I have been to 36 states and downtown of many major cities, never ever seen a blue building like that anywhere, I have not been to the Northeast other than Boston, but I know there isn't anything like that in Beantown in the color blue. You won't find it in Chicago, not in Des Moines, not in Denver, not in Los Angeles or San Fran, well it might be in San Fran off of Lombard for a house but not a business, not in Dallas nor Houston, maybe some out of the way place in New Orleans but been there a few times and never saw it, not in Louisville, not in Minneapolis, not in Seattle, not in Vancouver unless being used as a tv show set, not in Phoenix or Albuquerque or Santa Fe, not in Birmingham, not in Charlotte, maybe in Charleston as I was only in part of that, so I challenge you to find one and post that is in a big city. Now that said, I hope you find one, not saying I am totally right, I haven't been to every street in every city or town in the US but what I have been, I haven't seen it. And to repeat myself since I guess you all didn't read it the first time: Oh it really doesn't matter I guess in the end, we are all going to buy it. I will just buy it and enjoy it for what I want and ignore the rest as mentioned. In the grand scheme of life, it's not huge, just something to converse about in this discussion. I will just hope the Museum gets built as is and other modular buildings in the next of the series goes back to the style I like.

Lomis, can you post a pic of that with the barber shop in the same color as the bricks in the detective side? Curacao also has a lot of colorful buildings in a row like that, of course, it was a Dutch island (might still be) and several Caribbean homes are very colorful true as is even Key West and Miami. But this is the 1930's building to me, they would not have used that blue and no detective would have his agency next to a blue building. Oh it really doesn't matter I guess in the end, we are all going to buy it. I will just buy it and enjoy it for what I want and ignore the rest as mentioned. In the grand scheme of life, it's not huge, just something to converse about in this discussion. I see a MOD to add the Delta House symbols to the front...and a fat frat boy drinking a fifth of JD out by a car owned by another fat frat guys brother...can it have a band in the basement playing shamalama ding dong? -

Actually OTW doesn't hate them, he hates the dumbing down of them to cater to kids when it is an adult product supposedly. That is valid for him to have that opinion, one that is shared by a lot of folks from what I read. I am pretty much in that camp as I don't want/need a story to go along with my toys. For those that want it, good for them. There is a story and cookies and euphemism to liquor and all that. The line is then geared toward kids who do not get that reference and many kids will want it and that is likely good for TLG who is trying to move the kids who started collecting 5 years ago along the line toward higher dollar purchases. It's all about the dollar in the end. OTW has likely outspent all of us in Lego purchases this last year to be honest. Read his info. But now back to the 2016 offering...lamp post you say...hmmm...I have an awful lot of lamp posts on my block, maybe we get an electric plant to power those lamps for next year. Ha, can you imagine a Lego electric plant? -
maybe so, but don't lump us all in with Lord Business, I don't have signs hanging in my basement to don't touch or keep out...I just feel I can build and appreciate without some story to guide me along. I also don't need Christmas carols to hang ornaments on the tree I am not against the folks who like the story, but I guess we need to figure out if the modular series is an AFOL series or a kids series; if they want to move it to a kids line then a story is totally appropriate, if they want adults then it is not necessary, if they want a mix then fine put it in, but then we have this mixed bag of us that just want to add to our block and those who want the "experience" and maybe they need to put in a cd that you can play while building that is a spoken word story and you can choose to play it or not.

Any word on the 2016 modular yet? -
I think I like the MOC better, the issue I have is really the blue barber shop and the Pool sign. If they would just have made the brick all the way around I could live with the pool sign. The blue on this just makes it look so kiddie like. I couldn't bring myself to watch the video after reading about it and the "story". Really, I am an adult, this is an adult priced toy and I don't need a silly story to appreciate a toy made for me. Oh well...guess it is just me. To each their own. I do like the Slave I now after seeing it and how big it is.

I think if say you got the Detective Office and then a Friends set, say the bike, you would be eligible to get both flower cart and the golf set. They have let me do that before, in any case, those two are pretty nice, I even like the little SW one. Nice month for freebies plus if you got the Calendar, you can redeem your coupon for a free minifigure. January is going to be way more fun than this fall has been.

Wholeheartedly agree, I know Off the Wall has also expressed similar and others too. I guess it is up to TLG to decide if they want a true AFOL type experience or a more child like one with this line. I would say DO looks to be the most child like offering in the line so far, and I know everyone extolls the great virtues of this Jamie guy and people tend to poo poo the Astrid designer, but the bottom line is that the sales of the set will likely drive the direction no matter who the designer is. I personally don't care who designs it and am not going to go looking for person X's designs over someone else like it seems that some do. I just want a good, fun product that will give me pleasure to build, I don't need a story or a mystery to go along with it. Others may feel this adds to it though and want that type of thing. We all may end up in 2 camps I guess. I would say TLG is now in a position as the big kid on the block that can do no wrong at this point, #1 toy company and all...so this also means they can go nowhere but down off that position. Time will tell -

I was a big fan of the show Wings back in the day so that would be great to me, including a lunch counter for Helen and a small hanger for Lowell...Sandpiper Air -
I really like this set although I must confess that I am glad someone posted that the middle one is a robin...I figured that was what it was, but we have some finches around that look similar. Too bad there wasn't a woodpecker in the group, I like the hummingbird the best, will be a pickup for sure as the concept is unique and I have all the Ideas with the exception of Shinkai so this will fit right in with my other ones I have displayed. May have to get one for my Mom who loves birds as well. I am glad they stuck to the original concept though and went back to 3 vs 1. 580 pieces for $45 is a decent price for this one, but agree with others, get this early or you may not get it at all.

Please disclose info on January giveaway, I do have the calendar so plan on using that to get the minifigure but do not think that is what you meant. Faefrost - um, well, no but I do have an old little metal spider-man that hangs out in the bell tower of the town hall A corner bookstore would be cool too, but would you do individual books or just big block of book looking pieces that simulates books...either works, but no stickers Birds - that would be cool...I am almost seeing the Kingdoms Joust set reused in a big arena style Medieval Times type restaurant, with what I envision, likely not a modular, but I would be good with those types of buildings too. Great ideas. We actually went to a Pirate Themed one of those in Los Angeles, was a great show and even the dinner was pretty good. -

oh it's true, even for us just build it and leave it alone type of folks, cause TLG comes out with those little sets that just look cool on the block, like a balloon vendor or a hot dog cart or something like that, so you have to get those to add to the nuance of a busy, fun block...even if you do it once and leave it alone -

thanks all for confirming I am somewhat normal in my display only ways, shows I am not totally insane, about Lego anyway, hahaha, I wish I had more table space and could display more stuff as for next year Modular, I would like a museum, a brownstone residence building, a hospital, a hardware store or some kind of sports themed building, let the speculation begin! -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I think that there are a lot of good posts here, but I wanted to ask, cause I have all modular buildings but Market Street, Café Corner and just haven't picked up the restaurant yet...but I am one of those folks who really loves the build but then I basically just have it sit there on display and get dusty. Do you all build it and then move things around each week for fun or I hate to use this word but do you "play" with them? Mine are in the basement, so when I go down to do laundry, I like to just check them out and look at them, and if I get a set like the hot dog cart I will add it to the block, but for the most part they just sit there. Just wondered since it seems I might be an AFOL but more on the build it and leave it alone side of things, I am not a good MOD or MOC type of person, so maybe that is why. -

Lego monks? sweet Bjorn, do you have wife or kids? If not, no problem, if you do, then you would understand the whole budget thing. Glad you have a lot of money and so does TLG, they cherish your money (kroners I think?) Enjoy your plastic toys. -

bjorn, asking about price since we have to budget our Lego purchases, when you have kids that are into the Friends line, the Minecraft line, some Star Wars, some Hobbit, etc, you have to make sure you can budget for a modular for yourself, plus I get the Architecture line and other sets that catch my eye. There is only so much expendable income so knowing price means I can get it either January or have to wait til later in the year. As you said, will get it, but knowing price helps gauge the when we will get it timeline. -
I am not sure Mycroft would fit, guy weighed 400 lbs...but yes the Persian slipper might be a good add to hold Holmes tobacco, also need some bullet holes but I really like this MOC, great little room and would be a welcome addition to my Holmes collection of 200 books and other SH items...Mrs Hudson is who I would put in it and maybe Toby

thanks for the back hi res, very interesting to see, looks like the door in the alley is right there on the left...I think there is no car cause it would be too modern for the modular theme, I was never sure why the PC had a car, but just use that one? Plus if you do a car, the piece count goes up quite a bit and then you are priced out of range maybe -

the more I look at it, it's the colors that are just driving me a bit nuts...wish they would have just continued the brick from the detective side all the way through, it is busy and seems cluttered, but in a big city downtown, that's what you get...still wondering if it will hit the $150 or $160 price point -

to me, this trumps PR in a huge way, it's got great buildings and still many details, will still never understand the love for PR, but in any case, to each their own. 2262 pieces, so one thing no one has talked about is price point. This sits in the middle between PC and PR, I would almost expect a $155 price point on it, but I think we will see $160 again similar to PR. Guess we will find out next Friday for sure. If it came apart like PS that would be the best, I would likely do my first MOD and separate to have a large Detective/Pool sides and a large Barber side, guess I could still do that, will just have to see. -

Well sure you can say this now, but before some guy created it there were not modular buildings and no line for it. So this was the first one and how many times have we seen the first one of anything be the best? It was designed by an AFOL, not Lego designers, in fact, this opened up a whole new ability for there to be a job designing buildings. All the MOC's MOD's, etc came out of the MS. I do not own it, but without it, we wouldn't even have this thread, so you can say bad egg, but it was the foundation of what we have now. Whitesnake, we are all expecting the announcement next Friday based on the Lego store calendar BirdofPrey, none of my modular sets ever came wrapped like that Fae - I get what you are saying, and sure it makes sense, but come on, don't kill our hopes :-) Also you say they have decades worth of data on modular sets...can you elaborate on that? How did they get decades worth when MS was the first one and it was released in the 2000's. -

well said Sven, we just don't know, I got my late holiday catalog today and the modular shown were PR, PS, PC and that was it. Pages 4 & 5...all the P's I guess still available. Some other sets noticeably absent in other lines as well. Looks like GE and TH are done, which has been discussed. This leaves room for the new one. -
Talos, last year the PAB was just that green box which could be filled with PAB pieces...it was open til end of March and could be used at any store. You didn't have to use it right away. Enjoy the experience!

the museum reached 10K supporters today on Lego ideas...will be interesting to see where that goes...if we have 2 buildings, a bar lower with the agency on top and the barber shop next door, can you really call the modular a detective agency then? Business offices or something like that makes more sense than detective agency when that is only on 1 of potentially 6 floors. Doesn't really matter, I am going into details really, I am up for anything at this point.
