posts, many items that are great to discuss and wondered if it wasn't time to break it off into its own theme. I am not sure how to do a poll on here and that is fine, but I would love to see it in it's own theme. We know there will be sequels, there are MOC's and MOD's, there are almost as many TLM posts on here as the rest combined...just wondering if we should break it off into it's own theme...what say you?

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Herky replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I liked that little lego movie...if anything, we don't want to move it, we need to create a theme just for the Lego Movie and it's multiple, multiple, multiple threads cause we know there is a lego movie 2 coming and it clogs up the special themes...it is really unique and should have its own theme- 2,626 replies

it is not the May 15th early VIP release, that one is the Carnival mixer creator set for $150...I would guess the Mini would go for the same amount, but can't wait to pick that up, esp if it is like the pics above, green and white would be sweet, but agree, go the dark (hunter I think it is called) green

very good to hear that, maybe it will get worldwide release on May 1 then, I haven't heard much about the monthly release items

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Herky replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
10244 Carnival (temp name?) will be a fairground attractions, with the focus being a Mixer/Scrambler ride, glow-in-the-dark feature and the mixer folds up to be transported. It is not a building, but does integrate with the modular sets, it does contain 12 minifigures, including a juggler on stilts, a man who is dizzy from the ride, two boys and two girls, ticket vendor. This is releasing May 15th for VIP, and June 1st for everyone for $150 This came from a Lego employee I know...manager level, but I have seen similar posted out on other sites... -
Given the timeline I am thinking Trevi in June, July at the latest...at least I hope. I would think they would release 4 sets a year in this line minimum.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Discussion Should LEGO make a Military Theme?
Herky replied to KisKatona's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Dr Cogg, the argument is that none of those is a specific military, while the bent of the thread is actual military...so would TLG ever make a B2 or a Uboat...sure they make items that are fictional military but not actual...hence all the arguing. Some would like actual military, some are very opposed, and folks keep going back and forth on it, Rick asked for that stuff to stop but it didn't. I get both sides, but the point is really moot, TLG is not going to make actual military. Folks should just MOC their own if that is desired. One could argue either side ad infiniti depending on their point of view. -
Discussion Should LEGO make a Military Theme?
Herky replied to KisKatona's topic in Special LEGO Themes
LOL, nice try Rick, it just won't stop -
For me, to find out LEGOLAND is not actually owned by Lego, that is what I found most disappointing after visiting, that and you couldn't get points on your VIP card when buying at the stores there
