Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Herky replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I am guessing, and have no proof, but I am going to say sales are a bit slow on a January 1 release date since it was so close to the Christmas holiday and the presents given then...of course, a lot of adults may hold some money back for the release, but no proof. I know the DO was talked up a lot here and then we saw it and it seemed about 50% decided to wait on it due to disappointment and the other 50% went out and got it right away. I am with the majority in that I want a great exterior, interior and enough space to fit my adult hand in it when building the interior. I have preferences like everyone and we have discussed. I would like to see a 2 release per year in this realm, maybe go the half building for one and do a series of row houses. Can be done, just a matter if TLG will do it. -
I think it is great, wonder if TLG would see this and start thinking of this type of building for a 2nd modular release each year. Not sure how much it cost, but I know I would pick this up.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

There are still sets available at my TRU's, but at $20 each, that just seems too steep to me. They had them built at one time, not bad. I think they will gear up for Christmas sales so we will get a lot of info late Sept to October to build excitement, whether or not that includes modular info I am not sure. It always struck me as odd that they waited on the modular and didn't release it for that Christmas boost but I am ok if they wait til March to release. I have my tax return money by then. -

The lattices at least make sense, you have the "look" of windows but this is more likely a darker room which would be right for a movie theater...the aesthetics of the building looking cool took precedent over common sense in this one I guess I am thinking we get into September to October and news will pick up, always interesting to see the thoughts though, lot of great ideas for modular here and constantly amazed at what people MOC up -
This has to be the funniest thread I have read on EB...is it a rehash, sure, but it almost sounds like some live and die to be able to get that new WV set. This is a toy folks, your lives will go on. As a huge fan of the Architecture series, this isn't any worse than that, trust me. Sure you get a couple new sets a year, but even those are half finished in total...the Louvre coming out has the pyramid and a bit of the building, not even the full thing. Would I have been more pleased with something else in the WV line, sure, but I am just dumbfounded that people are really that mad over a toy. Just use your funds to get something else. I am sure there is going to be stuff coming out that people will want to buy.

the train, if it is 10173, wasn't really part of the Winter Village line, I saw someone post that TLG was planning on doing away with the line but decided to retro that set, so while that is a rumor, guess a rehashed set is better than nothing...and folks say this thread whines about the modular release, holy moly that is a lot of whine over there. I think that any of the first 3 rerelease for Modular would be met with enthusiasm by many. The one thing that seems to be consistent is that most folks did not get those sets. Even those that do have them would likely pick up the new ones. What seems to be the hardest is to know where TLG's mindset is on their lines. Modular, why not 2 a year? There just isn't a press release you can go to in order to know their strategy going forward and even though I know our local store manager decently well, she is kept in the dark for the most part as well. -

And if they did re-release MS, GG and CC, they do not necessarily have to be in the same colors, just work with what they have, make the tweaks, make it nice. I would be for that, improve...remember, Lego doesn't make a dime on the collector/reseller/ebay/bricklink markets, they don't care that your old set from ages ago is worth $1000, they care what they sell now to add to their bottom line. I still would like the museum, it wasn't a corner, which I would like too, but that would be great. Let the rumpus speculation begin. -

So if the arcade is definitely off the table, then what is the next big speculation? I missed the initial Toy Shop so will get this one, for those to who have it, likely disappointing news. But if they rehash the toy shop, why not redo Market Street? or Café Corner? -

I am not sure I would buy the book, but I would definitely look through it at the bookstore. Amusement Hall is an interesting name versus Arcade. As a kid born in the 70's and really growing up in the 80's, I spent time in an arcade here and there...so the Flynn place just comes to mind. Amusement Hall is something else though, when I think of that, I honestly think either Old West saloon type with the stage, which probably is more of a saloon, so that isn't right or some sort of burlesque, again unlikely but that is what I think of in that case. Interesting either way. I did forget about the computer in TH. Excellent point -

the Friends line also did a shopping mall, although it was nowhere near a modular, but the main thing for arcade that doesn't fit with me is the others are mostly 1920's, 1930's, 1940's era type buildings...even the Pool sign on the DO was more art deco and if they are going with that, then how does an arcade fit in? I wasn't alive back then, but one of the things that does lend is this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paddock_Arcade but again that is more of a shopping mall. I think the penny arcade games did come out in the 1930's...would have been things like the crane, grip strength, etc types I would really like it to be a corner though, no matter what it is -

If it is an arcade, I wonder, are we talking the 1980's stand up machines like Tron and Pac Man and so forth, is that the vision? or are they talking 1930's Coney Island with ski ball and ring toss and bottle throw and things like that? I know the mixer had the ring the bell game in it. At least I think it was that. Tron arcade would be great to me if they are going to do this. -
nice tease Steve...if only they would sell that in stores...ah well, just a few more months and we can lament that 2016 brought us a set or two only for the year. I personally think this is the best line in all of Lego, but it just gets no play...the list of possibilities is so long there isn't enough server space, guess it just doesn't sell well

Fae, you said: Current Lego Store Policy is they can shelf stock the new sets as they come in, rather than wait unless their is a license hard street date. So if a store receives their August release shipment on July 29 they can put it right out. My store manager about flipped when she found out the product was out there, the directive from U.S. HQ was NOT to stock shelves til Aug 1. I guess I missed it as well, but when did the conversation go from modulars being for adults to now other demographics? I had always thought modulars were for adults/teens 16 and over. The little golden book stories are not necessary. We had a Cinema where a story could have been easily told with the limo and the movies and all that, but I don't recall a story about that one. I think that is what threw a lot of us off, there had been no story until DO. Any of the modular buildings really could have had a story, but when the precedent is a cool exterior and interior (ok some of them are debatable on interior) and then DO shows up, looks like a kiddie house, a lame story to go with it, it seemed to break from tradition. I am of the opinion that there should be more than 1 designer, it should pass around, but keep to a central theme. So Jamie does one, then person A, then person B, etc...it is good to have diversity is what we have come to learn, so let's get diverse TLG. When you stick to 1 or 2 people, it gets stale, breath new life into it. I am choosing NOT to buy the DO, likely never will unless someone wants to give it to me half price, that is about what it is worth to me. (hey opinion there) I am hoping for a good building, decent piece count that doesn't delve into putting 1x2's in there when a 1x4 will suffice just to drive up piece count, and something that can add to the block. I think they really missed the boat on the Lego Ideas museum myself. I am an adult, if I pay for one of the modular buildings, I expect it to be quality. I didn't feel DO was that way, so I exercised my CHOICE to not purchase. So let's get back to speculation...and yes I realize the name of this thread is discussion as well, so it's good to discuss, and sometimes a bit off tangent is good (I don't think I could ever be an admin...wonder if they know they get made fun of on other sites?) but to me I just enjoy everyone's guesses on what is coming next and the merits of what we have. Each opinion counts whether I like it or not. -
I agree, you have two very much ready to sell MOC's, would buy both, super job on both.

the link does not work, all of those links are taken down, I am guessing they were a mistake, I could be wrong, but I think all we can do is just continue to speculate and enjoy the guessing game -
None of the links are working now so maybe it was all just a mistake...NYC we have enough NYC buildings...move along TLG, move along. So many good buildings to choose from it is sad we get only 2 or 3 offerings a year, just waiting on Sept 1 to get the Louvre. Waiting on another Sydney Opera House large size building as well.

Thanks for posting about Grogall, went and read that thread, some funny comments about EB and the admin STAY ON TOPIC posts. In any case, a gingerbread house would be cool if it was a sweet making factory as speculated...then again we could be reading too much into the sweet word...he could just be using it as "sweet" as in nice. I look forward to this set every year though and hope whatever is coming out is going to be a good one.

Boomerang, what town are you in? I know what kind of stores you mean, but for the most part, every store sells cheap Chinese made junk anymore, Hobby Lobby is 95% Chinese made, Wal Mart is getting better, Target too...any electronics store has almost 100% Chinese made...it's not like the old days. I am still in favor of a museum, bank, pharmacy even, although that might not work, but if we have a green grocer, would we need a deli? I just want a quality building that I can get my hand into to build and it is going to fit in with the rest of the street. -
Off The Wall turned it from a Haunted House into a very nice modular.

I want to know how all these folks keep getting the sets that are not supposed to go on sale until August 1 already...have seen many Scooby Doo and BBT sets in hand, but it is a cool idea to incorporate one like that into a modular -

A bank would be good in my book, there have been a few banks in different lego themes, Harry Potter, City, I think one other, but not a true modular bank with a vault and tellers. Recently returned from Orlando and went to the Universal Studios where the Potter Gringott's bank is, and I would love to see a corner bank in that vein. Obviously replace the goblins with people, but use the old teller lines, do the vault, have the managers office. Could use the 2nd floor for accounting, third floor I am not sure...sounds like they know the modular buildings for the next 5 years so unless someone wanted to spill the beans, we will just continue to speculate. Someone go slip Jaime a mickey and see if you can find out...(just kidding folks, I do not condone that at all) If Jaimie is truly the only designer of the modular line though, I would like to see what other folks can do, I don't know the names like some of the legoites here, but figure Jaimie can't be the only one who can do a good building. -
I see yet another for sale ready creation that TLG should be grabbing up and selling...great job and I like it, would definitely buy one at retail.

Agree with OTW, BirdofPrey and others, I just want a cool building, story doesn't matter, this is for me, an adult who likes to use the building as a stress reliever and create a nice piece. The Architecture line is the other line I collect and same thing, problem is Architecture has 3 sets a year and Modular 1 set...TLG is not getting much of my money these days. -

I have been curious about the fascination regarding the designers. To me, I am concerned that only 1 designer, no matter who it is, is having a monopoly on all the modular designs. Competition in designing brings about a better product in my opinion. As for a greenhouse story...hmm...the cookie thief moves to hide the stash in the greenhouse, but the cops from City find the person since he gets stuck in the back and the water ruins all the cookies. Sorry I know that is lame, but it is all I have on this long week of work. Honestly, I would like two modular buildings a year, I think you retire the older ones faster, but all in all Lego has disappointed me in 2015. The DO is the worst modular in the line IMO, I did not buy it. Is the concept there, yes, but it's almost too much and too small. I liked the ways folks MOD'd it up to make it better. Stick to one thing and give a good exterior and interior without driving up piece count (yes they do this folks, using 2 1x2's when a 1x4 will work is driving up piece count). It's the same old adage, put out a good product with good value and you will sell well.
