Buckingham Palace will be cool, but I agree, how big will they go? I keep hearing on other threads that they will do the Tower and Big Ben in a Creator big size next year, similar to the big Sydney Opera House US Landmark - could be the Arch, could be lots of things, either way I like hearing that we are now getting 6 sets with the 4 skyline ones and now these 2

nice, the haunted mini sounds very appealing -
I know...to me, this line is severely under utilized, could be 10 sets a year covering a lot of different builds

A few or maybe a lot of pages back, someone brought up the idea of a mini modular set #2, not sure if that was a rumor or a wish...anyone know? -
I have always been a fan of stadium architecture as well, just so many great ones around the world. If they started this though, I have to go with my favorite and I am biased for sure, but start right in Kansas City with Arrowhead and Kauffman right next to each other. These could be done on a micro scale easy enough. Just google Harry S Truman sports complex to see pictures. Just wish they had that rolling roof that was originally planned. I would have to throw Wembley in as my second choice, never been there but it is well known, many great ones out there.

I so agree with that, considering in the middle ages in Europe, the major architecture was either churches or castles, there is so much rich history there with the great architecture that still stands today. We also have so many cool buildings around the world that could be done. I do wonder why TLG won't do the Hagia Sophia, sure it was originally built as a Christian church, but it is now a museum. I am not sure if we have an ambassador for Architecture, but would love to have a Q&A with someone at TLG about this line to see their thought process and how we might be able to influence/suggest sets to be made.

since I live here in St Louis, would love that, but I think it would need to be at least mid size scale of around 400 pieces to do it justice...I thought about Chichen Itza or the Great Pyramids too since they are doing these micro scale landscapes...could easily to the 3 pyramids of Giza (not likely a fun build though, 3 triangles essentially) and Chichen Itza is similar, has some outer "buildings" Macchu Pichu would be hard to do too, but it definitely an architectural wonder, Stonehenge... I am still waiting on Taipei 101, if they do the Burj, certainly they can do the 101

I like that idea ParmBrick...also thanks for the Brick City Depot info, sort of like a modular 3 in 1 type...I would buy more than one set if I had the option of an alternative build. -
Recommend the Pet Shop if you want to get all of them since it is the oldest, otherwise, go with PC or the PR
-
I look at this way, it's 4 sets for 2016 for a line that is sparse in sets at best. They are smaller, sure, but there seems to be a dearth of ideas for the line, not sure why, but if this is something they can give us, then I am all for it.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Here is the thing though, we aren't getting the same 32 x 32 buildings...the baseplates are the same, but the buildings are getting smaller and smaller, soon I will need 10 year old hands to actually get in there. Give me the bigger bricks any day, I don't need 1x2's where a 1x4 will suffice. Maybe I am the only one to get it. I like cool interior too but am not really playing with my sets, they are more display pieces. I do agree though, would love the brownstone on the half size, but a 3 story size, not the 1 story. I recall the brownstone in Home Alone 2, that row of houses would be very cool. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Got the Lego catalog today, for those who did or didn't, the modular buildings are on pages 8 & 9 (except new Brick Bank)Telling stories here from left to right, it shows the PC, the PS, DO and PR PC is 2194 pieces, measures 15" high due to the point on front, the top of the building is actually only 9.5" high, 10" wide and 10" deep; price $150 PS is 2032 pieces, 11" high (more like 10.5 due to railing), 10" wide and about 10" deep; price $150 DO is 2262 pieces, 10" high, 9" wide, 9" deep, price $160 10" high for the Barber shop, the pool hall side has to be 2" shorter PR is 2469 pieces, 11" high (fireplace part, likely 9.5" for building height), 9" wide, 9" deep, price is $160 Bank is 2380 pieces, 10" high, 10" deep, 10" wide, price is $170 So my conclusion is that the buildings are getting smaller and there is a higher piece count for the extras like cookies and money laundering. This is what causes me to feel that the modular buildings are getting smaller and smaller. The overall height of the buildings is down, the width and depth are down. This is why you can't get your hands in there to build. There are a lot of cool extras now but I would trade that back for a bigger building and room and just some nice interiors myself. You want to go 2300 pieces with a 10.5 x 10.5 x 10.5 and keep the price at say $155 then I feel this is a good thing. We are getting smaller and more bricks yes, but this makes me pause to wonder if I really want the bank or not. It is a nice building...didn't need the laundry. I feel this trend will continue though, next year, 2500 pieces, $220 building will be a small 8x8x8... -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

We are cool, I like your thoughts and really everyone else's as well. I am in the rare camp though in that my first modular and my favorite still is Fire Brigade. I like Green Grocer a lot, the GE is good, and I get you can't get a super detailed outside and inside without going too high in piece count and price. But I am no prude, I just bought the employee Birds set and can't wait to get that,(good price too) I have sets going back to my childhood in the late 70's and while I am not a Lego apologist, I am a big fan, even have a 2x3 Lego flag that I bought. I want that good size with good details and while I don't care as much about the interior (mostly cause I don't "play" with my sets) I am happy to pay what I perceive is a good price for a good size set. The reason why the sets are cheaper in Europe now vs US is the conversion rates are much closer than they used to be, used to be $1.50 or even $1.75 = 1 Euro, now it is something like $1.10 to $1.15. Oddly enough the pound is still pretty strong. For those who love these last 3 sets, everything is awesome yes, for those who don't, well we still buy them, but the more this goes on, the more I am thinking about just sticking with my old ones and trying to get Corner Café and Market Street instead of the new ones. Here is my thoughts on your questions: 1. They do and they don't, the PR does most of all and if the bank didn't have the laundry I would say yes, but the DO seems out of place on the block to me (again my opinion) 2. Almost the same answer, PR yes, DO not sure, Bank yes but not with the laundry 3. Yes, all these sets will go up in value, not likely as much as CC, GG and MS but those 3 were lower production runs, while the other modular are now pricier, they are still to be found in great numbers than the first 3. 4. If you have the GG, complete with box and instructions, you are likely at $800 minimum, the rest I would just check ebay for sold prices and brickset...this will give you a good value, but just take your initial cost and add 30% will give you a minimum ballpark figure for now. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Herky replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Who's angry? I was just critiquing it like we all do, this is a discussion thread so I discussed my thoughts, just like everyone who likes it posts that they like it, the difference is I put out my points as to why, not just some random I like it or I don't like it post. Santaends is right, but I don't want to buy two sets to make a proper build that should have been done in the first place. I have lots of sets, around 500...some pretty rare. Not angry, just baffled as to what I perceive as the 3rd poor showing out of Jamie in a row. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

so the new modular, what to say other than why? First the size, too small, they put it next to the last 2 modular releases to disguise its size, it is short and needs another floor in my opinion, let me see it next to the Fire Brigade or the Pet Shop even. Piece count, 2380 is good, but again like last time, I am guessing the count is made up of smaller pieces to drive that count up and then they raise the price another $10 for a set that used to cost $150 but now is $170? They are plastic so it's base material is petroleum which is selling at an all time low. Jamie's story...pfft...get it together Jamie, you stink at this, a Laundromat next to a bank? Couldn't he just have made a bigger, cooler bank and really do justice to it without the laundry and the story? All that said, this is way better than DO to me, just getting less for more $ these days as Kristiansen adds to his $10.3 billion net worth...ugh, why do I keep making this guy richer? -

the set unveiled was the Ideas Tardis, but no real unveiling of what it looks like, guess we will have to continue to wait and hope -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

My apologies, I thought it was on FB, but instead it is on this forum and some others, see the Licensed forum for the info, but all signs pointed to January, and they are thinking it will debut at the NY Fair. It is my understanding that the person who leaked it has some inside knowledge. As for the bank, I believe this is just a rumor still, but a lot of folks feel it is coming, the corner part fits the pattern. For Big Ben, that was a guess based on the clue, but it does match up. The fun part is that if folks really do know, I wish they would just say, yes we know it to be true and that is what it is. -

Not sure how this went so awry...let's just say there is a new modular, new landmark and the Ghostbusters HQ until we find out exactly what the modular and landmark are going to be. I am good with a bank and who knows about Big Ben/Elizabeth Tower (which I guess is the new name of the tower to honor Elizabeth's reign). I am guessing if they do this tower, they are not going to include the palace of Westminster which runs to the side of it. I also thought the GBHQ date was Jan 1 based on the published info about it on facebook. This would push the modular and landmark to later in the year. Jan 1 GBHQ April 1 (est) Modular July 1 or Aug 1 Landmark This is my timeline guess. -

Go ahead and spoil it, not sure anyone cares if you do, but if it is Big Ben, that is cool, and yes I know Ben is just the clock, mind not going well to remember the name of the building. Too early here right now for brain to work. so here is what I am gathering: Jan 1 Ghostbusters HQ April 1 New Modular (Rumors on what it is still) New creator build...going to guess July or August 1 Anything else? -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Herky replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I think it sort of depends on the piece as well...10 cents a piece for a 1x2 is excessive if you have tons of those which could be a 1x4 instead. I have seen Lego start doing this lately, not because there aren't 1x4's but this will drive up the piece count and project value in high piece sets. I am thinking it was a mandate amongst the set creators even. Just look at the modular line, our later sets use about the same piece count as early sets, but really look at the pieces. I am ok with 10 cents a piece if my value is there, well I guess it is my own perceived value cause others might disagree, but I have to wonder about the practice of just taking a 1x6 and putting 2 1x3's in there just to drive up that count. If you really want to look at value, check out the BBT set from Ideas...less than 500 pieces for $60, justified by folks by saying well those are special pieces, etc. And the licensing...all true, but seems pricey to me. I do feel the modular are better value than other sets in the end, no license fees, etc...but they seem to be mailing it in a bit on the piece count. -

wow, that pic showing the MOC is great, but since it is not official, it's hard to know but I think it likely will be, the price tag is what I am having a hard time with, just a lot of money. This looks like it would be worth it though. That's huge news. I like that they are not considering this the official modular for the year as well...so we can potentially get that 2 a year I have always wished for...going to be an expensive year though. -

I agree with you completely, AFOLguy, I have not usually purchased on the release date due to that, after spending on Christmas, I am usually tapped out so I hold off til double points to get it. I have also found it is far cheaper to order it from lego.com than pick it up in the store...the tax is 50% less and shipping is free. I actually just picked up the PR this year during double points. -
