  1. checked Lego FB, the last update was Oct 4 announcing the UCS Slave Ship, nothing new today yet...have it set to notify me so if I get that, will update.
  2. I have that page bookmarked in FB, I know the recent Bionicle review, it wasn't until late afternoon US time that the announcement was made...hoping it is the modular myself, the rumors and endless waiting is getting tiring...course we get that, then come January we all buy it and then another year of waiting, vicious cycle
  3. sorry if my discussion on the Ideas modular offended, I too thought this was the place to chat on all modular buildings real or imagined...Figured it would be something to do at least while we wait for official word on the next set, technically all the leaks point to a Detective Agency for sure, but TLG hasn't confirmed yet so if we cut off all discussion on anything that is not official, we would have to stop talking about that as well...however, I respect your opinion to want to talk about only the modular line that is official.
  4. I supported the museum and any modular that makes sense in the line...I also supported the Ghostbusters firehouse and hope that if this was made it would fit with the modular line cause while the HH and Simpsons house, both of which I purchased are great, they both need MODing to fit in and while I can see how Simpsons shouldn't, I have HH down at the end as that spooky house down the lane where you don't want to accidentally have the ball go into the yard. There are currently 223 ideas tagged as modular, although there are so many that I wouldn't consider true modular, maybe 20-30 true ones...I have made it a rule not to support LDD, mostly cause I want to see a finished product and feel that if you are going to do it, do it right and build it too. No offense meant to anyone on that point, just my own personal rule. The Wedding Studio is interesting, I also like the Doctor Strange house, the Library and many more... At 7665 supporters with over 200 days left, I feel the Natural History Museum does have a good shot at making it.
  5. the best definition of a Luddite is someone who is opposed to expansive technology, in other words if you have an item and it works fine, then just use it, no need to go out and get the latest greatest...so if OTW has a cell phone that is a flip phone, he will not be getting a smart phone; essentially he will upgrade only when he is forced to. I use photobucket for pics based on another hobby I have, but I have noticed that photobucket doesn't work here, I think most folks use flcker, seems there are so many out there, too bad we can't just use the copy and paste function from our pictures folders vs using an external site to host pics in the cloud. His mega GE is pretty cool I will say, he shared a pic with me and he has put a ton of work into it, it is basically a full size city block dept store like the old days...it's pretty sweet IMO. Don't forget 2x points start Wed so will be finally getting the PR here in Oct myself, looking forward to finally adding it to my block of buildings.
  6. sweet news, thanks, will be heading to the store this weekend then I guess or maybe wait til Oct since it is 2X points but just glad to hear they are now around
  7. Sweet, one of my friends in Cali, her niece works at the INO HQ so I got a shipment of INO shirts (10 of them) for $25, is there a cool 50's car in your MOC like the shirts? Really excited to see it now. Post when you can, thanks!
  8. the early McDonald's architecture was pretty cool looking, California has the In N Out burger joints that all seem different in architecture as well, LegoMan what did you go with? Burger joint? Chicken joint? If you live in KC, did you go BBQ? looking forward to seeing your MOC
  9. Good to know about TRU, hadn't been there in a long while, thanks for that info. NYC does have high taxes, but oddly enough, here in St Louis, we are not far from the same exact tax rate in the city. This all leads me to ask what it is like in Europe now...have only been to Ireland and that was way back in the early 2000's prior to the euro and all that, is there a specific tax structure there by country, state/province and city? Australia? I know in my trip to Taiwan in 2009, it was pretty much a straight up transaction and even in restaurants you didn't tip unless it was fancy, but with the great street food there, we did that mostly.
  10. that's a great idea, reading the Cormoran Strike novels right now and while those are set in modern times, the detective office is above a night club and his apartment is on the 3rd floor of the building, the lift is broken but the stairs go up to each floor, this could get really cool with something like that
  11. Just to answer one question that I didn't see in my skimming, yes ToysRUs does mark all of their sets at least 20% more than anywhere else. This practice really sucks in October when they do the Bricktober stuff, but for the most part I have stopped going to TRU for anything but polybags as they seem to get the new ones and Walmart never has any although I did just see some new ones at Target. Standard Price on all the GOTG here is $19.99 plus tax for the cheapest set 76019 Starblaster Showdown, $39.99 plus tax for the Knowhere Escape set 76020 and $74.99 plus tax for the Milano spaceship set 76021 Pretty much everything is taxed here in the US...while there are states that have no state sales tax and some places allow you to get away with no federal taxes on some things, you still end up paying federal taxes on things like gasoline and such. For Delaware they pay a state income tax, so for folks who just go through and buy things it is a good deal, but if they get gas, they have to pay that federal tax. There are also property taxes too...it's a fun system. You have federal tax and then state taxes, which may be at 0% on goods, but the state income tax is X%...where I live we pay the federal tax on goods and services, the added state tax on goods and services and then if you are in a large city, you have a city tax. That is why Rockefeller Center is so high, you are paying all 3, NYC has a city sales tax I believe as well. In California, same thing...Los Angeles pays base federal, base state and base city tax on purchases so this all adds up to 10% of the price. We also pay income tax to the federal and state govts at the end of the year and also on personal property such as cars, boats, things like that...so when you add it up in total, the US pays around 45% taxes of our total income every year (there are a lot of other taxes that come into play for other things too like capital gains on shares of equity sold and all kinds of financial instruments as well, plus if you have a certain instrument and sell early you get penalized and taxed) This is why our government has so much money to send aid around the world and give fighter planes to Egypt and all that...the American people pay for it and so do tourists when they buy the goods and services. Fun eh?
  12. did not know there is a bar in the Horizon Express, and sure there are rum bottles and the like on the Pirates Caribbean theme, but if the are doing a true pub like bar, I just don't see it. I wouldn't mind if they do, but would like to see that as it's own modular.
  13. holy moly, not the I like this I don't like that AFOL anonymous facebook like posts again...let's talk about the next modular or rumors thereof or if you want to talk about the other modular buildings, do a bit more than I like them. No offense meant to anyone, but let's act like the A in AFOL, I have seen such crazy discussions and been sucked into them...oh I get no respect or oh my feelings are hurt, sorry but that is a cop out when you are posting anonymously. This is an internet message board about toys after all. That said, was very interesting to see the info about this not being not retro style and a bar? I truly cannot see TLG putting out a set with a bar in it, even though these sets are higher end on the price point, the toy is for kids in the end, but I know there are very different laws in Europe vs the US based on alcohol and what age people can drink. I just can't see TLG putting in a bar though, if they do, why do it in a detective set, wait and do the traditional pub and do it up right? As for the retro style or lack thereof, when Cinema came out, it was very different than the rest, wondering if they aren't going to do something similar in looks and it kind of makes no sense for those of us who actually do connect all the buildings, but to those who do not...well hmmm. I too was thinking either 1950's or so and maybe old Hollywood movie style or even further and go Holmes Baker Street. I am also wondering price point. Will TLG go with the higher price like the Restaurant? I have not gotten one yet, waiting on double points, but from the loads of discussion, the money is in the details, not the building itself as the structure is smaller than the rest. I would like to see the $150 price point again with a full size building but enough details to satisfy everyone...maybe not realistic but I think it can be done by any of the designers. Hope you all have a very nice day.
  14. so I was in the Dark Age when Bionicle was out, they remind me of Lego micronauts in some respect...I am not against them by any means, but not sure what the appeal is, I have lived through micronauts, transformers and many more robot type action figures, what, other than they are Lego, would draw me to this line? Feel free to persuade me on how I should spend my money.
  15. could be, I checked their facebook page this morning...8:45 am US central time and nothing posted at all, I think they are 7 or 8 hours ahead so it is almost 5 pm Billund time and nothing out there? Hmm...
  16. and yet, growing up in the US, my grandfather used to call his dresser/chest of drawers a bureau...maybe it will be a giant chest of drawers with little Lego detectives stored away I jest of course, but I think we have a bit of time to go before the official announcement, still, you also have news bureaus at newspapers so the meaning of the word is semantic into the context you are discussing, I believe from the word, they are just meaning an organization, which would be apropos in any country...which means more than one detective at least.
  17. all I know is that by the pics and by rollermonkey's stud size descriptions, this is NOT what I was expecting out of Lego for a line that is several years old and could be done better; seems this line is on life support for creativity which is sad, the 2 new ones seem way inadequate to what this line could put out
  18. I would also buy the museum, really liked that one, also really like Talos building and have supported it. Constantly amazed at everyone's MOC and MOD creativity. If only we could get TLG to come to this thread and interact with us a bit...
  19. for those of us who may not be so smart, how do you find the file name? I clicked on pic and did properties, nothing came up to suggest Bionicle, but I would guess you are correct if you saw it, just wondered how to find it myself, thanks
  20. looks like the pics are down now, link not working, went back to check something, oh well, got to see something at least
  21. well you could, true, that is a little more than I want to do though, wish they would just put out info so we could have it and move forward to production and ultimately to buying and building
  22. agree Rollermonkey but they could do it as a tribute piece with proceeds going to the 9/11 memorial charity stuff, very nice project, I would buy one, I like it being more detailed than the normal smaller size architecture sets as well
  23. I liked the balloon even though I am not sure it is that big, good catch on no 41096, I searched around and found nothing on that set #, hard to tell sizes and piece count, but don't take that as a complaint, nice to see pics of anything at this point.
  24. The words on the Chinese tile above say Ninja and then Dragon God, interesting. I would love for the price point to go back down to $150...but I did see someone called Detective Agency back in July of this year for the 2015 modular, that was some interesting speculation. I did not figure they would do Sherlock Holmes, his era from about the late 1880's to around 1910 wasn't going to work...but strange to see a rumored Oriental type building to add to the Cinema in this line. Hoping the NYCC brings us pictures.
  25. Very nice, I think Indy was a franchise that could have held many more stories and your creation brings one of those to life. A few questions just to appreciate this more...how many hours did you spend on this? What made you think of the story? How many different sets did you use in this build, or did you just buy the pieces? Great job and thanks for sharing!
